1 Eu quero cantar para o meu amigo seu canto de amor a respeito de sua vinha: meu amigo possuía uma vinha num outeiro fértil.2 Ele a cavou e tirou dela as pedras; plantou-a de cepas escolhidas. Edificou-lhe uma torre no meio, e construiu aí um lagar. E contava com uma colheita de uvas, mas ela só produziu agraço.3 E agora, habitantes de Jerusalém, e vós, homens de Judá, sede juízes entre mim e minha vinha.4 Que se poderia fazer por minha vinha, que eu não tenha feito? Por que, quando eu esperava vê-la produzir uvas, só deu agraço?5 Pois bem, mostrar-vos-ei agora o que hei de fazer à minha vinha: arrancar-lhe-ei a sebe para que ela sirva de pasto, derrubarei o muro para que seja pisada.6 Eu a farei devastada; não será podada nem cavada, e nela crescerão apenas sarças e espinhos; vedarei às nuvens derramar chuva sobre ela.7 A vinha do Senhor dos exércitos é a casa de Israel, e os homens de Judá são a planta de sua predileção. Esperei deles a prática da justiça, e eis o sangue derramado; esperei a retidão, e eis os gritos de socorro.8 Ai de vós, que ajuntais casa a casa, e que acrescentais campo a campo, até que não haja mais lugar, e que sejais os únicos proprietários da terra.9 Os meus ouvidos ouviram ainda este juramento do Senhor dos exércitos: Grande número de casas, eu o juro, será devastado, grandes e magníficas herdades ficarão desabitadas.10 Dez jeiras de vinha não produzirão mais que um bato, e um homer de semente não dará mais que um efá.11 Ai daqueles que desde a manhã procuram a bebida, e que se retardam à noite nas excitações do vinho!12 Amantes da cítara e da harpa, do tamborim e da flauta, e do vinho em seus banquetes, mas para as obras do Senhor não têm um olhar sequer, e não enxergam a obra de suas mãos.13 Por causa disso meu povo será desterrado sem nada pressentir. Sua nobreza será atenazada pela fome, e a multidão, mirrada pela sede.14 Por isso a morada dos mortos se alargará, e abrirá desmesuradamente a boca. O esplendor {de Sião} e sua multidão barulhenta, seu alvoroço e sua alegria desaparecerão dela.15 O homem será curvado, os grandes serão humilhados, os olhares altivos serão abatidos,16 e o Senhor dos exércitos triunfará no juízo; o Deus santo mostrar-se-á como tal, fazendo justiça.17 Os cordeiros serão apascentados nesses lugares como em suas pastagens, e sobre as ruínas pastarão os cabritos.18 Ai daqueles que arrastam a correção com as cordas da indisciplina, e a pena do pecado como com os tirantes de um carro!19 {Ai} daqueles que dizem: Que ele se avie, que faça já sua obra, a fim de que a vejamos. Que o plano do Santo de Israel se execute para que o conheçamos!20 Ai daqueles que ao mal chamam bem, e ao bem, mal, que mudam as trevas em luz e a luz em trevas, que tornam doce o que é amargo, e amargo o que é doce!21 Ai daqueles que são sábios aos próprios olhos, e prudentes em seu próprio juízo!22 Ai daqueles que põem sua bravura em beber vinho, e sua coragem em misturar licores;23 {ai} daqueles que, por uma dádiva, absolvem o culpado, e negam justiça àquele que tem o direito a seu lado!24 Por isso, assim como a palhoça é devorada por uma língua de fogo, e como a palha é consumida pela chama, assim a raiz deles sucumbirá na podridão e sua flor voará como a poeira, porque repudiaram a lei do Senhor dos exércitos, e desprezaram a palavra do Santo de Israel.25 Por isso o furor do Senhor se inflama contra seu povo, apodera-se dele e o castiga; os montes tremem, seus cadáveres, como carniça, jazem nas ruas. Entretanto, sua cólera não se aplacou, e sua mão está prestes a precipitar-se.26 Ele arvora uma bandeira para chamar uma nação longínqua, assobia para fazê-la vir dos confins da terra, e ei-la que, ágil, acorre às pressas.27 Ninguém dentre eles se arrasta ou tropeça, ninguém dorme nem cochila; ninguém desata a cinta de seus rins, nem desaperta a correia dos sapatos.28 Agudas são as suas flechas e todos os seus arcos, entesados. Os cascos de seus cavalos são {duros} como a pederneira, e as rodas de seus carros assemelham-se à tempestade.29 É {como} o rugido da leoa, e o rosnar do leãozinho. Ele brame e agarra a sua presa, e a carrega sem que ninguém lha arrebate.30 Naquele tempo, um estrondo, semelhante ao bramido do mar, retumbará contra ele. Quando olhar a terra, só verá trevas e angústia, e no céu se estenderão nuvens tenebrosas.

