1 Now Pashhur, the son of Immer the priest, who was chief officer in Yahweh’s house, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things. 2 Then Pashhur struck Jeremiah the prophet and put him in the stocks that were in the upper gate of Benjamin, which was in Yahweh’s house. 3 On the next day, Pashhur released Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then Jeremiah said to him, "Yahweh has not called your name Pashhur, but Magormissabib.20:3 "Magormissabib" means "surrounded by terror" 4 For Yahweh says, ‘Behold, I will make you a terror to yourself and to all your friends. They will fall by the sword of their enemies, and your eyes will see it. I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will carry them captive to Babylon, and will kill them with the sword. 5 Moreover I will give all the riches of this city, and all its gains, and all its precious things, yes, I will give all the treasures of the kings of Judah into the hand of their enemies. They will make them captives, take them, and carry them to Babylon. 6 You, Pashhur, and all who dwell in your house will go into captivity. You will come to Babylon, and there you will die, and there you will be buried, you, and all your friends, to whom you have prophesied falsely.’"
7 Yahweh, you have persuaded me, and I was persuaded.
You are stronger than I, and have prevailed.
I have become a laughingstock all day.
Everyone mocks me.
8 For as often as I speak, I cry out;
I cry, "Violence and destruction!"
because Yahweh’s word has been made a reproach to me,
and a derision, all day.
9 If I say that I will not make mention of him,
or speak any more in his name,
then there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones.
I am weary with holding it in.
I can’t.
10 For I have heard the defaming of many:
"Terror on every side!
Denounce, and we will denounce him!"
say all my familiar friends,
those who watch for my fall.
"Perhaps he will be persuaded,
and we will prevail against him,
and we will take our revenge on him."
11 But Yahweh is with me as an awesome mighty one.
Therefore my persecutors will stumble,
and they won’t prevail.
They will be utterly disappointed
because they have not dealt wisely,
even with an everlasting dishonor which will never be forgotten.
12 But Yahweh of Armies, who tests the righteous,
who sees the heart and the mind,
let me see your vengeance on them,
for I have revealed my cause to you.
13 Sing to Yahweh!
Praise Yahweh,
for he has delivered the soul of the needy from the hand of evildoers.
14 Cursed is the day in which I was born.
Don’t let the day in which my mother bore me be blessed.
15 Cursed is the man who brought news to my father, saying,
"A boy is born to you," making him very glad.
16 Let that man be as the cities which Yahweh overthrew,
and didn’t repent.
Let him hear a cry in the morning,
and shouting at noontime,
17 because he didn’t kill me from the womb.
So my mother would have been my grave,
and her womb always great.
18 Why did I come out of the womb to see labor and sorrow,
that my days should be consumed with shame?

Ka Arumia a Heremaia e Pahuru
1 Nā, ka rongo a Pahuru tama a Imere tohunga, tino kāwana i roto i te whare o Ihowā, i a Heremaia e poropiti ana i ēnei mea. 5 Ka hoatu anō e ahau ngā rawa katoa o tēnei pā, me āna mea katoa i hua mai, me āna mea utu nui katoa, āe rā, me ngā taonga katoa o ngā kīngi o Hūrā, ka hoatu e ahau ki te ringa o ō rātou hoariri, ā, ka pāhuatia e rātou, ka tangohia, ka maua hoki ki Papurōna. 6 Nā, ko koe, e Pahuru, koutou ko ngā tāngata katoa e noho ana i tōu whare, ka riro koutou ki te whakarau; ā, ka tae koe ki Papurōna, mate atu ki reira, tanumia atu ki reira, a koe me ōu hoa aroha katoa, i poropiti teka atu nā koe ki a rātou.’ "
Ka Whakahorihori a Heremaia i ōna Kaiaru
7 E Ihowā, nāu ahau i hangarau,
ā, raru ana ahau;
he kaha rawa koe i ahau,
ā, kua taea tāu.
Kua waiho ahau hei whakakatanga i te rā katoa,
kei te whakatoia ahau e te katoa.
8 I ōku kōrerotanga katoa hoki, ka hāmama ahau;
ka karanga ahau, "He mahi nanakia, he pāhua!"
Nō te mea kua waiho te kupu a Ihowā hei tāwainga mōku,
hei whakatoinga, i te rā katoa.
9 Ā, ki te kī ahau, "E kore ahau e whakahua i a ia,
e kore anō hoki e kōrero i runga i tōna ingoa ā muri ake nei,"
nā, ka kā i roto i tōku ngākau me te mea he ahi e ngiha ana,
tūtaki iho ki roto ki ōku wheua;
ā, ka ruha ahau i te koromaki,
ā, kāhore e taea e ahau te pupuri.
10 Kua rongo hoki ahau i te hahani a te tini:
"He whakawehi i ngā taha katoa!
Whakahēngia, ā, ka whakahēngia ia e mātou!"
E ai tā ōku hoa tāpui katoa,
te hunga e whanga ana i ahau kia tatū;
"Tērā pea ia e taea te whakawai,
ā, ka kaha tātou ki a ia,
ā, ka whiwhi tātou ki te utu i a ia."
11 Otiia kei ahau a Ihowā, ānō he mārohirohi,
he mea whakamataku.
Nā reira, ka tūtuki ngā waewae o ōku kaitūkino,
e kore hoki tā rātou e taea.
Tērā e nui tō rātou whakamā,
he whakamā mau tonu,
ā, e kore e warewarea,
nō te mea kīhai i mahia tā rātou i runga i te whakaaro nui.
12 Otiia, e Ihowā o ngā mano, e whakamātautau nei i te tangata tika;
e kite nei i ngā whatumanawa, i te ngākau,
tukua ahau kia kite i tāu utu ki a rātou;
kua whakakitea nei hoki e ahau ki a koe tāku totohe.
13 Waiata ki a Ihowā!
Whakamoemititia a Ihowā!
Kua whakaorangia nei hoki e ia te wairua o te rawakore
i te ringa o ngā kaimahi i te kino.
14 Kia kangā te rangi
i whānau ai ahau;
kaua e whakapaingia te rā i puta,
mai ai ahau i roto i tōku whaea.
15 Kia kangā te tangata
nāna i kawe te kōrero ki tōku pāpā, i mea,
"Kua whānau he tamaiti māu, he tāne,"
meinga ana kia nui tōna koa.
16 Kia rite taua tangata ki ngā pā
i hurihia e Ihowā, kīhai nei i rīpenetātia e ia.
Kia rangona e ia te karanga i te ata,
te hāmama i te poutūmārōtanga;
17 he kore nōna kīhai i whakamate i ahau i te putanga mai anō i te kōpū;
ā, kia waiho ai tōku whaea hei urupā mōku,
kia mau tonu ai te hapū o tōna kōpū.
18 He aha ahau i puta mai ai i te kōpū,
kia kite i te raruraru, i te māuiui,
kia poto anō ōku rā i te whakamā?
