1 Ó Senhor, defende a minha causa

contra os que me acusam;

luta contra aqueles

que me atacam.

2 Embraça o escudo e a couraça

e ergue-te em meu auxílio.

3 Empunha a lança

e reprime o passo

dos meus perseguidores.

Dize à minha alma:

"Eu sou a sua salvação."

4 Sejam confundidos

e cobertos de vexame

os que buscam tirar-me a vida;

retrocedam

e sejam envergonhados

os que tramam contra mim.

5 Sejam como a palha

que o vento leva,

impelindo-os o anjo do Senhor.

6 Que o caminho deles fique escuro

e se torne escorregadio,

e que o anjo do Senhor os persiga.

7 Pois sem razão me armaram

ciladas,

sem motivo abriram

uma cova para mim.

8 Venha sobre o inimigo

a destruição,

quando ele menos esperar;

e prendam-no os laços

que tramou ocultamente;

caia neles para a sua própria ruína.

9 Então a minha alma

se alegrará no Senhor

e se regozijará na sua salvação.

10 Todos os meus ossos dirão:

"Senhor, quem é semelhante a ti?

Pois livras o aflito daquele que é

mais forte do que ele;

livras o pobre e o necessitado

daqueles que os exploram."

11 Falsas testemunhas se levantam

e me interrogam sobre coisas

que eu não sei.

12 Pagam-me o mal pelo bem,

o que é desolação

para a minha alma.

13 Quanto a mim, porém,

estando eles enfermos,

as minhas roupas

eram pano de saco;

eu afligia a minha alma com jejum

e em oração me reclinava

sobre o peito.

14 Portava-me como se eles fossem

meus amigos ou meus irmãos;

andava curvado, de luto,

como quem chora por sua mãe.

15 Quando, porém, tropecei,

eles se alegraram

e se reuniram;

reuniram-se contra mim;

homens sem valor,

que eu não conhecia,

dilaceraram-me sem tréguas;

16 como hipócritas zombadores

numa festa,

rangiam os dentes contra mim.

17 Até quando, Senhor,

ficarás olhando?

Livra-me da violência deles;

salva dos leões

a minha preciosa vida.

18 Renderei graças

na grande congregação,

te louvarei

no meio da multidão poderosa.

19 Não se alegrem de mim os que,

sem razão, são meus inimigos;

não pisquem os olhos os que

sem motivo me odeiam.

20 Não é de paz que eles falam;

pelo contrário, tramam enganos

contra os pacíficos da terra.

21 Escancaram contra mim a boca

e dizem: "Pegamos! Pegamos!

Vimos tudo

com os nossos próprios olhos!"

22 Tu, Senhor, tens visto isso;

não te cales;

Senhor, não te ausentes de mim.

23 Acorda e desperta

para me fazeres justiça!

Defende a minha causa,

Deus meu e Senhor meu.

24 Julga-me, Senhor, Deus meu,

segundo a tua justiça;

não permitas que se alegrem

à minha custa.

25 Não digam eles lá no seu íntimo:

"Agora, sim! Cumpriu-se

o nosso desejo!"

Não digam: "Acabamos com ele!"

26 Envergonhem-se e, juntos,

sejam cobertos de vexame

os que se alegram com o meu mal!

Cubram-se de vergonha

e humilhação

os que se engrandecem

contra mim!

27 Cantem de júbilo e se alegrem

os que têm prazer

na minha retidão!

Que eles digam sempre:

"Glorificado seja o Senhor,

que se compraz na prosperidade

do seu servo!"

28 E a minha língua

celebrará a tua justiça

e o teu louvor todo o dia.

1 Strive thou, O LORD, with those who strive with me. Fight thou against those who fight against me.2 Take hold of shield and buckler, and stand up for my help.3 Draw out the spear also, and stop the way against those who pursue me. Say to my soul, I am thy salvation.4 Let them be put to shame and brought to dishonor who seek after my soul. Let them be turned back and confounded who devise my hurt.5 Let them be as chaff before the wind, and the agent of LORD driving [them] on.6 Let their way be dark and slippery, and the agent of LORD pursuing them.7 For without cause they have hid their net for me [in] a pit. Without cause have they dug [a pit] for my soul.8 Let destruction come upon him unawares, and let his net that he has hid catch himself. Let him fall in it with destruction.9 And my soul shall be joyful in LORD. It shall rejoice in his salvation.10 All my bones shall say, LORD, who is like thee, who delivers a poor man from him who is too strong for him, yea, a poor and needy man from him who robs him?11 Unrighteous witnesses rise up, they ask me of things that I know not.12 They reward me evil for good, [to] the bereaving of my soul.13 But as for me, when they were sick my clothing was sackcloth. I afflicted my soul with fasting, and my prayer returned into my own bosom.14 I behaved myself as though it had been my friend or my brother. I bowed down mourning, as he who bewails his mother.15 But in my adversity they rejoiced, and gathered themselves together. The wretches gathered themselves together against me, and I knew [it] not. They tore me, and ceased not.16 Like the profane mockers in feasts, they gnashed upon me with their teeth.17 LORD, how long will thou look on? Rescue my soul from their destructions, my darling from the lions.18 I will give thee thanks in the great assembly. I will praise thee among much people.19 Let not those who are my enemies wrongfully rejoice over me. Neither let them wink with the eye who hate me without a cause.20 For they speak not peace, but they devise deceitful words against those who are quiet in the land.21 Yea, they opened their mouth wide against me. They said, Aha, aha, our eye has seen it.22 Thou have seen it, O LORD. Keep not silence. O LORD, be not far from me.23 Stir up thyself, and awake to the justice to me, to my cause, my God and my LORD.24 Judge me, O LORD my God, according to thy righteousness, and let them not rejoice over me.25 Let them not say in their heart, Aha, so would we have it. Let them not say, We have swallowed him up.26 Let them be put to shame and confounded together who rejoice at my hurt. Let them be clothed with shame and dishonor who magnify themselves against me.27 Let them shout for joy, and be glad, who favor my righteous cause. Yea, let them say continually, LORD be magnified, who has pleasure in the prosperity of his servant.28 And my tongue shall talk of thy righteousness [and] of thy praise all the day long.