1 Now will I sing to my well-beloved a song of my beloved touching his vineyard. My well-beloved had a vineyard in the horn of the sons of oil;2 and he had fenced it and gathered out the stones thereof and planted it with the choicest vine and built a tower in the midst of it and also made a winepress therein; and he looked that it should bring forth grapes, and it brought forth wild grapes.3 And now, O inhabitants of Jerusalem, and men of Judah, judge, I pray you, between me and my vineyard.4 What could have been done more to my vineyard, that I have not done in it? Therefore, when I looked that it should bring forth grapes, did it bring forth wild grapes?5 And now go to; I will tell you what I will do to my vineyard: I will take away its hedge, and it shall be eaten up; [and] break down its wall, and it shall be trodden down:6 And I will lay it waste; it shall not be pruned, nor hoed; but briers and thorns shall come up there; I will even command the clouds that they rain no rain upon it.7 For the vineyard of the LORD of the hosts [is] the house of Israel and every man of Judah his pleasant plant; and he looked for judgment, but behold oppression; for righteousness, but behold a cry.8 Woe unto those that join house to house [that] lay field to field until they have done away with the borders! Will ye dwell alone in the midst of the earth?9 In my ears, the LORD of the hosts [said], Of a truth many houses shall be desolate, [even] great and fair, without inhabitant.10 For ten acres of vineyard shall yield one bath, and the seed of a homer shall yield an ephah.11 Woe unto them that rise up early in the morning [that] they may continue their drunkenness; that continue until night [until] wine inflames them!12 And the harp and the viol, the tambourine and flutes and wine are in their feasts; but they do not regard the work of the LORD, nor consider the work of his hands.13 Therefore my people are gone into captivity because [they have] no knowledge; their glory died of hunger, and their multitude dried up of thirst.14 Therefore Sheol has enlarged himself and opened his mouth without measure; and their glory, and their multitude descended into it and their pomp and he that rejoiced in him.15 And the mean man shall be brought down, and the mighty man shall be humbled, and the eyes of the lofty shall be humbled:16 But the LORD of the hosts shall be exalted in judgment, and God, that is holy, shall be sanctified with righteousness.17 Then the lambs shall be fed after their manner, and strangers shall eat the fat ones that are forsaken.18 Woe unto those that draw iniquity with cords of vanity, and sin as it were with a cart rope,19 that say, Let him make speed [and] hasten his work that we may see [it], and let the counsel of the Holy One of Israel draw near and come that we may know [it]!20 Woe unto those that call evil good and good evil; that put darkness for light and light for darkness; that put bitter for sweet and sweet for bitter!21 Woe unto [those that are] wise in their own eyes and prudent in their own sight!22 Woe unto [those that are] mighty to drink wine and men of strength to mingle strong drink;23 who justify the wicked for bribes and take away the righteousness of the righteous from him!24 Therefore as the fire devours the stubble and the flame consumes the chaff, [so] their root shall be as rottenness, and their blossom shall go away as dust because they have cast away the law of the LORD of the hosts and despised the word of the Holy One of Israel.25 Therefore is the anger of the LORD kindled against his people, and he has stretched forth his hand against them and has smitten them; and the mountains trembled, and their carcasses [were] torn in the midst of the streets. For all this his anger is not turned away, but his hand [is] stretched out still.26 And he will lift up a banner [as an example] to Gentiles that are far and will hiss unto those [that are] in the end of the earth; and behold, they shall come with speed swiftly:27 None shall be weary nor stumble among them; none shall slumber nor sleep; neither shall the girdle of their loins be loosed, nor the latchet of their shoes be broken;28 whose arrows [are] sharp, and all their bows bent; their horses' hoofs shall be counted like flint, and the [wheels of their chariots] like a whirlwind;29 their roaring [shall be] like a lion: they shall roar like young lions; they shall gnash their teeth and lay hold of the prey and shall carry [it] away safe, and none shall deliver [it].30 And in that day they shall roar against them like the roaring of the sea; and if [one] looks unto the land, behold darkness [and] sorrow, and the light is darkened in the heavens thereof.:
