1 Αν κάποιος πάρει μια γυναίκα και παντρευτούν αλλά αργότερα την αντιπαθήσει, επειδή βρήκε σ’ αυτήν κάποιον ψόγο, τότε μπορεί να της εγχειρίσει ένα έγγραφο διαζυγίου και να τη διώξει από το σπίτι του. 2 Αν αυτή, αφού φύγει από το σπίτι του, πάει και παντρευτεί άλλον άντρα, 3 και ο δεύτερος αυτός άντρας πάψει να την αγαπάει και της εγχειρίσει ένα έγγραφο διαζυγίου και τη διώξει από το σπίτι του, ή αν αυτός πεθάνει, 4 τότε ο πρώτος της άντρας, που την είχε διώξει, δεν μπορεί να την ξαναπάρει πάλι γυναίκα του, επειδή θεωρείται ακάθαρτη. Θα ήταν πράξη βδελυρή για τον Κύριο, το Θεό σας, και δεν πρέπει να μολύνετε με αμαρτία τη χώρα, που αυτός σας δίνει για ιδιοκτησία.

5 Όταν είναι κανείς νιόπαντρος, δε θα πηγαίνει στην εκστρατεία και δε θα του ανατίθεται καμιά δημόσια υπηρεσία· για ένα χρόνο θα είναι ελεύθερος, για να μείνει σπίτι του και να κάνει ευτυχισμένη τη γυναίκα που πήρε.

6 Να μην πάρει κανείς για ενέχυρο το χερόμυλο ή έστω και την πάνω πέτρα του, γιατί είναι σαν να παίρνει για ενέχυρο την ίδια τη ζωή.

7 Αν κανείς από τους Ισραηλίτες απαγάγει έναν ομοεθνή του και τον κάνει σκλάβο του ή τον πουλήσει για δούλο, τότε ο απαγωγέας θα θανατώνεται. Έτσι θα εξαλείψετε το κακό απ’ ανάμεσά σας.

8 Να προσέχετε τις πληγές των δερματικών νόσων· να φροντίζετε να τηρείτε με σχολαστικότητα όλες τις οδηγίες που θα σας διδάξουν οι ιερείς-Λευίτες, σύμφωνα με όσα τους έχω διατάξει. 9 Θυμηθείτε τι έκανε ο Κύριος ο Θεός σας στη Μαριάμ, στο δρόμο, όταν βγήκατε απ’ την Αίγυπτο.

10 Αν δώσεις στο συμπατριώτη σου ένα δάνειο, μη μπεις μέσα στο σπίτι του όταν πας να του πάρεις το ενέχυρο. 11 Θα σταθείς έξω, κι ο οφειλέτης θα σου φέρει έξω το ενέχυρο. 12 Αν ο άνθρωπος αυτός είναι φτωχός, και σου έδωσε ως ενέχυρο το πανωφόρι του, εσύ μην το κρατήσεις όλη τη νύχτα. 13 Πρέπει το δίχως άλλο να του το επιστρέψεις με τη δύση του ήλιου, για να μπορέσει να τυλιχτεί μέσα στο πανωφόρι του και να κοιμηθεί. Θα σε ευγνωμονεί μετά, κι αυτό θα υπολογιστεί για δίκαιη πράξη από τον Κύριο το Θεό σου.

14 Μην εκμεταλλεύεσαι ποτέ τον μισθωτό, το δυστυχισμένο και το φτωχό συμπατριώτη σου ή τον ξένο που ζει σε μια από τις πόλεις της χώρας σου. 15 Να του δίνεις κάθε μέρα το ημερομίσθιό του, πριν απ’ τη δύση του ήλιου· γιατί είναι φτωχός και το έχει ανάγκη. Αλλιώς αυτός θα φωνάξει με αγανάκτηση εναντίον σου στον Κύριο, κι αυτό θα σου καταλογιστεί για αμαρτία.

16 Δεν πρέπει να τιμωρούνται με θάνατο οι γονείς για τις αμαρτίες των παιδιών τους, ούτε τα παιδιά για τις αμαρτίες των γονιών τους. Ο καθένας θα τιμωρείται με θάνατο μόνο για τη δική του αμαρτία.

