1 Αν δεις το βόδι του συμπατριώτη σου ή το αρνί του να περιπλανιέται, μην αδιαφορήσεις γι’ αυτό, αλλά να το οδηγήσεις οπωσδήποτε στον κάτοχό του. 2 Κι αν αυτός δε μένει κοντά σου ή δεν τον γνωρίζεις, θα το φέρεις στο σπίτι σου και θα το κρατήσεις κοντά σου, ωσότου ο κύριός του το αναζητήσει· τότε θα του το επιστρέψεις. 3 Το ίδιο θα κάνεις και για το γαϊδούρι του και για τα ρούχα του και για καθετί που ενδέχεται να χάσει ο συμπατριώτης σου και το βρεις εσύ. Δεν μπορείς ν’ αδιαφορήσεις.

4 Αν δεις το γαϊδούρι του συμπατριώτη σου ή το βόδι του πεσμένο στο δρόμο, μην αδιαφορήσεις· πρέπει οπωσδήποτε να τον βοηθήσεις να το σηκώσει.

5 Η γυναίκα δεν πρέπει να φοράει τα ρούχα του άντρα, ούτε ο άντρας τα ρούχα της γυναίκας. Όποιον κάνει αυτά τα πράγματα, τον αποστρέφεται ο Κύριος, ο Θεός σας.

6 Αν στο δρόμο σου συναντήσεις, είτε πάνω σε κάποιο δέντρο είτε καταγής, μια φωλιά με μικρά πουλιά ή με αυγά, με τη μητέρα τους να κάθεται πάνω τους, μην πάρεις τη μητέρα μαζί με τα πουλιά. 7 Πρέπει οπωσδήποτε ν’ αφήσεις τη μητέρα να φύγει και να πάρεις μόνο τα πουλιά, για να ευτυχήσεις και να ζήσεις πολλά χρόνια.

8 Όταν χτίσεις καινούριο σπίτι, να φτιάξεις στηθαίο γύρω στο δώμα σου, για να μην πέσει από ’κει κανείς και σκοτωθεί· και θα είσαι εσύ υπεύθυνος για το θάνατό του.

9 Μη φυτέψεις στο αμπέλι σου σπόρους άλλων φυτών, γιατί τότε όλη η παραγωγή και του αμπελιού και των φυτών, που έσπειρες, θα πρέπει ν’ αφιερωθεί στον Κύριο. 10 Μην οργώνεις μ’ ένα βόδι κι ένα γαϊδούρι ζεμένα μαζί. 11 Μη ντύνεσαι με ύφασμα φτιαγμένο από μαλλί και βαμβάκι μαζί.

12 Θα κάνεις κρόσσια στις τέσσερις άκρες του μανδύα που φοράς.

13 Ίσως κάποιος παντρευτεί μια γυναίκα και ενωθεί μαζί της αλλά αργότερα δεν τη θέλει άλλο, 14 κι αρχίσει να την κατηγορεί για τη συμπεριφορά της, και τη δυσφημεί λέγοντας: «παντρεύτηκα αυτή τη γυναίκα κι όταν την πλησίασα δεν τη βρήκα παρθένα». 15 Τότε ο πατέρας της νέας κι η μητέρα της θα πάρουν τις αποδείξεις της παρθενίας της και θα τις φέρουν στους πρεσβυτέρους της πόλης, στην πύλη. 16 Ο πατέρας της νέας θα πει στους πρεσβυτέρους: «Την κόρη μου την έδωσα σ’ αυτόν τον άντρα για γυναίκα, αλλά αυτός δεν τη θέλει πια. 17 Τώρα την κατηγορεί για ανήθικη συμπεριφορά και μου λέει ότι δεν την βρήκε παρθένα. Εδώ όμως είναι οι αποδείξεις της παρθενίας της κόρης μου» –και θ’ απλώσουν οι γονείς το σεντόνι μπροστά στους πρεσβυτέρους.

18 Τότε οι πρεσβύτεροι της πόλης θα συλλάβουν τον άντρα και θα τον μαστιγώσουν· 19 επιπλέον θα του επιβάλουν χρηματική ποινή εκατό σίκλους, που θα τους παραδώσει στον πατέρα της νέας, επειδή δυσφήμισε μια παρθένα Ισραηλίτισσα. Τέλος αυτή θα παραμείνει γυναίκα του για πάντα· δεν θα μπορεί να τη χωρίσει σ’ όλη του τη ζωή.

20 Αν όμως η κατηγορία αποδειχτεί αληθινή και δε βρεθούν οι αποδείξεις της παρθενίας της νέας, 21 τότε θα την οδηγήσουν μπροστά στην πόρτα του πατρικού της σπιτιού, και οι άντρες της πόλης της θα τη θανατώσουν με λιθοβολισμό, γιατί διέπραξε ατιμία μέσα στο λαό του Ισραήλ· είχε σχέσεις με άντρα, ενώ ακόμα έμενε στο πατρικό της σπίτι. Έτσι θα εξαλείψετε το κακό απ’ ανάμεσά σας.

22 Αν κάποιος πιαστεί να πλαγιάζει με παντρεμένη γυναίκα, τότε θα θανατωθούν και οι δυό. Έτσι θα εξαλείψετε το κακό μέσα από το λαό του Ισραήλ.

