1,2 Στο τέλος κάθε έβδομου χρόνου θα κάνετε παραγραφή χρεών προς τιμήν του Κυρίου. Η διαδικασία της παραγραφής θα είναι η ακόλουθη:

Όταν θα κηρυχθεί παραγραφή, κάθε δανειστής που θα ’χει δανείσει σε κάποιον Ισραηλίτη, θα παραιτείται από το δικαίωμά του. Δεν θα πιέζει το συνάνθρωπό του, το συμπατριώτη του, να εξοφλήσει το χρέος του. 3 Από τον ξένο μπορείτε να απαιτήσετε το δάνειο. Αλλ’ αυτό που βρίσκεται στα χέρια του συμπατριώτη σας θα του το αφήνετε.

4 Ωστόσο, δεν θα υπάρχει φτωχός ανάμεσά σας, γιατί ο Κύριος, ο Θεός σας, το δίχως άλλο θα σας ευλογήσει στη χώρα, που σας δίνει για ιδιοκτησία σας. 5 Αρκεί μόνον να δίνετε προσοχή στα λόγια του και να φροντίζετε να εφαρμόζετε όλες αυτές τις εντολές, που εγώ σήμερα σας δίνω. 6 Ο Κύριος, ο Θεός σας, θα σας ευλογήσει σύμφωνα με την υπόσχεσή του. Τότε θα δανείζετε πολλά έθνη, αλλά εσείς δε θα χρειάζεται να δανείζεστε. Θα κυριαρχήσετε σε πολλά έθνη, αλλά κανείς δεν θα κυριαρχήσει πάνω σας.

7 Αν σε κάποια από τις πόλεις σας στη χώρα που θα σας δώσει ο Κύριος, ο Θεός σας, βρεθεί ένας φτωχός, μην του φερθείτε με σκληρότητα και του κλείσετε την καρδιά σας. 8 Ανοίξτε του διάπλατα το χέρι σας και δανείστε του γενναιόδωρα όσα χρειάζεται για τις ανάγκες του. 9 Προσέξτε, μη σκεφτείτε πονηρά, ότι πλησιάζει το σαββατικό έτος, που θα γίνει η παραγραφή, και φερθείτε σκληρά στον φτωχό συμπατριώτη σας και δεν του δανείσετε. Γιατί τότε εκείνος θα καταφύγει στον Κύριο εναντίον σας και οι ένοχοι θα είστε εσείς. 10 Να δανείζετε, λοιπόν, πλουσιοπάροχα, κι όχι με μισή καρδιά. Κι ο Κύριος, ο Θεός σας, θα σας ευλογήσει γι αυτή την πράξη σας σ’ όλα τα έργα με τα οποία θα καταπιάνεστε. 11 Κι επειδή οι φτωχοί δε θα λείψουν από τη χώρα σας, γι’ αυτό κι εγώ σας δίνω αυτή την προσταγή: να είστε γενναιόδωροι με τους φτωχούς και τους δυστυχισμένους συμπατριώτες σας που θα βρίσκονται στη χώρα σας.

12 Αν ένας ομοεθνής σας, Εβραίος ή Εβραία, πουληθεί σε κάποιον από σας, αυτός θα του δουλέψει για έξι χρόνια· τον έβδομο χρόνο ο κύριός του θα τον αφήσει ελεύθερο να φύγει από το σπίτι του. 13 Δε θα τον αφήσει όμως να φύγει με άδεια τα χέρια. 14 Θα του δώσει πάρα πολλά πρόβατα, κι άφθονο σιτάρι και κρασί, απ’ όλα με όσα ο Κύριος, ο Θεός του, τον ευλόγησε. 15 Ποτέ να μην ξεχάσετε ότι ήσασταν δούλοι στην Αίγυπτο, και σας ελευθέρωσε ο Κύριος, ο Θεός σας· γι’ αυτό εγώ σας δίνω σήμερα αυτή την εντολή.