17 Μη διαστρεβλώνεις το δίκιο του ξένου ή του ορφανού, και μην παίρνεις για ενέχυρο το φόρεμα της χήρας· 18 να θυμόσαστε ότι κάποτε ήσασταν δούλοι στην Αίγυπτο και σας λύτρωσε από ’κει ο Κύριος, ο Θεός σας· γι’ αυτό κι εγώ σας διατάζω να τηρείτε αυτή την εντολή.

19 Όταν θερίζετε τη σοδειά σας και λησμονήσετε ένα χερόβολο στάχυα στο χωράφι, μη γυρίσετε να το πάρετε· αυτό είναι για τον ξένο, το ορφανό και τη χήρα· έτσι θα σας ευλογεί ο Κύριος, ο Θεός σας, σ’ ό,τι κι αν καταπιανόσαστε. 20 Το ίδιο όταν ραβδίζετε τις ελιές σας: μην ξαναγυρνάτε να μαζέψετε τον ξεχασμένο καρπό· ό,τι απόμεινε είναι για τον ξένο, το ορφανό και την χήρα. 21 Τέλος όταν τρυγάτε το αμπέλι σας, μην ξαναπερνάτε ανάμεσα στα κλήματα για να μαζέψετε τα ξεχασμένα τσαμπιά. Όσα έμειναν είναι για τον ξένο, το ορφανό και τη χήρα. 22 Να θυμάστε ότι ήσασταν δούλοι στην Αίγυπτο. Γι’ αυτό κι εγώ σας διατάζω να τηρείτε αυτή την εντολή.

5 When a man hath taken a new wife, he shall not go out to war, neither shall he be charged with any business: but he shall be free at home one year, and shall cheer up his wife which he hath taken.*24.5 neither…: Heb. not any thing shall pass upon him

6 No man shall take the nether or the upper millstone to pledge: for he taketh a man’s life to pledge.

7 If a man be found stealing any of his brethren of the children of Israel, and maketh merchandise of him, or selleth him; then that thief shall die; and thou shalt put evil away from among you.

8 Take heed in the plague of leprosy, that thou observe diligently, and do according to all that the priests the Levites shall teach you: as I commanded them, so ye shall observe to do. 9 Remember what the LORD thy God did unto Miriam by the way, after that ye were come forth out of Egypt.

10 When thou dost lend thy brother any thing, thou shalt not go into his house to fetch his pledge.*24.10 lend…: Heb. lend the loan of any thing to, etc 11 Thou shalt stand abroad, and the man to whom thou dost lend shall bring out the pledge abroad unto thee. 12 And if the man be poor, thou shalt not sleep with his pledge: 13 In any case thou shalt deliver him the pledge again when the sun goeth down, that he may sleep in his own raiment, and bless thee: and it shall be righteousness unto thee before the LORD thy God.

14 Thou shalt not oppress an hired servant that is poor and needy, whether he be of thy brethren, or of thy strangers that are in thy land within thy gates: 15 At his day thou shalt give him his hire, neither shall the sun go down upon it; for he is poor, and setteth his heart upon it: lest he cry against thee unto the LORD, and it be sin unto thee.*24.15 setteth…: Heb. lifteth his soul unto it 16 The fathers shall not be put to death for the children, neither shall the children be put to death for the fathers: every man shall be put to death for his own sin.

17 Thou shalt not pervert the judgment of the stranger, nor of the fatherless; nor take a widow’s raiment to pledge: 18 But thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in Egypt, and the LORD thy God redeemed thee thence: therefore I command thee to do this thing.

19 When thou cuttest down thine harvest in thy field, and hast forgot a sheaf in the field, thou shalt not go again to fetch it: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow: that the LORD thy God may bless thee in all the work of thine hands. 20 When thou beatest thine olive tree, thou shalt not go over the boughs again: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.*24.20 go…: Heb. bough it after thee 21 When thou gatherest the grapes of thy vineyard, thou shalt not glean it afterward: it shall be for the stranger, for the fatherless, and for the widow.*24.21 afterward: Heb. after thee 22 And thou shalt remember that thou wast a bondman in the land of Egypt: therefore I command thee to do this thing.
