1 Ο Σολομών έχτισε και τα ανάκτορά του· έκανε δεκατρία χρόνια να τελειώσει όλα τα οικοδομήματα.

2 Έτσι έχτισε το οίκημα που ονομαζόταν «Δάσος του Λιβάνου». Είχε τρεις*τρεις, κατά τους Ο΄. Το εβρ. έχει «τέσσερις». σειρές στύλων από κέδρο. Το μάκρος του ήταν εκατό πήχεις, το πλάτος πενήντα και το ύψος του τριάντα πήχεις. 3 Η στέγη ήταν κι αυτή από ξύλα κέδρου, στερεωμένη πάνω στα οριζόντια δοκάρια που στηρίζονταν στους σαράντα πέντε στύλους –τρεις σειρές από δεκαπέντε στύλους. 4,5 Στην καθεμιά από τις δυο πλευρές του κτιρίου υπήρχαν τρεις σειρές παράθυρα, το ένα αντίκρυ στο άλλο και στις τρεις σειρές. Όλες οι πόρτες και τα πλαίσια των παραθύρων*των παραθύρων, κατά αρχ. ελληνική μετ. Το εβρ. έχει «των θυρών». είχαν σχήμα ορθογώνιο.

6 Στη συνέχεια ο Σολομών κατασκεύασε την «Αίθουσα των Στύλων». Είχε μήκος πενήντα πήχεις και πλάτος τριάντα. Στην είσοδο υπήρχε στοά, που στηριζόταν σε στύλους αντικρυστούς. 7 Επίσης κατασκεύασε την «Αίθουσα του Θρόνου», όπου θα δίκαζε, και γι’ αυτό λεγόταν και «Αίθουσα της Κρίσεως». Το δάπεδό της το κάλυψε με ξύλα κέδρου από τη μια άκρη ως την άλλη. 8 Τα διαμερίσματα όπου κατοικούσε ο ίδιος ο βασιλιάς ήταν σε άλλη αυλή, πίσω από τη στοά, κατασκευασμένα με τον ίδιο τρόπο. Για τη γυναίκα του, την κόρη του Φαραώ, κατασκεύασε άλλο ανάκτορο, χτισμένο με τον ίδιο τρόπο, όπως και η στοά.

9 Για όλα αυτά τα κτίρια και για τη μεγάλη αυλή, χρησιμοποιήθηκαν εκλεκτές πέτρες, από τα θεμέλια ως την οροφή. Οι πέτρες προετοιμάζονταν στο λατομείο σύμφωνα με ορισμένες διαστάσεις και πριονίζονταν από τη μέσα πλευρά τους και από την έξω. 10 Ακόμα και τα θεμέλια ήταν χτισμένα με πέτρες ωραίες και μεγάλες, των δέκα και των οκτώ πηχών. 11 Από πάνω τοποθετούσαν τις εκλεκτές πέτρες, πελεκημένες όλες στις ίδιες διαστάσεις, καθώς και τους κέδρους. 12 Ο τοίχος της μεγάλης αυλής ολόγυρα ήταν χτισμένος με την ίδια σύνθεση: τρεις στρώσεις πελεκητές πέτρες, μία στρώση κέδρινα δοκάρια, όπως η εσωτερική αυλή του ναού του Κυρίου και η στοά του ανακτόρου.

13 Ο βασιλιάς Σολομών έστειλε κι έφερε από την Τύρο έναν τεχνίτη, το Χιράμ, 14 γιο μιας χήρας από τη φυλή Νεφθαλί. Ο πατέρας του ήταν Τύριος, χαλκουργός. Ο ίδιος είχε ιδιαίτερες ικανότητες και αντίληψη και ήξερε να κάνει κατασκευές από χαλκό. Ήρθε λοιπόν, στο βασιλιά Σολομώντα και του έκανε όλες τις σχετικές εργασίες. 15 Έκανε δύο χάλκινους στύλους χυτούς, δεκαοκτώ πήχεις ύψος τον καθένα και με περίμετρο δώδεκα πήχεις. 16 Επίσης κατασκεύασε δύο κιονόκρανα από χυτό χαλκό, για να τα βάλει στην κορυφή των στύλων. Το ύψος κάθε κιονόκρανου ήταν πέντε πήχεις.

