1 Advertência contra o Egito: Vejam! O Senhor cavalga numa nuvem veloz que vai para o Egito. Os ídolos do Egito tremem diante dele, e os corações dos egípcios se derretem no íntimo.2 "Incitarei egípcio contra egípcio; cada um lutará contra seu irmão, vizinho lutará contra vizinho, cidade contra cidade, reino contra reino.3 Os egípcios ficarão desanimados, e farei que os seus planos resultem em nada. Depois eles consultarão os ídolos e os necromantes, os médiuns e os adivinhos,4 então eu entregarei os egípcios nas mãos de um senhor cruel, e um rei feroz dominará sobre eles", anuncia o Soberano, o Senhor dos Exércitos.5 As águas do rio vão secar-se; o leito do rio ficará completamente seco.6 Os canais terão mau cheiro; os riachos do Egito vão diminuir até secarem-se; os juncos e as canas murcharão.7 Haverá lugares secos ao longo do Nilo e na própria foz do rio. Tudo o que for semeado ao longo do Nilo se ressecará, será levado pelo vento e desaparecerá.8 Os pescadores gemerão e se lamentarão como também todos os que lançam anzóis no Nilo; os que lançam redes na água se desanimarão.9 Os que trabalham com linho e os tecelões de algodão se desesperarão.10 Os nobres ficarão deprimidos, e todos os assalariados ficarão abatidos.11 Os líderes de Zoa não passam de insensatos; os sábios conselheiros do faraó dão conselhos tolos. Como, então, vocês podem dizer ao faraó: "Sou sábio, sou discípulo dos reis da antigüidade"?12 Onde estão agora os seus sábios? Que lhe mostrem, se é que eles tem conhecimento do que o Senhor dos Exércitos tem planejado contra o Egito.13 Tornaram-se tolos os líderes de Zoã, e os de Mênfis são enganados; os chefes dos seus clãs induziram o Egito ao erro.14 O Senhor derramou dentro deles um espírito que os deixou desorientados; eles levam o Egito a cambalear em tudo quanto faz, como cambaleia o bêbado em volta do seu vômito.15 Não há nada que o Egito possa fazer, nada que a cabeça ou a cauda, a palma ou o junco possam fazer.16 Naquele dia os egípcios serão como mulheres. Tremerão de medo diante do agitar da mão do Senhor dos Exércitos, que se levantará contra eles.17 Judá trará pavor aos egípcios; todo aquele que mencionar o nome de Judá ficará apavorado, por causa do plano do Senhor dos Exércitos contra eles.18 Naquele dia cinco cidades do Egito falarão a língua de Canaã e jurarão lealdade ao Senhor dos Exércitos. Uma delas será chamada cidade do Sol.19 Naquele dia haverá um altar dedicado ao Senhor no centro do Egito, e em sua fronteira, um monumento ao Senhor.20 Serão um sinal e um testemunho para o Senhor dos Exércitos na terra do Egito. Quando eles clamarem ao Senhor por causa dos seus opressores, ele lhes enviará um salvador e defensor que os libertará.21 Assim o Senhor se dará a conhecer aos egípcios, e naquele dia eles saberão quem é o Senhor. A ele prestarão culto com sacrifícios e ofertas de cereal; farão votos ao Senhor e os cumprirão.22 O Senhor ferirá os egípcios; ele os ferirá e os curará. Eles se voltarão para o Senhor, e ele responderá às suas súplicas e os curará.23 Naquele dia haverá uma estrada do Egito para a Assíria. Os assírios irão para o Egito, e os egípcios para a Assíria, e os egípcios e os assírios cultuarão juntos.24 Naquele dia Israel será um mediador entre o Egito e a Assíria, uma bênção na terra.25 O Senhor dos Exércitos os abençoará, dizendo: "Bendito seja o Egito, meu povo, a Assíria, obra de minhas mãos, e Israel, minha herança".

1 The burden of Egypt. Look, Yahweh rides on a swift cloud, and comes to Egypt: and the idols of Egypt will tremble at his presence; and the heart of Egypt will melt in the midst of it.2 And I will stir up the Egyptians against the Egyptians: and they will fight a man against his brother, and a man against his fellow man; city against city, [and] kingdom against kingdom.3 And the spirit of Egypt will fail in the midst of it; and I will destroy its counsel: and they will seek to the idols, and to the charmers, and to the spiritists, and to the wizards.4 And I will give over the Egyptians into the hand of a cruel lord; and a fierce king will rule over them, says the Lord, Yahweh of hosts.5 And the waters will fail from the sea, and the river will be wasted and become dry.6 And the rivers will become foul; the streams of Egypt will be diminished and dried up; the reeds and flags will wither away.7 The meadows by the Nile, by the brink of the Nile, and all the sown fields of the Nile, will become dry, be driven away, and be no more.8 And the fishers will lament, and all those who cast angle into the Nile will mourn, and those who spread nets on the waters will languish.9 Moreover those who work in combed flax will be confounded, and the weavers will grow pale.10 And the weavers will be broken in pieces; all those who work for wages [will be] grieved in soul.11 The princes of Zoan are completely foolish; the counsel of the wisest counselors of Pharaoh has become brutish: how do you{+} say to Pharaoh, I am the son of the wise, the son of ancient kings?12 Where then are your wise men? And let them tell you now if they know what Yahweh of hosts has purposed concerning Egypt.13 The princes of Zoan have become fools, the princes of Memphis are deceived; they have caused Egypt to go astray, who are the cornerstone of her tribes.14 Yahweh has mingled a spirit of perverseness in the midst of her; and they have caused Egypt to go astray in every work of her, as a drunk man staggers in his vomit.15 Neither will there be for Egypt any work, which head or tail, palm-branch or rush, may do.16 In that day the Egyptians will be like women; and they will tremble and fear because of the shaking of the hand of Yahweh of hosts, which he shakes over them.17 And the land of Judah will become a terror to Egypt; everyone to whom mention is made of it will be afraid, because of the purpose of Yahweh of hosts, which he purposes against it.18 In that day there will be five cities in the land of Egypt that speak the language of Canaan, and swear to Yahweh of hosts; one will be called The City of the Sun.19 In that day there will be an altar to Yahweh in the midst of the land of Egypt, and a pillar at its border to Yahweh.20 And it will be for a sign and for a witness to Yahweh of hosts in the land of Egypt; for they will cry to Yahweh because of oppressors, and he will send them a savior, and a defender, and he will deliver them.21 And Yahweh will be known to Egypt, and the Egyptians will know Yahweh in that day; yes, they will worship with sacrifice and oblation, and will vow a vow to Yahweh, and will perform it.22 And Yahweh will strike Egypt, striking and healing; and they will return to Yahweh, and he will be entreated of them, and will heal them.23 In that day there will be a highway out of Egypt to Assyria, and the Assyrian will come into Egypt, and the Egyptian into Assyria; and the Egyptians will worship with the Assyrians.24 In that day Israel will be the third with Egypt and with Assyria, a blessing in the midst of the earth;25 for Yahweh of hosts has blessed them, saying, Blessed be Egypt my people, and Assyria the work of my hands, and Israel my inheritance.
