1 Αυτά είναι τα λόγια με τα οποία ο Μωυσής, ο άνθρωπος του Θεού, ευλόγησε τους Ισραηλίτες, προτού πεθάνει:

2 Ο Κύριος ήρθε απ’ το Σινά

κι ανέτειλε για το λαό του απ’ το Σηείρ·

ακτινοβόλησε απ’ το όρος Φαράν

κι ήρθε με μυριάδες γύρω του αγγέλους,

στο χέρι του κρατώντας

τον νόμο τον φλεγόμενο.*Το δεύτερο τμήμα του στ. στα εβρ. είναι ασαφές.

3 Αληθινά, αγαπάει το λαό του.

Όλοι που του ανήκουν είναι στα χέρια του·

πέφτουν αυτοί στα πόδια του

τις προσταγές του να δεχτούν.

4 Νόμο μάς έδωσε ο Μωυσής,

το πιο πολύτιμο απόκτημα για την κοινότητα του Ιακώβ·

5 Ο Κύριος έγινε βασιλιάς στον Ισραήλ,

όταν οι αρχηγοί συγκεντρωθήκαν του λαού,

όταν εμαζευτήκαν οι φυλές του Ισραήλ.

Και συνέχισε ο Μωυσής:

6 «Να ζήσει ο Ρουβήν, ποτέ να μην πεθάνει,

παρ’ όλο που ο λαός του είν’ ολιγάριθμος».

7 Για τη φυλή Ιούδα είπε·

«Άκουσε, Κύριε, τη φωνή του Ιούδα

και φέρ’ τον στο λαό του.

Ας υπερασπιστεί τον εαυτό του με τα χέρια του.

Κι εσύ βοήθα τον ενάντια στους εχθρούς του».

8 Για τη φυλή Λευί είπε:

«Τα Θουμμίμ σου και τα Ουρίμ*Θουμμίμ...Ουρίμ. Βλ. υποσ. εις Εξ 28:30. σου, Κύριε,

στον όσιό σου τα εμπιστεύτηκες,

που τον δοκίμασες στη Μασσά,

και που μαζί του φιλονίκησες

κοντά στα νερά της Μεριβά.

9 Αυτός είπε:

"πατέρα και μάνα εγώ δεν ξέρω"

κι ούτε τ’ αδέρφια του λογάριασε,

και τα παιδιά του τα αγνόησε,

για να τηρήσει την εντολή σου,

και φύλαξε έτσι τη διαθήκη σου.

10 Τις εντολές σου θα διδάξουν στον Ιακώβ,

στον Ισραήλ το νόμο σου.

Λιβάνι θα προσφέρουνε μπροστά σου

και στο θυσιαστήριό σου ολοκαύτωμα.

11 Ευλόγησε τα υπάρχοντά του Κύριε,

και κοίταξε με ευμένεια τα έργα του.

Τσάκισε των εχθρών του τα πλευρά,

ώστε να μην ξεσηκωθούν ενάντιά του

αυτοί που τον μισούν.

12 Για τη φυλή Βενιαμίν ο Μωυσής είπε:

«Ο αγαπημένος του Κυρίου,

με ασφάλεια κοντά του θα κατοικεί,

ο Κύριος θα τον προστατεύει την κάθε μέρα,

κι ανάμεσα στους ώμους του ο Κύριος θ’ αναπαύεται».

13 Για τη φυλή του Ιωσήφ*Εδώ οι φυλές Εφραΐμ και Μανασσή ενοποιούνται στο πρόσωπο του κοινού γενάρχη τους, του Ιωσήφ. είπε:

«Ευλογημένη από τον Κύριο είναι η χώρα του

με τα καλύτερα του ουρανού τα δώρα,

με τη δροσιά,

και τα υπόγεια νερά της,

14 με τους καλύτερους καρπούς που ωρίμασαν στον ήλιο,

με τα καλύτερα δώρα όλων των εποχών,

15 με τα εκλεκτότερα αγαθά των πανάρχαιων βουνών

και τα καλύτερα των αιώνιων λόφων,

16 με τα καλύτερα τα δώρα ολόκληρης της γης.

