1 Ai daqueles que vão ao Egito buscar socorros, e que contam com a cavalaria, que se fiam no número de carros e no valor dos cavaleiros, em vez de voltarem seus olhares para o Santo de Israel e de consultarem o Senhor.2 Entretanto, ele também é sábio, e faz vir o mal; não retira sua palavra, e se ergue contra a casa dos maus, e contra a ajuda daqueles que fazem o mal.3 O egípcio é homem e não deus, seus cavalos são carne e não espírito. Quando o Senhor estender a mão, o protetor cambaleará e o protegido cairá. E eles perecerão conjuntamente.4 Eis, pois, o que me diz o Senhor: Assim como ruge um leão, um jovem leão que defende sua presa, ainda que se congregue contra ele um tropel de pastores, sem se deixar intimidar pelos seus gritos, e sem recuar diante do número, assim o Senhor dos exércitos descerá ao combate, sobre o monte de Sião e sobre sua colina.5 Como aves que voam, o Senhor dos exércitos protegerá Jerusalém, pondo-a ao abrigo, libertando-a, poupando e salvando.6 Voltai, pois, filhos de Israel, àquele de quem estais tão profundamente separados.7 Naquele dia cada um lançará fora seus ídolos de prata e seus ídolos de ouro, obras de vossas mãos criminosas.8 O assírio cairá sob os golpes de uma espada que não é de homem, uma espada que não é de um mortal e fará dele sua presa. Ele fugirá diante da espada, e seus jovens guerreiros serão subjugados.9 Seu rochedo desaparecerá de terror, seus chefes, espavoridos, abandonarão seu estandarte. Palavra do Senhor, cujo fogo está em Sião, e a fornalha em Jerusalém.

1 Woe to those that go down to Egypt for help; and trust in horses and place their hope in chariots because [they are] many and in horsemen, because they are valiant, but they did not look unto the Holy One of Israel, neither did they seek the LORD!2 Yet he also [is] wise to guide evil and will not cause his words to lie but will arise against the house of the evildoers and against the help of those that work iniquity.3 Now the Egyptian is a man, and not God and his horses flesh, and not spirit, so that as the LORD shall stretch out his hand, both he that helps shall fall, and he that is helped shall fall down, and they shall all fail together.4 For thus has the LORD spoken unto me, Like the lion and the young lion roaring on his prey, even if a multitude of shepherds come forth against him, [he] will not be afraid of their voices, nor abase himself for the noise of them: so shall the LORD of the hosts come down to fight for Mount Zion and for his hill.5 As birds flying, so will the LORD of the hosts defend Jerusalem; defending, delivering, passing over, and saving [it].6 Turn ye unto him against whom [ye] have deeply revolted, O sons of Israel.7 For in that day [every] man shall cast away his idols of silver, and his idols of gold, which your own hands have made unto you as a sin.8 Then the Assyrian shall fall by the sword, not of a mighty man; and the sword, not of a mean man, shall devour him: but he shall flee from the presence of the sword, and his young men shall faint.9 And he shall pass over to his strong hold for fear, and his princes shall be afraid of the banner, saith the LORD, unto whom [there is] fire in Zion, and unto whom [there is a] furnace in Jerusalem.:
