1 (H51:1-2)Laulunjohtajalle. Daavidin psalmi, profeetta Natanin käytyä hänen luonaan sen vuoksi, että hän oli koskenut Batsebaan. (H51:3)Jumala, ole minulle armollinen hyvyydessäsi, pyyhi pois minun syntini suuren laupeutesi tähden.

2 (H51:4)Pese minut puhtaaksi rikoksestani ja anna lankeemukseni anteeksi.

3 (H51:5)Minä tiedän pahat tekoni, minun syntini on aina minun edessäni.

4 (H51:6)Sinua, sinua vastaan olen rikkonut, olen tehnyt vastoin sinun tahtoasi. Oikein teet, kun minua nuhtelet, ja syystä sinä minut tuomitset.

5 (H51:7)Syntinen olin jo syntyessäni, synnin alaiseksi olen siinnyt äitini kohtuun.

6 (H51:8)Mutta sinä tahdot sisimpääni totuuden -- ilmoita siis minulle viisautesi!

7 (H51:9)Vihmo minut puhtaaksi iisopilla ja pese minut lunta valkeammaksi.

8 (H51:10)Suo minun kuulla ilon ja riemun sana, elvytä mieli, jonka olet murtanut.

9 (H51:11)Käännä katseesi pois synneistäni ja pyyhi minusta kaikki pahat tekoni.

10 (H51:12)Jumala, luo minuun puhdas sydän ja uudista minut, anna vahva henki.

11 (H51:13)Älä karkota minua kasvojesi edestä, älä ota minulta pois pyhää henkeäsi.

12 (H51:14)Anna minulle jälleen pelastuksen riemu ja suo minun iloiten sinua seurata,

13 (H51:15)niin opetan tiesi sinusta luopuneille, ja he palaavat sinun luoksesi.

14 (H51:16)Jumala, pelastajani, päästä minut verivelasta, niin minä riemuiten ylistän hyvyyttäsi.

15 (H51:17)Herra, avaa minun huuleni, niin suuni julistaa sinun kunniaasi.

16 (H51:18)Jos toisin sinulle teurasuhrin, se ei sinua miellytä, polttouhriakaan et huoli.

17 (H51:19)Murtunut mieli on minun uhrini, särkynyttä sydäntä et hylkää, Jumala.

18 (H51:20)Osoita Siionille laupeutesi ja rakenna jälleen Jerusalemin muurit!

19 (H51:21)Silloin otat taas vastaan määräuhrit, ja alttarille tuodaan teurashärät.

1 Have mercy upon me, O God, according to thy lovingkindness:

According to the multitude of thy tender mercies blot out my transgressions.

2 Wash me thoroughly from mine iniquity,

And cleanse me from my sin.

3 For I know my transgressions;

And my sin is ever before me.

4 Against thee, thee only, have I sinned,

And done that which is evil in thy sight;

That thou mayest be justified when thou speakest,

And be clear when thou judgest.

5 Behold, I was brought forth in iniquity;

And in sin did my mother conceive me.

6 Behold, thou desirest truth in the inward parts;

And in the hidden part thou wilt make me to know wisdom.

7 Purify me with hyssop, and I shall be clean:

Wash me, and I shall be whiter than snow.

8 Make me to hear joy and gladness,

That the bones which thou hast broken may rejoice.

9 Hide thy face from my sins,

And blot out all mine iniquities.

10 Create in me a clean heart, O God;

And renew a right spirit within me.

11 Cast me not away from thy presence;

And take not thy holy Spirit from me.

12 Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation;

And uphold me with a willing spirit.

13 Then will I teach transgressors thy ways;

And sinners shall be converted unto thee.

14 Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation;

And my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.

15 O Lord, open thou my lips;

And my mouth shall show forth thy praise.

16 For thou delightest not in sacrifice; else would I give it:

Thou hast no pleasure in burnt-offering.

17 The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit:

A broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.

18 Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion:

Build thou the walls of Jerusalem.

19 Then wilt thou delight in the sacrifices of righteousness,

In burnt-offering and whole burnt-offering:

Then will they offer bullocks upon thine altar.