Η αγάπη εκείνου που φανερώθηκε στη βάτο,

ας έρθει πάνω στο κεφάλι του Ιωσήφ

στην κορυφή του εκλεκτού απ’ όλα του τ’ αδέρφια.

17 Είν’ η μεγαλοπρέπειά του σαν του ταύρου του πρωτογέννητου

και σαν τα κέρατα του αγριόταυρου τα κέρατά του·

μ’ αυτά θα χτυπάει τους λαούς,

όλους μαζί ως της γης τα πέρατα.

Τέτοιες είναι οι μυριάδες του Εφραΐμ

και τέτοιες είναι του Μανασσή οι χιλιάδες».

18 Για τη φυλή Ζαβουλών ο Μωυσής είπε:

«Να ευφραίνεσαι, Ζαβουλών, στις περιοδείες σου

κι εσύ, Ισσάχαρ, στις σκηνές σου.

19 Στο βουνό θα καλούν ξένους λαούς

και θα προσφέρουν εκεί κανονικές θυσίες.

Τον πλούτο θα ρουφούν της θάλασσας,

και τους κρυμμένους θησαυρούς στην άμμο».

20 Για τη φυλή Γαδ είπε:

«Ευλογημένος να ’ναι ο Κύριος,

που πλάτος έδωσε στου Γαδ τη χώρα!

Ο Γαδ σαν το λιοντάρι αναπαύεται,

τη λεία του έτοιμος να ξεσκίσει, ποδάρι ή κεφαλή.

21 Για τον εαυτό του διάλεξε το πρώτο το μερίδιο,

αυτό που ήταν φυλαγμένο για τον αρχηγό.

Σύναξε του λαού τους άρχοντες,

κι εκπλήρωσε το σχέδιο του Κυρίου

και τα προστάγματά του για τον Ισραήλ».

22 Για τη φυλή Δαν ο Μωυσής είπε:

«Ο Δαν είν’ ένα λιονταράκι, που εξορμάει απ’ τη Βασάν».

23 Για τη φυλή Νεφθαλί είπε:

«Είσαι χορτάτος, Νεφθαλί, από εύνοιες,

ξέχειλος απ’ τις ευλογίες του Κυρίου·

τη λίμνη*Εννοείται η λίμνη της Γεννησαρέτ. και τον νότο πάρε κληρονομιά».

24 Για τη φυλή Ασήρ ο Μωυσής είπε:

«Από τους γιους ο πιο ευλογημένος να ’ναι ο Ασήρ·

ας είναι ο πιο αγαπημένος απ’ τους αδερφούς του·

στο λάδι ας κολυμπάει το πόδι σου.

25 Από χαλκό και σίδερο ας είναι των πυλών σου οι μοχλοί

κι όσο θα ζεις, να διαρκεί το σφρίγος σου.

26 »Κανείς θεός δεν είναι σαν το Θεό σου, Ισραήλ,

που δρασκελάει τους ουρανούς για να σε βοηθήσει

κι ιππεύει τις νεφέλες σ’ όλη του τη μεγαλοπρέπεια.

27 Ο Θεός ο αιώνιος είναι το καταφύγιό σου,

και στήριγμά σου οι αιώνιοι βραχίονες.

Έδιωξε αυτός από μπροστά σου τον εχθρό

και σου ’δωσε την προσταγή: "εξολόθρευε!"

28 Ο Ισραήλ είν’ εγκατεστημένος με ασφάλεια·

η πηγή του Ιακώβ κυλάει ξέχωρα,

πάει σε χώρα πλούσια σε στάρι και κρασί

που οι ουρανοί της τη δροσιά σταλάζουν.

29 Ευτυχισμένος είσ’ εσύ, Ισραήλ!