17 Ο Χιράμ έφτιαξε επίσης διχτυωτά από αλυσίδες, για τα κιονόκρανα των δύο στύλων, εφτά για το καθένα. 18 Επίσης έκανε μια διακόσμηση που έμοιαζε με ρόδια, κι έβαλε δύο σειρές πάνω στα διχτυωτά που σκέπαζαν το κάθε κιονόκρανο. 19 Τα κιονόκρανα των δύο στύλων*Εδώ το εβρ. προσθέτει τη φρ. «της στοάς της εισόδου». είχαν τη μορφή κρίνου ύψους τεσσάρων πήχεων 20 και είχαν τοποθετηθεί πάνω σε μια κυκλική διόγκωση ακριβώς πάνω από τη δικτυωτή διακόσμηση. Επίσης υπήρχαν διακόσια ρόδια σε δύο σειρές γύρω από κάθε κιονόκρανο. 21 Ο Χιράμ τοποθέτησε τους δύο στύλους στη στοά του ναού. Τον ένα τον έβαλε δεξιά και τον ονόμασε «Ιαχείν» (Ο Θεός θα στηρίξει) και τον άλλον αριστερά, και τον ονόμασε «Βοάζ» (Στο Θεό είναι η δύναμη). 22 Στην κορυφή των στύλων υπήρχε αναπαράσταση κρίνων.

Έτσι τελείωσε η εργασία των στύλων.

23 Επίσης ο Χιράμ κατασκεύασε τη λεγόμενη «θάλασσα». Ήταν μια μεγάλη, στρογγυλή, χάλκινη λεκάνη, με δέκα πήχεις διάμετρο, πέντε πήχεις ύψος και τριάντα πήχεις περίμετρο. 24 Κάτω από τα χείλη της λεκάνης ολόγυρα, χυμένα σ’ ένα σώμα μ’ αυτήν, υπήρχαν ανάγλυφα διακοσμητικά σχήματα καρπών κολοκυθιάς, δέκα καρποί ανά πήχυ, σε δύο σειρές. 25 Η λεκάνη στηριζόταν σε δώδεκα χάλκινα βόδια. Τρία έβλεπαν στο βορρά, τρία στη δύση, τρία στο νότο και τρία στην ανατολή. Η λεκάνη ήταν τοποθετημένη στην πλάτη τους, ενώ τα οπίσθιά τους ήταν στραμμένα προς το κέντρο. 26 Το πάχος της ήταν μία παλάμη και τα χείλη της ήταν σαν χείλη ποτηριού, σαν λουλούδι κρίνου. Η χωρητικότητά της ήταν δύο χιλιάδες βαθ.

