1 O Senhor me disse: "Vá e fale diretamente com o rei de Judá. Diga-lhe: 2 ‘Ouça esta mensagem do Senhor, ó rei de Judá, sentado no trono de Davi. Que seus servos e todo o seu povo também escutem. 3 Assim diz o Senhor: Sejam imparciais e justos. Ajudem os que são explorados e livrem-nos de seus opressores. Abandonem suas maldades: não maltratem os estrangeiros, nem os órfãos, nem as viúvas e parem de matar inocentes! 4 Se me obedecerem, sempre haverá um descendente de Davi sentado no trono em Jerusalém. O rei passará pelas portas do palácio em carruagens e cavalos, acompanhado de seus servos e súditos. 5 Mas, se vocês não derem ouvidos a esta advertência, juro por meu próprio nome, diz o Senhor, que este palácio se tornará um monte de escombros’".

6 Assim diz o Senhor acerca do palácio de Judá:

"Eu o amo tanto quanto a fértil floresta de Gileade

e os bosques verdes do Líbano.

Contudo, o transformarei num deserto,

e ninguém habitará dentro de seus muros.

7 Chamarei demolidores,

que trarão consigo suas ferramentas.

Arrancarão suas belas vigas de cedro

e as lançarão no fogo.

8 "Pessoas de muitas nações passarão pelas ruínas desta cidade e dirão umas às outras: ‘Por que o Senhor destruiu esta grande cidade?’. 9 E a resposta será: ‘Porque eles quebraram sua aliança com o Senhor, seu Deus, ao adorar e servir outros deuses’".

10 Não chorem pelo rei morto nem lamentem sua perda;

chorem, porém, pelo rei que foi levado como prisioneiro,

pois nunca mais voltará nem verá sua terra natal.

11 Pois assim diz o Senhor acerca de Jeoacaz, que sucedeu seu pai, o rei Josias, e foi levado para o exílio: "Ele jamais voltará. 12 Morrerá exilado numa terra distante e nunca mais verá sua terra natal".

13 "Que aflição espera Jeoaquim,

que edifica seu palácio de forma desonesta!

Constrói suas paredes com injustiça,

pois obriga gente do seu povo a trabalhar

sem pagar salário.

14 Diz: ‘Construirei para mim um palácio magnífico,

com salas espaçosas e muitas janelas.

Revestirei tudo com painéis de cedro

e pintarei de vermelho vívido’.

15 Mas um belo palácio de cedro não faz um grande rei!

Josias, seu pai, também tinha muita comida e bebida,

mas em tudo que fazia era justo e íntegro;

por isso tudo deu certo para ele.

16 Fez justiça ao pobre e ao necessitado e os ajudou,

e tudo lhe correu bem.

Não é isso que significa me conhecer?",

diz o Senhor.

17 "Você, porém, só tem olhos para a cobiça e a desonestidade;

derrama sangue inocente

e reina com crueldade e opressão."

18 Portanto, assim diz o Senhor acerca de Jeoaquim, filho de Josias, rei de Judá:

"O povo não lamentará por ele, nem clamará:

‘Que tristeza, meu irmão! Que tristeza, minha irmã!’.

Seus súditos não lamentarão por ele, nem clamarão:

‘Que tristeza, nosso senhor morreu!

Que tristeza, sua majestade se foi!’.

19 Será enterrado como se enterra um jumento:

arrastado e jogado fora dos portões de Jerusalém.

20 Chore por seus aliados no Líbano,

grite por eles em Basã.

Procure-os nas regiões a oeste do rio;

veja, foram todos destruídos!

21 Eu o adverti quando você era próspero,

mas você respondeu: ‘Recuso-me a ouvir’.

Sempre foi assim, desde a juventude;

nunca me obedece!

22 Agora o vento levará para longe seus aliados;

todos os seus amigos serão levados para o exílio.

Então certamente verá sua perversidade

e ficará envergonhado.

23 Você que mora num lindo palácio,

todo revestido de madeira de cedro do Líbano,

logo gemerá com pontadas de angústia,

como as dores da mulher em trabalho de parto."

24 "Tão certo como eu vivo", diz o Senhor, "eu o abandonarei, Joaquim, filho de Jeoaquim, rei de Judá. Mesmo que você fosse o anel de selar em minha mão direita, eu o arrancaria. 25 Eu o entregarei àqueles que procuram matá-lo, àqueles que você tanto teme: o rei Nabucodonosor da Babilônia e o exército babilônio. 26 Expulsarei você e sua mãe desta terra e vocês morrerão em nação estrangeira, e não em sua terra natal. 27 Jamais voltarão à terra pela qual anseiam.

28 "Por que esse homem, Joaquim, é como um vaso quebrado, jogado fora?

Por que ele e seus filhos serão exilados em terra estrangeira?

29 Ó terra, terra, terra de Judá!

Ouça esta mensagem do Senhor!

30 Assim diz o Senhor:

‘Registrem Joaquim como homem sem filhos.

Ele não terá êxito,

pois não terá filhos que o sucedam no trono de Davi

para reinar em Judá’."

1 Yahweh said, "Go down to the house of the king of Judah, and speak this word there: 2 ‘Hear Yahweh’s word, king of Judah, who sits on David’s throne—you, your servants, and your people who enter in by these gates. 3 Yahweh says: "Execute justice and righteousness, and deliver him who is robbed out of the hand of the oppressor. Do no wrong. Do no violence to the foreigner, the fatherless, or the widow. Don’t shed innocent blood in this place. 4 For if you do this thing indeed, then kings sitting on David’s throne will enter in by the gates of this house, riding in chariots and on horses—they, their servants, and their people. 5 But if you will not hear these words, I swear by myself," says Yahweh, "that this house will become a desolation."’"

6 For Yahweh says concerning the house of the king of Judah:

"You are Gilead to me,

the head of Lebanon.

Yet surely I will make you a wilderness,

cities which are not inhabited.

7 I will prepare destroyers against you,

everyone with his weapons,

and they will cut down your choice cedars,

and cast them into the fire.

8 "Many nations will pass by this city, and they will each ask his neighbor, ‘Why has Yahweh done this to this great city?’ 9 Then they will answer, ‘Because they abandoned the covenant of Yahweh their God, worshiped other gods, and served them.’"

10 Don’t weep for the dead.

Don’t bemoan him;

but weep bitterly for him who goes away,

for he will return no more,

and not see his native country.

11 For Yahweh says touching Shallum the son of Josiah, king of Judah, who reigned instead of Josiah his father, and who went out of this place: "He won’t return there any more. 12 But he will die in the place where they have led him captive. He will see this land no more."

13 "Woe to him who builds his house by unrighteousness,

and his rooms by injustice;

who uses his neighbor’s service without wages,

and doesn’t give him his hire;

14 who says, ‘I will build myself a wide house and spacious rooms,’

and cuts out windows for himself,

with a cedar ceiling,

and painted with red.

15 "Should you reign because you strive to excel in cedar?

Didn’t your father eat and drink,

and do justice and righteousness?

Then it was well with him.

16 He judged the cause of the poor and needy;

so then it was well.

Wasn’t this to know me?"

says Yahweh.

17 But your eyes and your heart are only for your covetousness,

for shedding innocent blood,

for oppression, and for doing violence."

18 Therefore Yahweh says concerning Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah:

"They won’t lament for him,

saying, ‘Ah my brother!’ or, ‘Ah sister!’

They won’t lament for him,

saying ‘Ah lord!’ or, ‘Ah his glory!’

19 He will be buried with the burial of a donkey,

drawn and cast out beyond the gates of Jerusalem."

20 "Go up to Lebanon, and cry out.

Lift up your voice in Bashan,

and cry from Abarim;

for all your lovers have been destroyed.

21 I spoke to you in your prosperity,

but you said, ‘I will not listen.’

This has been your way from your youth,

that you didn’t obey my voice.

22 The wind will feed all your shepherds,

and your lovers will go into captivity.

Surely then you will be ashamed

and confounded for all your wickedness.

23 Inhabitant of Lebanon,

who makes your nest in the cedars,

how greatly to be pitied you will be when pangs come on you,

the pain as of a woman in travail!

24 "As I live," says Yahweh, "though Coniah the son of Jehoiakim king of Judah were the signet on my right hand, I would still pluck you from there. 25 I would give you into the hand of those who seek your life, and into the hand of them of whom you are afraid, even into the hand of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon, and into the hand of the Chaldeans. 26 I will cast you out with your mother who bore you into another country, where you were not born; and there you will die. 27 But to the land to which their soul longs to return, there they will not return."

28 Is this man Coniah a despised broken vessel?

Is he a vessel in which no one delights?

Why are they cast out, he and his offspring,

and cast into a land which they don’t know?

29 O earth, earth, earth,

hear Yahweh’s word!

30 Yahweh says,

"Record this man as childless,

a man who will not prosper in his days;

for no more will a man of his offspring prosper,

sitting on David’s throne

and ruling in Judah."