Ποιος είναι σαν εσέ λαός, που σ’ έχει σώσει ο Κύριος;

Αυτός είν’ η ασπίδα που σε προστατεύει,

το ξίφος που σου δίνει υπεροχή!

Άδικα θα σε κολακεύουν οι εχθροί σου·

εσύ θα την ποδοπατήσεις την υψηλοφροσύνη τους».

6 Let Reuben live, and not die; and let not his men be few.

7 And this is the blessing of Judah: and he said, Hear, LORD, the voice of Judah, and bring him unto his people: let his hands be sufficient for him; and be thou an help to him from his enemies.

8 And of Levi he said, Let thy Thummim and thy Urim be with thy holy one, whom thou didst prove at Massah, and with whom thou didst strive at the waters of Meribah; 9 Who said unto his father and to his mother, I have not seen him; neither did he acknowledge his brethren, nor knew his own children: for they have observed thy word, and kept thy covenant. 10 They shall teach Jacob thy judgments, and Israel thy law: they shall put incense before thee, and whole burnt sacrifice upon thine altar.*33.10 They shall teach: or, Let them teach*33.10 they shall put: or, let them put*33.10 before…: Heb. at thy nose 11 Bless, LORD, his substance, and accept the work of his hands: smite through the loins of them that rise against him, and of them that hate him, that they rise not again.

12 And of Benjamin he said, The beloved of the LORD shall dwell in safety by him; and the Lord shall cover him all the day long, and he shall dwell between his shoulders.

13 And of Joseph he said, Blessed of the LORD be his land, for the precious things of heaven, for the dew, and for the deep that coucheth beneath, 14 And for the precious fruits brought forth by the sun, and for the precious things put forth by the moon,*33.14 put: Heb. thrust*33.14 moon: Heb. moons 15 And for the chief things of the ancient mountains, and for the precious things of the lasting hills, 16 And for the precious things of the earth and fulness thereof, and for the good will of him that dwelt in the bush: let the blessing come upon the head of Joseph, and upon the top of the head of him that was separated from his brethren. 17 His glory is like the firstling of his bullock, and his horns are like the horns of unicorns: with them he shall push the people together to the ends of the earth: and they are the ten thousands of Ephraim, and they are the thousands of Manasseh.*33.17 unicorns: Heb. an unicorn

18 And of Zebulun he said, Rejoice, Zebulun, in thy going out; and, Issachar, in thy tents. 19 They shall call the people unto the mountain; there they shall offer sacrifices of righteousness: for they shall suck of the abundance of the seas, and of treasures hid in the sand.

20 And of Gad he said, Blessed be he that enlargeth Gad: he dwelleth as a lion, and teareth the arm with the crown of the head. 21 And he provided the first part for himself, because there, in a portion of the lawgiver, was he seated; and he came with the heads of the people, he executed the justice of the LORD, and his judgments with Israel.*33.21 seated: Heb. cieled

22 And of Dan he said, Dan is a lion’s whelp: he shall leap from Bashan.

23 And of Naphtali he said, O Naphtali, satisfied with favour, and full with the blessing of the LORD: possess thou the west and the south.

24 And of Asher he said, Let Asher be blessed with children; let him be acceptable to his brethren, and let him dip his foot in oil. 25 Thy shoes shall be iron and brass; and as thy days, so shall thy strength be.*33.25 Thy shoes: or, Under thy shoes

26 There is none like unto the God of Jeshurun, who rideth upon the heaven in thy help, and in his excellency on the sky. 27 The eternal God is thy refuge, and underneath are the everlasting arms: and he shall thrust out the enemy from before thee; and shall say, Destroy them. 28 Israel then shall dwell in safety alone: the fountain of Jacob shall be upon a land of corn and wine; also his heavens shall drop down dew. 29 Happy art thou, O Israel: who is like unto thee, O people saved by the LORD, the shield of thy help, and who is the sword of thy excellency! and thine enemies shall be found liars unto thee; and thou shalt tread upon their high places.*33.29 found…: or, subdued
