A ingratidão de Israel. Ameaças e promessas

1 Quando Israel era menino, eu o amei *Os 2.15;12.9,13;13.4e do Egito *Mt 2.15chamei a meu filho. 2 Como eles *2Rs 17.13-15o chamavam, assim se retiravam da sua presença; *Os 2.13;4.13ofereciam sacrifícios aos Baalins *Is 65.7;Jr 18.15e queimavam incenso às imagens esculpidas. 3 Todavia, eu *Os 7.15ensinava a Efraim a andar; *Dt 1.31;32.10-11levava-os nos meus braços, porém não conheceram que eu *Sl 107.20;Jr 30.17os curava. 4 Eu *Jr 31.2-3os atraía com cordas de homem, com laços de amor; eu era para com eles como quem tira o jugo de cima dos seus queixos *Êx 16.32e lhes punha diante o mantimento.

5 Ele não voltará para a terra do Egito, mas *Os 10.6Assur será o seu rei, porque *Os 7.16recusaram converter-se. 6 *Os 13.16A espada cairá sobre as suas cidades, *Lm 2.9e consumirá os seus ferrolhos, e os devorará, por causa *Os 4.16-17dos seus conselhos. 7 O meu povo inclina-se *Jr 8.5a apostatar de mim; ainda que o *Os 11.2chamem ao que está no alto, ninguém o poderá exaltar.

8 *Os 6.4;7.1Como poderei deixar-te, Efraim? Como poderei livrar-te, Israel? Como te farei como *Gn 14.8;Dt 29.23Admá? Como te porei como Zeboim? O meu coração está comovido dentro de mim, as minhas compaixões juntamente se acendem. 9 *Dt 13.17Não executarei o furor da minha ira, *Jr 26.3;30.11não me tornarei para destruir a Efraim, pois eu sou Deus e não homem, *Is 5.24;12.6;41.14,16o Santo no meio de ti. Não entrarei na cidade. 10 *Os 3.5;6.1-3Andarão após Jeová, que *Is 31.4;Jl 3.16;Am 1.2rugirá como um leão; pois ele rugirá, e os filhos virão apressadamente do Ocidente. 11 Virão apressadamente do *Is 11.11Egito como *Os 7.11;Is 60.8uma ave e da terra da Assíria, como uma pomba; e os farei *Ez 34.27-28habitar em suas casas, diz Jeová.

12 Efraim me cerca com *Os 4.2;7.3falsidade, e a casa de Israel, com engano; mas Judá ainda domina com Deus e é fiel com o Santo.

1 "When Israel was a child, then I loved him,

and called my son out of Egypt.

2 They called to them, so they went from them.

They sacrificed to the Baals,

and burned incense to engraved images.

3 Yet I taught Ephraim to walk.

I took them by their arms,

but they didn’t know that I healed them.

4 I drew them with cords of a man, with ties of love;

and I was to them like those who lift up the yoke on their necks;

and I bent down to him and I fed him.

5 "They won’t return into the land of Egypt;

but the Assyrian will be their king,

because they refused to repent.

6 The sword will fall on their cities,

and will destroy the bars of their gates,

and will put an end to their plans.

7 My people are determined to turn from me.

Though they call to the Most High,

he certainly won’t exalt them.

8 "How can I give you up, Ephraim?

How can I hand you over, Israel?

How can I make you like Admah?

How can I make you like Zeboiim?

My heart is turned within me,

my compassion is aroused.

9 I will not execute the fierceness of my anger.

I will not return to destroy Ephraim,

for I am God, and not man—the Holy One among you.

I will not come in wrath.

10 They will walk after Yahweh,

who will roar like a lion;

for he will roar, and the children will come trembling from the west.

11 They will come trembling like a bird out of Egypt,

and like a dove out of the land of Assyria;

and I will settle them in their houses," says Yahweh.

12 Ephraim surrounds me with falsehood,

and the house of Israel with deceit.

Judah still strays from God,

and is unfaithful to the Holy One.