23 Αν ένας άντρας συναντήσει στην πόλη μια νέα παρθένα, αρραβωνιασμένη και πλαγιάσει μαζί της, 24 τότε θα τους βγάλουν και τους δύο στην πύλη της πόλης εκείνης και θα τους θανατώσουν με λιθοβολισμό· τη νέα, επειδή δεν φώναξε για βοήθεια, αν και βρισκόταν στην πόλη, και τον άντρα, επειδή ταπείνωσε τη γυναίκα του συνανθρώπου του. Έτσι θα εξαλείψετε το κακό απ’ ανάμεσά σας.

25 Αν, όμως, ο άντρας συναντήσει την αρραβωνιασμένη παρθένα έξω στα χωράφια και τη βιάσει, τότε θα θανατωθεί μόνον ο άντρας. 26 Στη νέα δεν θα κάνετε τίποτε· η νέα δεν διέπραξε αμαρτία που να τιμωρείται με θάνατο. Η περίπτωση αυτή είναι σαν του ανθρώπου που κάποιος του επιτίθεται και τον σκοτώνει. 27 Ο άντρας τη βρήκε στα χωράφια· η νέα μπορεί να φώναξε, αλλά να μην ήταν κανείς εκεί για να τη σώσει.

28 Αν ένας άντρας συναντήσει μια νέα που δεν είναι αρραβωνιασμένη, και τη βιάσει και τους ανακαλύψουν, 29 τότε ο άντρας που βίασε την κοπέλα, θα δώσει στον πατέρα της πενήντα ασημένιους σίκλους και θα την πάρει γυναίκα του, επειδή την ταπείνωσε· και σ’ όλη του τη ζωή δεν θα μπορεί να τη χωρίσει.

4 Thou shalt not see thy brother’s ass or his ox fall down by the way, and hide thyself from them: thou shalt surely help him to lift them up again.

5 The woman shall not wear that which pertaineth unto a man, neither shall a man put on a woman’s garment: for all that do so are abomination unto the LORD thy God.

6 If a bird’s nest chance to be before thee in the way in any tree, or on the ground, whether they be young ones, or eggs, and the dam sitting upon the young, or upon the eggs, thou shalt not take the dam with the young: 7 But thou shalt in any wise let the dam go, and take the young to thee; that it may be well with thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days.

8 When thou buildest a new house, then thou shalt make a battlement for thy roof, that thou bring not blood upon thine house, if any man fall from thence.

9 Thou shalt not sow thy vineyard with divers seeds: lest the fruit of thy seed which thou hast sown, and the fruit of thy vineyard, be defiled.*22.9 fruit of thy seed: Heb. fulness of the seed

10 Thou shalt not plow with an ox and an ass together.

11 Thou shalt not wear a garment of divers sorts, as of woollen and linen together.

12 Thou shalt make thee fringes upon the four quarters of thy vesture, wherewith thou coverest thyself.*22.12 quarters: Heb. wings

13 If any man take a wife, and go in unto her, and hate her, 14 And give occasions of speech against her, and bring up an evil name upon her, and say, I took this woman, and when I came to her, I found her not a maid: 15 Then shall the father of the damsel, and her mother, take and bring forth the tokens of the damsel’s virginity unto the elders of the city in the gate: 16 And the damsel’s father shall say unto the elders, I gave my daughter unto this man to wife, and he hateth her; 17 And, lo, he hath given occasions of speech against her, saying, I found not thy daughter a maid; and yet these are the tokens of my daughter’s virginity. And they shall spread the cloth before the elders of the city. 18 And the elders of that city shall take that man and chastise him; 19 And they shall amerce him in an hundred shekels of silver, and give them unto the father of the damsel, because he hath brought up an evil name upon a virgin of Israel: and she shall be his wife; he may not put her away all his days. 20 But if this thing be true, and the tokens of virginity be not found for the damsel: 21 Then they shall bring out the damsel to the door of her father’s house, and the men of her city shall stone her with stones that she die: because she hath wrought folly in Israel, to play the whore in her father’s house: so shalt thou put evil away from among you.

22 If a man be found lying with a woman married to an husband, then they shall both of them die, both the man that lay with the woman, and the woman: so shalt thou put away evil from Israel.

23 If a damsel that is a virgin be betrothed unto an husband, and a man find her in the city, and lie with her; 24 Then ye shall bring them both out unto the gate of that city, and ye shall stone them with stones that they die; the damsel, because she cried not, being in the city; and the man, because he hath humbled his neighbour’s wife: so thou shalt put away evil from among you.

25 But if a man find a betrothed damsel in the field, and the man force her, and lie with her: then the man only that lay with her shall die:*22.25 force: or, take strong hold of 26 But unto the damsel thou shalt do nothing; there is in the damsel no sin worthy of death: for as when a man riseth against his neighbour, and slayeth him, even so is this matter: 27 For he found her in the field, and the betrothed damsel cried, and there was none to save her.

28 If a man find a damsel that is a virgin, which is not betrothed, and lay hold on her, and lie with her, and they be found; 29 Then the man that lay with her shall give unto the damsel’s father fifty shekels of silver, and she shall be his wife; because he hath humbled her, he may not put her away all his days.

30 A man shall not take his father’s wife, nor discover his father’s skirt.