16 Αν όμως ο δούλος πει στον κύριό του: «Δε θα φύγω από κοντά σου», επειδή αγαπάει αυτόν και την οικογένειά του και είναι ευχαριστημένος κοντά τους, 17 τότε ο κύριός του θα πάρει ένα τρυπητήρι και θα του τρυπήσει το αυτί μπροστά στην πόρτα του σπιτιού του, και θα είναι δούλος του για πάντα. Το ίδιο θα κάνει και για τη δούλη του. 18 Μη σας φανεί σκληρό που θ’ απελευθερώσετε το δούλο σας από το σπίτι σας· θα σας έχει δουλέψει έξι χρόνια, διπλάσιο δηλαδή απ’ ό,τι ο μισθωτός σας. Έτσι ο Κύριος ο Θεός σας θα ευλογήσει όλα σας τα έργα.

19 Κάθε πρωτογέννητο αρσενικό των βοδιών σας και των προβάτων σας, θα το αφιερώνετε στον Κύριο, το Θεό σας· δε θα μεταχειρίζεστε στις δουλειές σας τα πρωτογέννητα βόδια σας και δε θα κουρεύετε τα πρωτογέννητα πρόβατά σας. 20 Θα τα τρώτε κάθε χρόνο ενώπιον του Κυρίου του Θεού σας μαζί με τις οικογένειές σας, στον τόπο που εκείνος θα διαλέξει.

21 Αν όμως το ζώο έχει κάποιο σοβαρό ελάττωμα, είναι κουτσό ή τυφλό ή ό,τι άλλο, δε θα το θυσιάζετε στον Κύριο το Θεό σας. 22 Θα το τρώτε στις πόλεις σας και θα μπορεί να φάει και ο ακάθαρτος και ο καθαρός, όπως τρώτε το ζαρκάδι και το ελάφι.*όπως...ελάφι. Βλ. υποσ. εις κεφ. 12:15.23 Δε θα τρώτε όμως το αίμα. Θα το χύνετε στη γη, όπως το νερό.

7 If there be among you a poor man of one of thy brethren within any of thy gates in thy land which the LORD thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not harden thine heart, nor shut thine hand from thy poor brother: 8 But thou shalt open thine hand wide unto him, and shalt surely lend him sufficient for his need, in that which he wanteth. 9 Beware that there be not a thought in thy wicked heart, saying, The seventh year, the year of release, is at hand; and thine eye be evil against thy poor brother, and thou givest him nought; and he cry unto the LORD against thee, and it be sin unto thee.*15.9 thought: Heb. word*15.9 wicked: Heb. Belial 10 Thou shalt surely give him, and thine heart shall not be grieved when thou givest unto him: because that for this thing the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all thy works, and in all that thou puttest thine hand unto. 11 For the poor shall never cease out of the land: therefore I command thee, saying, Thou shalt open thine hand wide unto thy brother, to thy poor, and to thy needy, in thy land.

12 And if thy brother, an Hebrew man, or an Hebrew woman, be sold unto thee, and serve thee six years; then in the seventh year thou shalt let him go free from thee. 13 And when thou sendest him out free from thee, thou shalt not let him go away empty: 14 Thou shalt furnish him liberally out of thy flock, and out of thy floor, and out of thy winepress: of that wherewith the LORD thy God hath blessed thee thou shalt give unto him. 15 And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee: therefore I command thee this thing to day. 16 And it shall be, if he say unto thee, I will not go away from thee; because he loveth thee and thine house, because he is well with thee; 17 Then thou shalt take an aul, and thrust it through his ear unto the door, and he shall be thy servant for ever. And also unto thy maidservant thou shalt do likewise. 18 It shall not seem hard unto thee, when thou sendest him away free from thee; for he hath been worth a double hired servant to thee, in serving thee six years: and the LORD thy God shall bless thee in all that thou doest.

19 All the firstling males that come of thy herd and of thy flock thou shalt sanctify unto the LORD thy God: thou shalt do no work with the firstling of thy bullock, nor shear the firstling of thy sheep. 20 Thou shalt eat it before the LORD thy God year by year in the place which the LORD shall choose, thou and thy household. 21 And if there be any blemish therein, as if it be lame, or blind, or have any ill blemish, thou shalt not sacrifice it unto the LORD thy God. 22 Thou shalt eat it within thy gates: the unclean and the clean person shall eat it alike, as the roebuck, and as the hart. 23 Only thou shalt not eat the blood thereof; thou shalt pour it upon the ground as water.
