1 Naquele dia o Senhor ferirá, com sua espada pesada, grande e forte, Leviatã, o dragão fugaz, Leviatã, o dragão tortuoso; e matará o monstro que está no mar.2 Naquele dia se dirá: Cantai a bela vinha!3 Eu, o Senhor, sou o vinhateiro; no momento oportuno eu a rego, a fim de que seus sarmentos não murchem. Dia e noite eu a vigio,4 e nada tenho contra ela. Se nela crescerem sarças e espinhos, eu lhes farei guerra e os queimarei a todos,5 a menos que se coloquem sob minha proteção, que façam a paz comigo, que façam comigo a paz!6 Um dia Jacó lançará raízes, Israel produzirá flores e botões, e eles cobrirão o mundo de frutos.7 Porventura {o Senhor} os feriu como feriu aqueles que os feriam? Massacrou-os como massacrou aqueles que os massacravam?8 Ele operou justiça, mediante a expulsão e o exílio deles, arrebatando-os com seu sopro impetuoso como o vento do Oriente.9 Assim foi expiado o crime de Jacó, e este é o resultado do perdão de seu pecado: ele quebrou as pedras dos altares, como se trituram as pedras de cal; as estacas sagradas e os monumentos ao sol não se erguem mais,10 porque a cidade forte é agora uma solidão, uma morada abandonada como o deserto. Aí vêm pastar os bois e aí pernoitam e comem os seus ramos.11 Tão logo os galhos secos se quebram, as mulheres vêm e lhes põem fogo. É um povo sem compreensão, por isso seu Criador não tem piedade dele, aquele que o formou não lhe dá nenhum perdão.12 Naquele tempo o Senhor malhará o trigo desde o leito do rio até a torrente do Egito. E vós sereis apanhados um a um, filhos de Israel.13 Naquele tempo soará a grande trombeta. E serão vistos chegar os exilados da terra da Assíria, e os fugitivos espalhados pela terra do Egito. Eles adorarão o Senhor no monte santo, em Jerusalém.

1 In that day the LORD with his sore and great and strong sword shall visit [punishment] upon leviathan the fleeing serpent, and upon leviathan that serpent of double vision; and he shall slay the dragon that [is] in the sea.2 In that day sing ye unto the vineyard of the red wine.3 I the LORD do keep it; I will water it every moment: lest [the enemy] visit it, I will keep it night and day.4 Fury [is] not in me: who would set the briers [and] thorns against me in battle? I would tread them down, I would burn them together.5 Or [who] shall take hold of my strength? Make peace with me, yea, make peace with me.6 [Days] shall come when Jacob shall take root: Israel shall blossom and bud, and the face of the world shall be filled with fruit.7 Has he been smitten as he who smote him? [or] has he been slain as those who slew him?8 In measure, she shall be chastised in her stalks: he stays his rough wind in the day of the east wind.9 Therefore, in this manner shall the iniquity of Jacob be purged; and this [shall be] all the fruit, the removal of his sin; when [he] shall return all the stones of the altar, as chalkstones that are beaten in sunder that they may not raise up the groves, or the images of the sun.10 Otherwise the defenced city [shall be] made desolate, [and] the habitation shall be forsaken and left like a wilderness: there shall the calf feed, and there shall he lie down and consume the branches thereof.11 When its boughs are withered, they shall be broken off: women shall come [and] set them on fire: for this [is] not a people of understanding: therefore he that made them will not have mercy on them, and he that formed them will show them no favour.12 And it shall come to pass in that day [that] the LORD shall smite from the channel of the river [Euphrates] unto the stream of Egypt, and ye shall be gathered one by one, O ye sons of Israel.13 And it shall come to pass in that day [that] the great shofar shall be blown, and those who were ready to perish in the land of Assyria and the outcasts in the land of Egypt shall come and worship the LORD in the holy mount at Jerusalem.:
