O pecado de Israel e o seu castigo

1 *Jó 29.21-22Quando Efraim falava, tremia-se; *Jz 8.1;12.1exaltou-se em Israel; mas, quando se fez culpado no tocante a *Os 2.8-17;11.2Baal, morreu. 2 Agora, pecam cada vez mais, e, da sua prata, tem feito para si *Os 2.8;Is 46.6;Jr 10.4imagens fundidas, a saber, ídolos segundo o seu *Is 44.17-20entendimento, todos eles *Os 8.6obra de artífices; deles dizem: Os homens que oferecem sacrifícios beijem aos *Os 8.5-6;10.5bezerros! 3 Por isso, serão como *Os 6.4a nuvem da manhã e como o orvalho que cedo passa; como o *Sl 1.4;Is 17.13;Dn 2.35folhelho que o turbilhão lança da eira e como *Sl 68.2o fumo duma chaminé.

4 Contudo, eu *Os 12.9sou Jeová, teu Deus, desde a terra do Egito; tu não conhecerás *Êx 20.3;2Rs 18.35outro deus fora de mim, e não há salvador *Is 43.11;45.21-22senão eu. 5 Eu te *Dt 32.10conheci no deserto, na terra de grande seca. 6 Segundo o seu pasto, assim eles *Dt 8.12,14;32.13-15;Jr 5.7se fartaram; fartaram-se, e foi o *Os 7.14seu coração exaltado; portanto, *Os 2.13;4.6;8.14se esqueceram de mim. 7 Por isso, sou para eles como um leão; *Os 5.14como um *Jr 5.6leopardo, espreitarei junto ao caminho; 8 como uma ursa roubada dos seus cachorros, lhes sairei ao encontro e lhes rasgarei os muros do coração; ali, *Sl 50.22os devorarei como um leão; as feras os despedaçarão.

9 É a tua destruição, ó Israel, estares tu *Jr 2.17,19;Ml 1.12-13contra mim, contra o teu *Dt 33.26,29auxílio. 10 Onde está, agora, o teu *Os 8.4;2Rs 17.4rei, para que te salve em todas as tuas cidades? Onde estão os teus *Os 7.7juízes, de quem disseste: Dá-me rei e príncipes? 11 *1Sm 8.7Dei-te um rei na minha ira *Os 10.7;1Rs 14.7-10e tirei-o no meu furor. 12 A iniquidade de Efraim está atada; o seu pecado está *Dt 32.34-35;Jó 14.17;Rm 2.5depositado. 13 Sobre ele virão as dores *Mq 4.9-10duma mulher que está de parto; ele é um filho *Os 5.4;Dt 32.6insensato, pois é tempo de ele *Is 37.3;66.9não se demorar no lugar de onde saem os filhos. 14 *Sl 49.15;Ez 37.12-13Resgatá-los-ei do poder do Sheol; remi-los-ei da morte. Onde estão, *1Co 15.55ó morte, as tuas pragas? Onde está, ó Sheol, a tua destruição? O *Jr 20.16;31.35-37arrependimento será escondido dos meus olhos.

15 Ainda que ele *Os 10.1;Gn 49.22dê fruto entre seus irmãos, virá um *Gn 41.6;Ez 17.10;19.12vento oriental, vento de Jeová que sobe do deserto, e o seu manancial *Jr 51.36secará, e a sua fonte será esgotada; ele *Jr 20.5saqueará o tesouro de todos os vasos preciosos. 16 Samaria levará sobre si a sua *Os 10.2culpa, porque *Os 7.14se rebelou contra o seu Deus; cairão *Os 11.6à espada; seus filhos serão *Os 10.14despedaçados, e as suas *2Rs 15.16mulheres grávidas serão fendidas.

1 When Ephraim spoke, there was trembling.

He exalted himself in Israel,

but when he became guilty through Baal, he died.

2 Now they sin more and more,

and have made themselves molten images of their silver,

even idols according to their own understanding,

all of them the work of the craftsmen.

They say of them, ‘They offer human sacrifice and kiss the calves.’

3 Therefore they will be like the morning mist,

like the dew that passes away early,

like the chaff that is driven with the whirlwind out of the threshing floor,

and like the smoke out of the chimney.

4 "Yet I am Yahweh your God from the land of Egypt;

and you shall acknowledge no god but me,

and besides me there is no savior.

5 I knew you in the wilderness,

in the land of great drought.

6 According to their pasture, so were they filled;

they were filled, and their heart was exalted.

Therefore they have forgotten me.

7 Therefore I am like a lion to them.

Like a leopard, I will lurk by the path.

8 I will meet them like a bear that is bereaved of her cubs,

and will tear the covering of their heart.

There I will devour them like a lioness.

The wild animal will tear them.

9 You are destroyed, Israel, because you are against me,

against your helper.

10 Where is your king now, that he may save you in all your cities?

And your judges, of whom you said, ‘Give me a king and princes’?

11 I have given you a king in my anger,

and have taken him away in my wrath.

12 The guilt of Ephraim is stored up.

His sin is stored up.

13 The sorrows of a travailing woman will come on him.

He is an unwise son,

for when it is time, he doesn’t come to the opening of the womb.

14 I will ransom them from the power of Sheol.*13:14 Sheol is the place of the dead.

I will redeem them from death!

Death, where are your plagues?

Sheol, where is your destruction?

"Compassion will be hidden from my eyes.

15 Though he is fruitful among his brothers, an east wind will come,

the breath of Yahweh coming up from the wilderness;

and his spring will become dry,

and his fountain will be dried up.

He will plunder the storehouse of treasure.

16 Samaria will bear her guilt,

for she has rebelled against her God.

They will fall by the sword.

Their infants will be dashed in pieces,

and their pregnant women will be ripped open."
