1 And Solomon the son of David was strengthened in his kingdom, and Jehovah his God*GodHebrew: Elohim was with him and magnified him exceedingly. 2 And Solomon spoke to all Israel, to the captains of thousands and of hundreds, and to the judges, and to all the princes of all Israel, the chief fathers; 3 and Solomon, and all the congregation with him, went to the high place at Gibeon; for there was God’s*GodHebrew: Elohim tent of meeting which Moses the servant of Jehovah had made in the wilderness. 4 But the ark of God*GodHebrew: Elohim had David brought up from Kirjath-jearim to the place that David had prepared for it; for he had spread a tent for it at Jerusalem. 5 And the brazen altar that Bezaleel the son of Uri, the son of Hur, had made, was there before the tabernacle of Jehovah; and Solomon and the congregation sought unto it. 6 And Solomon offered there upon the brazen altar before Jehovah which was at the tent of meeting; and he offered up a thousand burnt-offerings upon it. 7 In that night God*GodHebrew: Elohim appeared to Solomon, and said to him, Ask what I shall give thee. 8 And Solomon said to God*GodHebrew: Elohim Thou hast shewn unto David my father great loving-kindness, and hast made me king in his stead. 9 Now, Jehovah Elohim, let thy word unto David my father be firm; for thou hast made me king over a people numerous as the dust of the earth. 10 Give me now wisdom and knowledge, that I may go out and come in before this people; for who can judge this thy great people? 11 And God*GodHebrew: Elohim said to Solomon, Because this was in thy heart, and thou hast not asked riches, wealth, or honour, nor the life of them that hate thee, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked for thyself wisdom and knowledge, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king: 12 wisdom and knowledge are granted unto thee; and I will give thee riches and wealth and honour, such as none of the kings have had that have been before thee, neither shall any after thee have the like.

13 Then Solomon came back from the high place at Gibeon to Jerusalem, from before the tent of meeting, and reigned over Israel. 14 And Solomon gathered chariots and horsemen; and he had a thousand four hundred chariots and twelve thousand horsemen; and he placed them in the chariot-cities, and with the king at Jerusalem. 15 And the king made silver and gold in Jerusalem as stones, and cedars made he as the sycamores that are in the lowland for abundance. 16 And the exportation of horses that Solomon had was from Egypt: a caravan of the king’s merchants fetched a drove of horses, at a price. 17 And they fetched up and brought forth out of Egypt a chariot for six hundred shekels of silver, and a horse for a hundred and fifty; and so they brought them by their means, for all the kings of the Hittites and for the kings of Syria.

1 Solomon*1 Împ. 2:46., fiul lui David, s-a întărit în domnie; Domnul*Gen. 39:2. Dumnezeul lui a fost cu el și l-a înălțat*1 Cron. 29:25. din ce în ce mai mult. 2 Solomon a poruncit întregului Israel, căpeteniilor*1 Cron. 27:1. peste mii și sute, judecătorilor, mai-marilor întregului Israel, căpeteniilor caselor părintești 3 și Solomon s-a dus cu toată adunarea la înălțimea de la Gabaon*1 Împ. 3:4.1 Cron. 16:39;21:29.. Acolo se afla cortul întâlnirii lui Dumnezeu, făcut în pustie de Moise, robul Domnului. 4 Dar chivotul*2 Sam. 6:2,17.1 Cron. 15:1. lui Dumnezeu fusese mutat de David din Chiriat-Iearim la locul pe care i-l pregătise, căci îi întinsese un cort la Ierusalim. 5 Tot acolo se afla, înaintea cortului Domnului, altarul de aramă*Exod 27:1,2;38:1,2., pe care-l făcuse Bețaleel*Exod 31:2., fiul lui Uri, fiul lui Hur. 6 Solomon și adunarea au căutat pe Domnul. Și acolo, pe altarul de aramă care era înaintea cortului întâlnirii, a adus*1 Împ. 3:4. Solomon Domnului o mie de arderi-de-tot. 7 În timpul nopții*1 Împ. 3:5,6., Dumnezeu S-a arătat lui Solomon și i-a zis: „Cere ce vrei să-ți dau!" 8 Solomon a răspuns lui Dumnezeu: „Tu ai arătat o mare bunăvoință tatălui meu David și m-ai*1 Cron. 28:5. pus să domnesc în locul lui. 9 Acum, Doamne Dumnezeule, împlinească-se făgăduința Ta făcută tatălui meu David, fiindcă m-ai*1 Împ. 3:7,8. pus să domnesc peste un popor mare la număr, ca pulberea pământului! 10 Dă-mi dar*1 Împ. 3:9. înțelepciune și pricepere, ca să știu cum să mă port*Num. 27:17.Deut. 31:2. în fruntea acestui popor! Căci cine ar putea să judece pe poporul Tău, pe poporul acesta atât de mare?" 11 Dumnezeu*1 Împ. 3:11-13. a zis lui Solomon: „Fiindcă dorința aceasta este în inima ta, fiindcă nu ceri nici bogății, nici averi, nici slavă, nici moartea vrăjmașilor tăi, nici chiar o viață lungă, ci ceri pentru tine înțelepciune și pricepere ca să judeci pe poporul Meu, peste care te-am pus să domnești, 12 înțelepciunea și priceperea îți sunt date. Îți voi da, pe deasupra, bogății, averi și slavă, cum n-a mai avut niciodată niciun împărat*1 Cron. 29:25. Cap. 9:22.Ecl. 2:9. înaintea ta și cum nici nu va mai avea după tine."

13 Solomon s-a întors la Ierusalim după ce a părăsit înălțimea de la Gabaon și cortul întâlnirii. Și a domnit peste Israel. 14 Solomon*1 Împ. 4:26;10:26. Cap. 9:25. a strâns care și călărime; avea o mie patru sute de care și douăsprezece mii de călăreți, pe care i-a așezat în cetățile unde ținea carele și la Ierusalim, lângă împărat. 15 Împăratul*1 Împ. 10:27. Cap. 9:27.Iov 22:24. a făcut argintul și aurul tot atât de obișnuite la Ierusalim ca pietrele, și cedrii tot atât de obișnuiți ca sicomorii*1:15 Smochini sălbatici. care cresc în câmpie. 16 Solomon*1 Împ. 10:28,29. Cap. 9:28. își aducea caii din Egipt; o ceată de negustori ai împăratului se duceau și-i luau în cete pe un preț hotărât; 17 se duceau și aduceau din Egipt un car cu șase sute de sicli de argint și un cal cu o sută cincizeci de sicli. Tot așa aduceau și pentru toți împărații hetiților și pentru împărații Siriei.
