1 Το εικοστό έβδομο έτος της βασιλείας του Ιεροβοάμ στον Ισραήλ, βασιλιάς στον Ιούδα έγινε ο Αζαρίας,*Αζαρίας. Βλ. υποσ. εις κεφ. 14:21. γιος του βασιλιά Αμασία, 2 σε ηλικία δεκαέξι ετών, και βασίλεψε πενήντα δύο χρόνια στην Ιερουσαλήμ. Η μητέρα του ονομαζόνταν Ιεχαλία και καταγόταν από την Ιερουσαλήμ. 3 Ο Αζαρίας έκανε το σωστό ενώπιον του Κυρίου, όπως ακριβώς είχε κάνει κι ο Αμασίας, ο πατέρας του. 4 Αλλά οι ιεροί τόποι δεν καταργήθηκαν και ο λαός πρόσφερε εκεί θυσίες και θυμιάματα.

5 Γι’ αυτό κι ο Κύριος έστειλε στο βασιλιά μια βαριά αρρώστια: Προσβλήθηκε από λέπρα κι έμεινε έτσι ως το θάνατό του. Ήταν αναγκασμένος να κάθεται σε απομόνωση, κι έτσι ο γιος του ο Ιωθάμ ήταν επικεφαλής του ανακτόρου και κυβερνούσε το λαό της χώρας.

6 Η υπόλοιπη ιστορία του Αζαρία και η δράση του είναι όλα καταχωρισμένα στο Βιβλίο των Χρονικών των βασιλιάδων του Ιούδα. 7 Ο Αζαρίας πέθανε και τον έθαψαν μαζί με τους προγόνους του στην Πόλη Δαβίδ. Στο θρόνο τον διαδέχτηκε ο γιος του ο Ιωθάμ.

8 Το τριακοστό όγδοο έτος της βασιλείας του Αζαρία στον Ιούδα, βασιλιάς του Ισραήλ, στη Σαμάρεια, έγινε για έξι μήνες ο Ζαχαρίας, γιος του Ιεροβοάμ. 9 Ο Ζαχαρίας έπραξε ό,τι δυσαρεστεί τον Κύριο, όπως είχαν κάνει και οι πρόγονοί του· δεν απέφυγε να επαναλάβει τις αμαρτίες του Ιεροβοάμ, γιου του Ναβάτ, ο οποίος είχε παρασύρει τον Ισραήλ να αμαρτήσει. 10 Εναντίον του συνωμότησε ο Σαλλούμ, γιος του Ιαβίς. Του επιτέθηκε στην Ιβλεάμ,*στην Ιβλεάμ, κατά τους Ο΄. Το εβρ. είναι ασαφές. τον σκότωσε και βασίλεψε αυτός στη θέση του.

11 Η υπόλοιπη ιστορία του Ζαχαρία είναι καταχωρισμένη στο Βιβλίο των Χρονικών των βασιλιάδων του Ισραήλ.

12 Έτσι εκπληρώθηκε ό,τι είχε πει ο Κύριος στον Ιηού: «Οι απόγονοί σου ως την τέταρτη γενιά θα καθίσουν στο θρόνο του Ισραήλ».

13 Ο Σαλλούμ, γιος του Ιαβίς, έγινε βασιλιάς το τριακοστό ένατο έτος της βασιλείας του Αζαρία στον Ιούδα, και βασίλεψε ένα μήνα στη Σαμάρεια. 14 Ο Μεναχέμ, γιος του Γαδί, ήρθε από την Τιρσά, μπήκε στη Σαμάρεια και νίκησε εκεί το Σαλλούμ. Τον σκότωσε και βασίλεψε αυτός στη θέση του.

15 Η υπόλοιπη ιστορία του Σαλλούμ και η συνωμοσία που έκανε, είναι όλα καταχωρισμένα στο Βιβλίο των Χρονικών των βασιλιάδων του Ισραήλ.

16 Μετά ο Μεναχέμ επιτέθηκε στην Τιρσά και σκότωσε όλους όσοι βρίσκονταν στην πόλη και στη γύρω περιοχή, γιατί δεν παραδίνονταν. Κατέστρεψε την πόλη και ξεκοίλιασε όλες τις έγκυες γυναίκες.

17 Ο Μεναχέμ, γιος του Γαδί, έγινε βασιλιάς του Ισραήλ στη Σαμάρεια, για δέκα χρόνια, το τριακοστό ένατο έτος της βασιλείας του Αζαρία στον Ιούδα. 18 Έπραξε ό,τι δυσαρεστεί τον Κύριο· δεν απέφυγε να επαναλάβει τις αμαρτίες του Ιεροβοάμ, γιου του Ναβάτ, ο οποίος είχε παρασύρει τον Ισραήλ να αμαρτήσει.