27 Επίσης ο Χιράμ κατασκεύασε δέκα βάσεις από χαλκό. Κάθε βάση είχε τέσσερις πήχεις μήκος, τέσσερις πήχεις πλάτος και τρεις πήχεις ύψος. 28 Η κατασκευή τους ήταν ως εξής: Αποτελούνταν από πλαίσια τοποθετημένα ανάμεσα σε υποστηρίγματα. 29 Πάνω στα πλαίσια και στα υποστηρίγματα υπήρχαν διακοσμήσεις από λιοντάρια, βόδια και χερουβίμ· κάτω από τα λιοντάρια και τα βόδια, ήταν κρεμασμένες σκαλιστές γιρλάντες. 30 Κάθε βάση στηριζόταν σε τέσσερις χάλκινες ρόδες με χάλκινους άξονες. Στις τέσσερις γωνίες, κάτω από τη λεκάνη, υπήρχαν χάλκινα υποστηρίγματα χυτά, τα οποία δεν κατέβαιναν κάτω από τις γιρλάντες. 31 Στο υψηλότερο μέρος της βάσης υπήρχε εσωτερικά ένα στρογγυλό άνοιγμα, διαμέτρου ενάμισυ πήχυ, υπερυψωμένο κατά έναν πήχυ, που χρησίμευε ως υποδοχή του λουτήρα. Υπήρχαν κι εκεί σκαλίσματα που τα μοτίβα τους ήταν τετράγωνα, όχι στρογγυλά. 32 Οι τέσσερις ρόδες ήταν κάτω από τα πλαίσια και οι άξονές τους ενώνονταν με τη βάση. Η διάμετρος κάθε ρόδας ήταν ενάμισος πήχυς. 33 Οι ρόδες αυτές ήταν κατασκευασμένες όπως της άμαξας. Οι άξονες των τροχών, οι στεφάνες, οι ακτίνες και οι κεφαλές των αξόνων τους, όλα ήταν χυτά από χαλκό. 34 Τα τέσσερα υποστηρίγματα στις τέσσερις γωνίες κάθε βάσης ήταν ένα σώμα με τη βάση. 35 Η επάνω επιφάνεια κάθε βάσης ήταν διακοσμημένη μ’ ένα κυκλικό περίζωμα, ύψους μισού πήχυ· τα υποστηρίγματά της και τα πλαίσιά της αποτελούσαν ένα σώμα με αυτήν. 36 Στις πλάκες των υποστηριγμάτων και στα πλαίσιά τους ο Χιράμ χάραξε χερουβίμ, λέοντες και φοίνικες, ανάλογα με την ελεύθερη επιφάνειά τους και έβαλε γιρλάντες ολόγυρα. 37 Οι δέκα βάσεις ήταν κατασκευασμένες πανομοιότυπα. Όλες ήταν χυτές και είχαν το ίδιο μέγεθος και το ίδιο σχήμα.

38 Μετά ο Χιράμ κατασκεύασε δέκα λουτήρες από χαλκό. Κάθε λουτήρας ήταν χωρητικότητας σαράντα βαθ και διαμέτρου τεσσάρων πήχεων. Τοποθετήθηκαν ένας πάνω σε κάθε βάση. 39 Τοποθέτησε τους πέντε λουτήρες στη δεξιά πλευρά του ναού και τους πέντε στην αριστερή. Και τη μεγάλη χάλκινη λεκάνη την τοποθέτησε στη δεξιά πλευρά του ναού, νοτιοανατολικά.

40 Τέλος ο Χιράμ κατασκεύασε τις σταχτοδόχες, τα φτυάρια και τις λεκάνες. Έτσι τελείωσε όλες τις εργασίες που του είχε αναθέσει ο βασιλιάς Σολομών για το ναό του Κυρίου: 41 Κατασκεύασε τους δύο στύλους και τα στρογγυλά κιονόκρανα, στην κορυφή τους και τα δύο διχτυωτά από αλυσίδες, που κάλυπταν τα στρογγυλά κιονόκρανα, στην κορυφή των στύλων· 42 τα τετρακόσια ρόδια για τα δύο διχτυωτά, δύο σειρές ρόδια για κάθε διχτυωτό· 43 τους δέκα λουτήρες με τις βάσεις τους· 44 τη χάλκινη λεκάνη και τα δώδεκα βόδια που τη βάσταζαν· 45 τις σταχτοδόχες, τα φτυάρια και τις λεκάνες. Όλα αυτά τα σκεύη που ο βασιλιάς Σολομών παρήγγειλε στο Χιράμ να κατασκευάσει για το ναό του Κυρίου, ήταν από λαμπερό χαλκό.

46 Με διαταγή του βασιλιά, όλες αυτές οι κατασκευές έγιναν σε αργιλώδη περιοχή, στην κοιλάδα του Ιορδάνη, ανάμεσα στα χωριά Σουκκώθ και Σαρθάν.*Τοποθεσίες στην ανατολική όχθη του Ιορδάνη, 60 χλμ. έξω από την Ιερουσαλήμ, βορειοανατολικά. Η περιοχή προσφερόταν για τέτοιου είδους εργασίες.47 Όλα αυτά τα σκεύη, ο Σολομών τα άφησε αζύγιστα. Ήταν τόσο πολλά, που δεν ήταν δυνατό να υπολογιστεί το βάρος του χαλκού.

48 Ο Σολομών επίσης διέταξε να κατασκευαστούν όλα τα σκεύη που προορίζονταν για το ναό του Κυρίου: το χρυσό θυσιαστήριο και η χρυσή τράπεζα, πάνω στην οποία τοποθετούσαν τους άρτους της προθέσεως· 49 οι λυχνίες από καθαρό χρυσάφι, πέντε δεξιά και πέντε αριστερά, μπροστά στα άγια των αγίων, με τα διακοσμητικά λουλούδια· οι λύχνοι και οι λαβίδες από χρυσάφι· 50 επίσης οι λεκάνες και τα λυχνοψάλιδα, τα περιρραντήρια, οι κρατήρες, τα θυμιατήρια και οι σχάρες από καθαρό χρυσάφι· οι μεντεσέδες των θυρών του ενδότερου τμήματος του ναού, που ονομαζόταν άγια των αγίων, καθώς και οι μεντεσέδες των εξωτερικών θυρών του κυρίως ναού, από χρυσάφι.

51 Όταν είχε τελειώσει όλη η εργασία της ανοικοδόμησης του ναού του Κυρίου, ο βασιλιάς Σολομών έφερε τα ασημένια, τα χρυσά και διάφορα άλλα σκεύη, που ο πατέρας του ο Δαβίδ τα είχε αφιερώσει στον Κύριο,*Βλ. Β΄ Σαμ 6:12-16· Α΄ Χρ 15:25-29. και τα τοποθέτησε στο θησαυροφυλάκιο του ναού.

Solomon made also an house for Pharaoh’s daughter, whom he had taken to wife, like unto this porch. 9 All these were of costly stones, according to the measures of hewed stones, sawed with saws, within and without, even from the foundation unto the coping, and so on the outside toward the great court. 10 And the foundation was of costly stones, even great stones, stones of ten cubits, and stones of eight cubits. 11 And above were costly stones, after the measures of hewed stones, and cedars. 12 And the great court round about was with three rows of hewed stones, and a row of cedar beams, both for the inner court of the house of the LORD, and for the porch of the house.

13 And king Solomon sent and fetched Hiram out of Tyre.*7.13 Hiram: also called, Huram 14 He was a widow’s son of the tribe of Naphtali, and his father was a man of Tyre, a worker in brass: and he was filled with wisdom, and understanding, and cunning to work all works in brass. 27 And he made ten bases of brass; four cubits was the length of one base, and four cubits the breadth thereof, and three cubits the height of it. 28 And the work of the bases was on this manner: they had borders, and the borders were between the ledges: 29 And on the borders that were between the ledges were lions, oxen, and cherubims: and upon the ledges there was a base above: and beneath the lions and oxen were certain additions made of thin work. 30 And every base had four brasen wheels, and plates of brass: and the four corners thereof had undersetters: under the laver were undersetters molten, at the side of every addition. 31 And the mouth of it within the chapiter and above was a cubit: but the mouth thereof was round after the work of the base, a cubit and an half: and also upon the mouth of it were gravings with their borders, foursquare, not round. 32 And under the borders were four wheels; and the axletrees of the wheels were joined to the base: and the height of a wheel was a cubit and half a cubit.*7.32 joined…: Heb. in the base 33 And the work of the wheels was like the work of a chariot wheel: their axletrees, and their naves, and their felloes, and their spokes, were all molten. 34 And there were four undersetters to the four corners of one base: and the undersetters were of the very base itself. 35 And in the top of the base was there a round compass of half a cubit high: and on the top of the base the ledges thereof and the borders thereof were of the same. 36 For on the plates of the ledges thereof, and on the borders thereof, he graved cherubims, lions, and palm trees, according to the proportion of every one, and additions round about.*7.36 proportion: Heb. nakedness 37 After this manner he made the ten bases: all of them had one casting, one measure, and one size.
