1 And the Spirit of God*GodHebrew: Elohim came upon Azariah the son of Oded. 2 And he went out to meet Asa, and said to him, Hear ye me, Asa, and all Judah and Benjamin: Jehovah is with you while ye are with him; and if ye seek him he will be found of you, but if ye forsake him he will forsake you. 3 Now for a long while Israel was without the true God*GodHebrew: Elohim and without a teaching priest, and without law; 4 but in their trouble they turned to Jehovah the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of Israel, and sought him, and he was found of them. 5 And in those times there was no peace to him that went out nor to him that came in, but great disturbances were amongst all the inhabitants of the countries. 6 And nation was broken against nation, and city against city; for God*GodHebrew: Elohim disturbed them with all manner of distress. 7 But as for you, be firm and let not your hands be weak; for there is a reward for your deeds.

8 And when Asa heard these words and the prophecy of Oded the prophet, he took courage, and put away the abominations out of all the land of Judah and Benjamin, and out of the cities that he had taken from mount Ephraim, and renewed the altar of Jehovah, that was before the porch of Jehovah. 9 And he assembled all Judah and Benjamin, and the strangers with them out of Ephraim and Manasseh, and out of Simeon; for they fell away to him out of Israel in abundance, when they saw that Jehovah his God*GodHebrew: Elohim was with him. 10 And they assembled themselves at Jerusalem in the third month of the fifteenth year of the reign of Asa. 11 And they sacrificed to Jehovah in that day, of the spoil that they had brought, seven hundred oxen and seven thousand sheep. 12 And they entered into a covenant to seek Jehovah the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of their fathers, with all their heart, and with all their soul, 13 and that whoever would not seek Jehovah the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of Israel should be put to death, whether small or great, whether man or woman. 14 And they swore to Jehovah with a loud voice, and with shouting, and with trumpets, and with cornets. 15 And all Judah rejoiced at the oath; for they took the oath with all their heart, and sought him with their whole desire; and he was found of them. And Jehovah gave them rest round about. 16 And also Maachah, the mother of Asa the king, he removed from being queen, because she had made an idol for the Asherah; and Asa cut down her idol, and stamped it, and burned it in the valley Kidron. 17 But the high places were not removed from Israel; only, Asa’s heart was perfect all his days. 18 And he brought into the house of God*GodHebrew: Elohim the things which his father had dedicated, and the things which he himself had dedicated, silver, and gold, and vessels. 19 And there was no war until the thirty-fifth year of the reign of Asa.

Israel a fost fără Dumnezeul cel adevărat, fără*Lev. 10:11. preot care să învețe pe oameni și fără lege. 4 Dar în mijlocul strâmtorării lor s-au întors*Deut. 4:29. la Domnul Dumnezeul lui Israel, L-au căutat și L-au găsit. 5 În vremurile*Jud. 5:6. acelea, nu era liniște pentru cei ce se duceau și veneau, căci erau mari tulburări printre toți locuitorii țării: 6 un*Mat. 24:7. popor se bătea împotriva altui popor, o cetate împotriva altei cetăți, pentru că Dumnezeu le tulbura cu tot felul de strâmtorări; 7 voi dar întăriți-vă și nu lăsați să vă slăbească mâinile, căci faptele voastre vor avea o răsplată."

8 După ce a auzit aceste cuvinte și prorocia lui Oded, prorocul, Asa s-a întărit și a îndepărtat urâciunile din toată țara lui Iuda și Beniamin și din cetățile pe*Cap. 13:19. care le luase în muntele lui Efraim și a înnoit altarul Domnului, care era înaintea pridvorului Domnului. 9 A strâns pe tot Iuda și Beniamin, și pe cei din Efraim, din Manase și din Simeon, care locuiau*Cap. 11:16. printre ei, căci un mare număr dintre oamenii lui Israel au trecut la el când au văzut că Domnul Dumnezeul lui era cu el. 10 S-au adunat la Ierusalim în luna a treia a anului al cincisprezecelea al domniei lui Asa. În ziua aceasta, 11 au*Cap. 14:15. jertfit Domnului, din prada*Cap. 14:13. pe care o aduseseră, șapte sute de boi și șapte mii de oi. 12 Au făcut*2 Împ. 23:3. Cap. 34:31.Neem. 10:29. legământ să caute pe Domnul Dumnezeul părinților lor din toată inima și din tot sufletul lor, 13 și oricine*Exod 22:20. nu căuta pe Domnul Dumnezeul lui Israel trebuia*Deut. 13:5,9,15. omorât, fie mic, fie mare, fie bărbat, fie femeie. 14 Au jurat credință Domnului cu glas tare, cu strigăte de bucurie și cu sunet de trâmbițe și de buciume; 15 tot Iuda s-a bucurat de jurământul acesta, căci juraseră din toată inima lor, căutaseră pe Domnul de bunăvoia*Vers. 2. lor și-L găsiseră. Și Domnul le-a dat odihnă de jur împrejur. 16 Împăratul Asa n-a lăsat nici chiar pe mama sa Maaca*1 Împ. 15:13. să mai fie împărăteasă, pentru că făcuse un idol Astarteei. Asa i-a dărâmat idolul, pe care l-a făcut praf și l-a ars lângă pârâul Chedron. 17 Dar înălțimile*Cap. 14:3,5.1 Împ. 15:14. tot n-au fost îndepărtate din Israel, măcar că inima lui Asa a fost în totul a Domnului în tot timpul vieții lui. 18 A pus în Casa lui Dumnezeu lucrurile închinate Domnului de tatăl său și de el însuși: argint, aur și vase. 19 N-a fost niciun război până la al treizeci și cincilea an al domniei lui Asa.