19 Τον καιρό της βασιλείας του, ο Φουλ, βασιλιάς της Ασσυρίας,*Σύμφωνα με ασσυριακές πηγές, ο Φουλ και ο Τιγλάθ-Πιλέσερ (στ. 29) είναι το ίδιο πρόσωπο. Η περίοδος της μεγάλης ισχύος της Ασσυρίας τοποθετείται μεταξύ 745 και 612 π.Χ. βγήκε σε εκστρατεία εναντίον της χώρας· κι ο Μεναχέμ του έδωσε χίλια τάλαντα ασήμι για να τον έχει με το μέρος του, ώστε να στερεώσει τη βασιλική εξουσία στα χέρια του. 20 Ο Μεναχέμ πήρε το ασήμι από το λαό του Ισραήλ, δηλαδή από όλους τους πλούσιους, πενήντα σίκλους ασήμι από τον καθέναν, και το έδωσε στο βασιλιά της Ασσυρίας. Έτσι αυτός έφυγε από τη χώρα για την πατρίδα του.

21 Η υπόλοιπη ιστορία του Μεναχέμ και η δράση του είναι όλα καταχωρισμένα στο Βιβλίο των Χρονικών των βασιλιάδων του Ισραήλ. 22 Όταν πέθανε ο Μεναχέμ, τον διαδέχτηκε στο θρόνο ο γιος του ο Πεκαχίας.

23 Το πεντηκοστό έτος της βασιλείας του Αζαρία στον Ιούδα, βασιλιάς του Ισραήλ στη Σαμάρεια έγινε ο Πεκαχίας, γιος του Μεναχέμ, για δύο χρόνια. 24 Αυτός έπραξε ό,τι δυσαρεστεί τον Κύριο· δεν απέφυγε να επαναλάβει τις αμαρτίες του Ιεροβοάμ, γιου του Ναβάτ, ο οποίος είχε παρασύρει το λαό του Ισραήλ να αμαρτήσει.

25 Συνωμότησε όμως εναντίον του ο υπασπιστής του ο Φεκάχ, γιος του Ρεμαλία, και τον σκότωσε στη Σαμάρεια, στον πύργο των ανακτόρων.*Στο σημείο αυτό το εβρ. προσθέτει τις λ. «Αργόβ» και «Αριέ», που η σημασία τους είναι αβέβαιη. Μαζί του ήταν και πενήντα Γαλααδίτες. Αφού τον σκότωσε, βασίλεψε αυτός στη θέση του.

27 Στο πεντηκοστό δεύτερο έτος της βασιλείας του Αζαρία στον Ιούδα, βασιλιάς του Ισραήλ στη Σαμάρεια έγινε ο Φεκάχ, γιος του Ρεμαλία, για είκοσι χρόνια. 28 Ο Φεκάχ έπραξε ό,τι δυσαρεστεί τον Κύριο· δεν απέφυγε να επαναλάβει τις αμαρτίες του Ιεροβοάμ, γιου του Ναβάτ, ο οποίος είχε παρασύρει το λαό Ισραήλ να αμαρτήσει.

29 Τον καιρό της βασιλείας του Φεκάχ στον Ισραήλ, ο βασιλιάς της Ασσυρίας*Βλ. υποσ. εις στ. 19. Τιγλάθ-Πιλέσερ, ήρθε και κυρίεψε την Ιιών, την Αβέλ-Βαιθ-Μααχά, την Ιανώχ, την Κεδές, την Ασώρ, τη Γαλαάδ, τη Γαλιλαία, όλη την περιοχή της φυλής Νεφθαλί. Τους κατοίκους των τους οδήγησε αιχμαλώτους στην Ασσυρία.

30 Τότε ο Ωσηέ, ο γιος του Ηλά, συνωμότησε εναντίον του Φεκάχ, γιου του Ρεμαλία, τον νίκησε και τον σκότωσε, κι έγινε αυτός βασιλιάς στη θέση του, το εικοστό έτος της βασιλείας του Ιωθάμ, γιου του Αζαρία.

32 Το δεύτερο έτος της βασιλείας στον Ισραήλ του Φεκάχ, γιου του Ρεμαλία, βασιλιάς στον Ιούδα έγινε ο Ιωθάμ, γιος του Αζαρία, βασιλιά του Ιούδα, 33 σε ηλικία είκοσι πέντε ετών. Βασίλεψε δεκαέξι χρόνια στην Ιερουσαλήμ· η μητέρα του ονομαζόταν Ιερουσά και ήταν κόρη του Σαδώκ. 34 Ο Ιωθάμ έπραξε το σωστό ενώπιον του Κυρίου, όπως ακριβώς είχε κάνει ο πατέρας του, ο Αζαρίας. 35 Αλλά οι ιεροί τόποι δεν καταργήθηκαν, και ο λαός συνέχιζε να προσφέρει εκεί θυσίες και θυμιάματα.

