1 Shiggaion di Davide ch’egli cantò all’Eterno, a proposito delle parole di Cush, beniaminita. O Eterno, Dio mio, io mi confido in te; alvami da tutti quelli che mi perseguitano, e liberami;

2 che talora il nemico, come un leone, non sbrani l’anima mia lacerandola, senza che alcuno mi liberi.

3 O Eterno, Dio mio, se ho fatto questo, se v’è perversità nelle mie mani,

4 se ho reso mal per bene a chi viveva meco in pace (io che ho liberato colui che m’era nemico senza agione),

5 perseguiti pure il nemico l’anima mia e la raggiunga, e calpesti al suolo la mia vita, e stenda la mia gloria nella polvere. Sela.

6 Lèvati, o Eterno, nell’ira tua, innalzati contro i furori de’ miei nemici, e dèstati in mio favore.

7 Tu hai ordinato il giudicio. Ti circondi l’assemblea de’ popoli, e ponti a sedere al di sopra d’essa in luogo elevato.

8 L’Eterno giudica i popoli; giudica me, o Eterno, secondo la mia giustizia e la mia integrità.

9 Deh, venga meno la malvagità de’ malvagi, ma stabilisci il giusto; poiché sei l’Iddio giusto che prova i cuori e le reni.

10 Il mio scudo è in Dio, che salva i diritti di cuore.

11 Iddio è un giusto giudice, un Dio che s’adira ogni giorno.

12 Se il malvagio non si converte egli aguzzerà la sua spada; egli ha teso l’arco suo e lo tien pronto;

13 dispone contro di lui strumenti di morte; le sue frecce le rende infocate.

14 Ecco, il malvagio è in doglie per produrre iniquità. Egli ha concepito malizia e partorisce menzogna.

15 Ha scavato una fossa e l’ha resa profonda, ma è caduto nella fossa che ha fatta.

16 La sua malizia gli ritornerà sul capo, e la sua violenza gli scenderà sulla testa.

17 Io loderò l’Eterno per la sua giustizia, e salmeggerò al nome dell’Eterno, dell’Altissimo.

1 O Jehovah my God, in thee do I take refuge:

Save me from all them that pursue me, and deliver me,

2 Lest they tear my soul like a lion,

Rending it in pieces, while there is none to deliver.

3 O Jehovah my God, if I have done this;

If there be iniquity in my hands;

4 If I have rewarded evil unto him that was at peace with me

(Yea, I have delivered him that without cause was mine adversary;)

5 Let the enemy pursue my soul, and overtake it;

Yea, let him tread my life down to the earth,

And lay my glory in the dust. [Selah

6 Arise, O Jehovah, in thine anger;

Lift up thyself against the rage of mine adversaries,

And awake for me; thou hast commanded judgment.

7 And let the congregation of the peoples compass thee about;

And over them return thou on high.

8 Jehovah ministereth judgment to the peoples:

Judge me, O Jehovah, according to my righteousness, and to mine integrity that is in me.

9 Oh let the wickedness of the wicked come to an end, but establish thou the righteous:

For the righteous God trieth the minds and hearts.

10 My shield is with God,

Who saveth the upright in heart.

11 God is a righteous judge,

Yea, a God that hath indignation every day.

12 If a man turn not, he will whet his sword;

He hath bent his bow, and made it ready;

13 He hath also prepared for him the instruments of death;

He maketh his arrows fiery shafts.

14 Behold, he travaileth with iniquity;

Yea, he hath conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.

15 He hath made a pit, and digged it,

And is fallen into the ditch which he made.

16 His mischief shall return upon his own head,

And his violence shall come down upon his own pate.

17 I will give thanks unto Jehovah according to his righteousness,

And will sing praise to the name of Jehovah Most High.
