1 Então Job respondeu a Deus:2 Sei bem que podes todas as coisas, e que ninguém se te opõe.3 Perguntaste quem foi que tão loucamentedesacreditou a tua providência. Fui eu. Falei de coisas que ignorava, de que nada sabia,coisas demasiado maravilhosaspara a minha compreensão.4 Tu dizes: 'Ouve e falarei! Deixa-me pôr-te umas quantas questões!Vê depois e podes responder!' Mas eu quero dizer-te o seguinte:5 Antes, ouvi falar a teu respeito,mas agora foi como se te tivesse vistocom os meus próprios olhos;6 por isso me detesto e me arrependo; ponho-me sobre o pó e a cinza.7 Depois do Senhor ter falado com Job, disse a Elifaz o temanita: Estou zangado contra ti e contra os teus amigos, porque não foram justos no que disseram a meu respeito, ao contrário do meu servo Job, que falou rectamente.8 Agora peguem em sete bezerros e sete carneiros, vão ter com o meu servo Job e ofereçam holocaustos por vocês; ele orará a vosso favor, e eu aceitarei essa oração; não vos destruirei, como deveria, por causa do vosso pecado, da vossa falha em dizer coisas rectas como o meu servo Job.9 Assim Elifaz o temanita, Bildade o suita e Zofar o naamatita fizeram conforme o que o Senhor lhes mandara, e o Senhor aceitou a intercessão de Job a favor deles.10 Quando Job orou pelos seus amigos, o Senhor restaurou-lhe os bens e a felicidade! Com efeito, o Senhor tornou a dar-lhe a dobrar tudo o que dantes possuía!11 Então todos os seus irmãos, irmãs e antigos amigos vieram ter com ele para o confortarem e consolarem, e festejaram juntos, na sua casa, o bem-estar recuperado; isso o compensou de todas as suas tristezas e provas pelas quais o Senhor o tinha feito passar. Cada um deles trouxe-lhe um presente em dinheiro e um anel de ouro.12 Desta forma o Senhor abençoou Job, no fim da sua vida, mais do que no princípio. Porque passou a ter 14.000 ovelhas, 6.000 camelos, 1.000 juntas de bois e 1.000 jumentas.13 Deus deu-lhe igualmente mais outros sete filhos e três filhas. Estas últimas chamavam-se: Jemima, Quezia e Queren.15 Em toda a terra não houve raparigas tão encantadoras como estas filhas de Job. Seu pai fê-las herdar em igualdade direitos com os seus irmãos.16 Job viveu, depois disto tudo, mais 140 anos; o suficiente para poder ver os netos e ainda os bisnetos.17 Por fim faleceu, muito velho, tendo vivido, desta forma, uma vida longa e boa.

1 Then Job answered the LORD, and said,2 I know that thou canst do every thing, and that no thought can be withheld from thee.3 Who is he that hideth counsel without knowledge? therefore have I uttered that which I understood not; things too wonderful for me, which I knew not.4 Hear, I beseech thee, and I will speak: I will ask of thee, and declare thou to me.5 I have heard of thee by the hearing of the ear: but now my eye seeth thee.6 Wherefore I abhor myself, and repent in dust and ashes.7 And it was so, that after the LORD had spoken these words to Job, the LORD said to Eliphaz the Temanite, My wrath is kindled against thee, and against thy two friends: for ye have not spoken of me the thing that is right, as my servant Job hath.8 Therefore take to you now seven bullocks and seven rams, and go to my servant Job, and offer for yourselves a burnt-offering; and my servant Job shall pray for you: for him will I accept: lest I deal with you after your folly, in that ye have not spoken of me the thing which is right, like my servant Job.9 So Eliphaz the Temanite and Bildad the Shuhite and Zophar the Naamathite went, and did according as the LORD commanded them: the LORD also accepted Job.10 And the LORD turned the captivity of Job, when he prayed for his friends: also the LORD gave Job twice as much as he had before.11 Then came there to him all his brethren, and all his sisters, and all they that had been of his acquaintance before, and ate bread with him in his house: and they condoled with him, and comforted him over all the evil that the LORD had brought upon him: every man also gave him a piece of money, and every one an ear-ring of gold.12 So the LORD blessed the latter end of Job more than his beginning: for he had fourteen thousand sheep, and six thousand camels, and a thousand yoke of oxen, and a thousand she asses.13 He had also seven sons, and three daughters.14 And he called the name of the first, Jemima; and the name of the second, Kezia; and the name of the third, Keren-happuch.15 And in all the land were no women found so fair as the daughters of Job: and their father gave them inheritance among their brethren.16 After this Job lived a hundred and forty years, and saw his sons, and his sons' sons, even four generations.17 So Job died, being old and full of days.