Αυτός έχτισε την άνω πύλη*Η «άνω πύλη» πιθανόν είναι η ίδια που αναφέρεται εις Ιερ 20:2 και Ιεζ 9:2. του ναού του Κυρίου. 36 Η υπόλοιπη ιστορία του Ιωθάμ και η δράση του είναι όλα γραμμένα στο Βιβλίο των Χρονικών των βασιλιάδων του Ιούδα. 37 Τον καιρό της βασιλείας του Ιωθάμ, ο Κύριος άρχισε να στέλνει εναντίον του βασιλείου του Ιούδα, τον Ρεσίν, βασιλιά των Συρίων, και τον Φεκάχ, γιο του Ρεμαλία.

38 Ο Ιωθάμ πέθανε κι ενταφιάστηκε με τους προγόνους του στην Πόλη Δαβίδ, του προπάτορά του. Στο θρόνο τον διαδέχτηκε ο γιος του ο Άχαζ.

1 In the twenty and seventh year of Jeroboam king of Israel began Azariah son of Amaziah king of Judah to reign.*15.1 Azariah: also called, Uzziah 2 Sixteen years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned two and fifty years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jecholiah of Jerusalem. 3 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD, according to all that his father Amaziah had done; 4 Save that the high places were not removed: the people sacrificed and burnt incense still on the high places.

5 And the LORD smote the king, so that he was a leper unto the day of his death, and dwelt in a several house. And Jotham the king’s son was over the house, judging the people of the land. 6 And the rest of the acts of Azariah, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 7 So Azariah slept with his fathers; and they buried him with his fathers in the city of David: and Jotham his son reigned in his stead.

8 In the thirty and eighth year of Azariah king of Judah did Zachariah the son of Jeroboam reign over Israel in Samaria six months. 9 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD, as his fathers had done: he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin. 10 And Shallum the son of Jabesh conspired against him, and smote him before the people, and slew him, and reigned in his stead. 11 And the rest of the acts of Zachariah, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel. 12 This was the word of the LORD which he spake unto Jehu, saying, Thy sons shall sit on the throne of Israel unto the fourth generation. And so it came to pass.

13 Shallum the son of Jabesh began to reign in the nine and thirtieth year of Uzziah king of Judah; and he reigned a full month in Samaria.*15.13 Uzziah: Gr. Ozias*15.13 a full…: Heb. a month of days 14 For Menahem the son of Gadi went up from Tirzah, and came to Samaria, and smote Shallum the son of Jabesh in Samaria, and slew him, and reigned in his stead. 15 And the rest of the acts of Shallum, and his conspiracy which he made, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.

16 Then Menahem smote Tiphsah, and all that were therein, and the coasts thereof from Tirzah: because they opened not to him, therefore he smote it; and all the women therein that were with child he ripped up. 17 In the nine and thirtieth year of Azariah king of Judah began Menahem the son of Gadi to reign over Israel, and reigned ten years in Samaria. 18 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not all his days from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin. 19 And Pul the king of Assyria came against the land: and Menahem gave Pul a thousand talents of silver, that his hand might be with him to confirm the kingdom in his hand. 20 And Menahem exacted the money of Israel, even of all the mighty men of wealth, of each man fifty shekels of silver, to give to the king of Assyria. So the king of Assyria turned back, and stayed not there in the land.*15.20 exacted: Heb. caused to come forth

23 In the fiftieth year of Azariah king of Judah Pekahiah the son of Menahem began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned two years. 24 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin. 25 But Pekah the son of Remaliah, a captain of his, conspired against him, and smote him in Samaria, in the palace of the king’s house, with Argob and Arieh, and with him fifty men of the Gileadites: and he killed him, and reigned in his room. 26 And the rest of the acts of Pekahiah, and all that he did, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.

27 In the two and fiftieth year of Azariah king of Judah Pekah the son of Remaliah began to reign over Israel in Samaria, and reigned twenty years. 28 And he did that which was evil in the sight of the LORD: he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin. 29 In the days of Pekah king of Israel came Tiglath-pileser king of Assyria, and took Ijon, and Abel-beth-maachah, and Janoah, and Kedesh, and Hazor, and Gilead, and Galilee, all the land of Naphtali, and carried them captive to Assyria. 30 And Hoshea the son of Elah made a conspiracy against Pekah the son of Remaliah, and smote him, and slew him, and reigned in his stead, in the twentieth year of Jotham the son of Uzziah. 31 And the rest of the acts of Pekah, and all that he did, behold, they are written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Israel.

32 In the second year of Pekah the son of Remaliah king of Israel began Jotham the son of Uzziah king of Judah to reign. 33 Five and twenty years old was he when he began to reign, and he reigned sixteen years in Jerusalem. And his mother’s name was Jerusha, the daughter of Zadok. 34 And he did that which was right in the sight of the LORD: he did according to all that his father Uzziah had done.

35 Howbeit the high places were not removed: the people sacrificed and burned incense still in the high places. He built the higher gate of the house of the LORD.

36 Now the rest of the acts of Jotham, and all that he did, are they not written in the book of the chronicles of the kings of Judah? 37 In those days the LORD began to send against Judah Rezin the king of Syria, and Pekah the son of Remaliah. 38 And Jotham slept with his fathers, and was buried with his fathers in the city of David his father: and Ahaz his son reigned in his stead.
