1 "Fujam, habitantes de Benjamim!

Saiam de Jerusalém!

Toquem a trombeta em Tecoa!

Enviem um sinal para Bete-Haquerém!

Um exército poderoso vem do norte,

trazendo calamidade e destruição.

2 Ó Sião, você é minha bela e delicada filha,

mas eu a destruirei!

3 Inimigos a cercarão, como pastores acampados ao redor da cidade;

cada um escolherá um lugar para suas tropas devorarem.

4 Gritam: ‘Preparem-se para a batalha!

Ataquem ao meio-dia!’.

‘Não! É tarde demais; o dia está quase no fim,

e as sombras da noite já vêm.’

5 ‘Então, vamos atacar à noite

e destruir seus palácios!’"

6 Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos:

"Cortem árvores e construam rampas de ataque

contra os muros de Jerusalém.

Essa cidade deve ser castigada,

pois dentro dela só há opressão.

7 Dela brota maldade, como água de uma fonte;

pelas ruas se ouve o som de violência e destruição,

e vejo somente doenças e feridas.

8 Ouça esta advertência, Jerusalém,

ou me afastarei de você.

Ouça, para que eu não a transforme num monte de ruínas,

numa terra onde ninguém vive".

9 Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos:

"Até os poucos que restarem em Israel

serão colhidos,

como faz o lavrador que examina cada videira novamente

para apanhar as uvas que deixou escapar".

10 A quem darei esta advertência?

Quem ouvirá quando eu falar?

Seus ouvidos estão tapados

e não conseguem escutar.

Desprezam a palavra do Senhor

e detestam ouvi-la.

11 Por isso, estou cheio da ira do Senhor;

estou cansado de contê-la dentro de mim!

"Derramarei minha ira sobre as crianças nas ruas

e sobre os jovens reunidos em grupo;

sobre maridos e esposas

e sobre pessoas de idade.

12 Suas casas serão entregues a seus inimigos,

e também seus campos e esposas.

Pois levantarei minha mão poderosa.

contra o povo desta terra",

diz o Senhor.

13 "Desde o mais humilde até o mais importante,

sua vida é dominada pela ganância.

Desde os profetas até os sacerdotes,

são todos impostores.

14 Oferecem curativos superficiais

para a ferida mortal do meu povo.

Dão garantias de paz,

quando não há paz alguma.

15 Acaso se envergonham de sua conduta detestável?

De maneira alguma! Nem sabem o que é vergonha!

Portanto, estarão entre os que caírem no massacre;

ficarão arruinados quando eu os castigar",

diz o Senhor.

16 Assim diz o Senhor:

"Parem nas encruzilhadas e olhem ao redor,

perguntem qual é o caminho antigo, o bom caminho;

andem por ele e encontrarão descanso para a alma.

Vocês, porém, respondem:

‘Não é esse o caminho que queremos seguir’.

17 Coloquei sobre vocês vigias que disseram:

‘Fiquem atentos ao som da trombeta’.

Vocês, porém, respondem:

‘Não vamos prestar atenção’.

18 "Portanto, ouçam isto, todas as nações,

considerem a situação do meu povo.

19 Ouça, toda a terra:

Trarei calamidade sobre meu povo.

Será fruto de suas próprias intrigas,

pois não querem me ouvir;

rejeitaram a minha lei.

20 De nada adianta me oferecerem incenso doce de Sabá;

fiquem com seu cálamo perfumado, importado de terras distantes!

Não aceitarei seus holocaustos;

seus sacrifícios não têm aroma agradável para mim".

21 Portanto, assim diz o Senhor:

"Colocarei obstáculos no caminho deste povo;

pais e filhos tropeçarão neles,

vizinhos e amigos morrerão".

22 Assim diz o Senhor:

"Vejam, um exército vem do norte!

De terras distantes se levanta uma grande nação.

23 Estão armados com arcos e lanças;

são cruéis e não têm misericórdia.

Quando avançam montados em cavalos,

o barulho é como o rugido do mar.

Vêm em formação de batalha

com o intuito de destruí-la, bela Sião".

24 Ouvimos relatos sobre o inimigo,

e nossas mãos tremem de medo.

Somos tomados de pontadas de angústia,

como as dores da mulher em trabalho de parto.

25 Não saiam para os campos!

Não viagem pelas estradas!

A espada do inimigo está por toda parte

e nos aterroriza a cada passo.

26 Ó meu povo, vista-se de pano de saco

e sente-se sobre as cinzas.

Lamente e chore amargamente, como quem perdeu o único filho,

pois, de repente, o destruidor virá sobre você.

27 "Jeremias, fiz de você um examinador de metais,

para que determine a qualidade do meu povo.

28 São rebeldes da pior espécie

e vivem espalhando calúnias.

São duros como o bronze e o ferro

e corrompem as pessoas.

29 O fole assopra o fogo com força

para separar as impurezas,

mas não os purifica,

pois sua maldade permanece.

30 São chamados de ‘Prata Rejeitada’,

pois eu, o Senhor, os rejeito."

1 "Flee for safety, you children of Benjamin, out of the middle of Jerusalem! Blow the trumpet in Tekoa and raise up a signal on Beth Haccherem, for evil looks out from the north with a great destruction. 2 I will cut off the beautiful and delicate one, the daughter of Zion. 3 Shepherds with their flocks will come to her. They will pitch their tents against her all around. They will feed everyone in his place."

4 "Prepare war against her! Arise! Let’s go up at noon. Woe to us! For the day declines, for the shadows of the evening are stretched out. 5 Arise! Let’s go up by night, and let’s destroy her palaces." 6 For Yahweh of Armies said, "Cut down trees, and cast up a mound against Jerusalem. This is the city to be visited. She is filled with oppression within herself. 7 As a well produces its waters, so she produces her wickedness. Violence and destruction is heard in her. Sickness and wounds are continually before me. 8 Be instructed, Jerusalem, lest my soul be alienated from you, lest I make you a desolation, an uninhabited land."

9 Yahweh of Armies says, "They will thoroughly glean the remnant of Israel like a vine. Turn again your hand as a grape gatherer into the baskets."

10 To whom should I speak and testify, that they may hear? Behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they can’t listen. Behold, Yahweh’s word has become a reproach to them. They have no delight in it. 11 Therefore I am full of Yahweh’s wrath. I am weary with holding it in.

"Pour it out on the children in the street,

and on the assembly of young men together;

for even the husband with the wife will be taken,

the aged with him who is full of days.

12 Their houses will be turned to others,

their fields and their wives together;

for I will stretch out my hand on the inhabitants of the land, says Yahweh."

13 "For from their least even to their greatest, everyone is given to covetousness.

From the prophet even to the priest, everyone deals falsely.

14 They have healed also the hurt of my people superficially,

saying, ‘Peace, peace!’ when there is no peace.

15 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination?

No, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush.

Therefore they will fall among those who fall.

When I visit them, they will be cast down," says Yahweh.

16 Yahweh says, "Stand in the ways and see, and ask for the old paths, ‘Where is the good way?’ and walk in it, and you will find rest for your souls. But they said, ‘We will not walk in it.’ 17 I set watchmen over you, saying, ‘Listen to the sound of the trumpet!’ But they said, ‘We will not listen!’ 18 Therefore hear, you nations, and know, congregation, what is among them. 19 Hear, earth! Behold, I will bring evil on this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not listened to my words; and as for my law, they have rejected it. 20 To what purpose does frankincense from Sheba come to me, and the sweet cane from a far country? Your burnt offerings are not acceptable, and your sacrifices are not pleasing to me."

21 Therefore Yahweh says, "Behold, I will lay stumbling blocks before this people. The fathers and the sons together will stumble against them. The neighbor and his friend will perish." 22 Yahweh says, "Behold, a people comes from the north country. A great nation will be stirred up from the uttermost parts of the earth. 23 They take hold of bow and spear. They are cruel, and have no mercy. Their voice roars like the sea, and they ride on horses, everyone set in array, as a man to the battle, against you, daughter of Zion."

24 We have heard its report. Our hands become feeble. Anguish has taken hold of us, and pains as of a woman in labor. 25 Don’t go out into the field or walk by the way; for the sword of the enemy and terror are on every side. 26 Daughter of my people, clothe yourself with sackcloth, and wallow in ashes! Mourn, as for an only son, most bitter lamentation, for the destroyer will suddenly come on us.

27 "I have made you a tester of metals and a fortress among my people, that you may know and try their way. 28 They are all grievous rebels, going around to slander. They are bronze and iron. All of them deal corruptly. 29 The bellows blow fiercely. The lead is consumed in the fire. In vain they go on refining, for the wicked are not plucked away. 30 Men will call them rejected silver, because Yahweh has rejected them."
