1 Livra-me dos meus inimigos, ó Deus;

protege-me dos meus agressores.

2 Livra-me dos que praticam o mal

e salva-me dos assassinos.

3 Vê como ficam à minha espreita!

Homens cruéis conspiram contra mim

sem que eu tenha cometido delito ou pecado algum, ó Senhor.

4 Mesmo que eu não tenha feito mal algum,

eles se preparam às pressas para atacar-me.

Levanta-te, vem em meu auxílio

e olha a minha situação!

5 Tu, ó Senhor, Deus dos Exércitos,

és o Deus de Israel!

Desperta para castigar todas as nações;

não tenhas misericórdia dos traidores perversos. Pausa

6 Eles voltam ao cair da tarde,

rosnando como cães

e rondando a cidade.

7 Vê que ameaças lhes saem da boca;

os seus lábios são como espadas

e dizem: "Quem nos ouvirá?".

8 Mas tu, Senhor, ris deles;

caçoas de todas aquelas nações.

9 Ó minha força, por ti aguardarei,

pois tu, ó Deus, és a minha torre segura.

10 O Deus que me é leal irá adiante de mim

e me fará olhar em triunfo sobre os meus inimigos.

11 Mas não os mates,

senão o meu povo se esquecerá.

Dispersa-os com o teu poder e derruba-os,

ó Senhor, nosso escudo!

12 Pelos pecados da sua boca,

pelas palavras dos seus lábios,

sejam apanhados no seu próprio orgulho.

Pelas maldições e mentiras que pronunciam,

13 consome-os na tua ira;

consome-os até que deixem de existir.

Então, se saberá até os confins da terra

que Deus governa Jacó. Pausa

14 Eles voltam ao cair da tarde,

rosnando como cães

e rondando a cidade.

15 À procura de comida, perambulam

e, se não ficam satisfeitos, uivam.

16 Eu, porém, cantarei sobre a tua força;

de manhã, cantarei com alegria o teu amor leal,

pois tens sido a minha torre segura

e abrigo seguro nos momentos de angústia.

17 Ó minha força, cantarei louvores a ti,

pois tu, ó Deus, és a minha torre segura,

o Deus que tem amor leal por mim.

2 Deliver me from the workers of iniquity, and save me from bloody men.

3 For, lo, they lie in wait for my soul: the mighty are gathered against me; not for my transgression, nor for my sin, O LORD.

4 They run and prepare themselves without my fault: awake to help me, and behold.*59.4 help: Heb. meet

5 Thou therefore, O LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel, awake to visit all the heathen: be not merciful to any wicked transgressors. Selah.

6 They return at evening: they make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city.

7 Behold, they belch out with their mouth: swords are in their lips: for who, say they, doth hear?

8 But thou, O LORD, shalt laugh at them; thou shalt have all the heathen in derision.

9 Because of his strength will I wait upon thee: for God is my defence.*59.9 defence: Heb. high place

10 The God of my mercy shall prevent me: God shall let me see my desire upon mine enemies.*59.10 enemies: Heb. observers

11 Slay them not, lest my people forget: scatter them by thy power; and bring them down, O Lord our shield.

12 For the sin of their mouth and the words of their lips let them even be taken in their pride: and for cursing and lying which they speak.

13 Consume them in wrath, consume them, that they may not be: and let them know that God ruleth in Jacob unto the ends of the earth. Selah.

14 And at evening let them return; and let them make a noise like a dog, and go round about the city.

15 Let them wander up and down for meat, and grudge if they be not satisfied.*59.15 for meat: Heb. to eat*59.15 and grudge…: or, if they be not satisfied, then they will stay all night

16 But I will sing of thy power; yea, I will sing aloud of thy mercy in the morning: for thou hast been my defence and refuge in the day of my trouble.

17 Unto thee, O my strength, will I sing: for God is my defence, and the God of my mercy.
