1 And the word of Yahweh came unto me saying:2 Son of man, What can the vine-tree be more than any other tree,any branch which hath been found among the trees of the forest?3 Shall there be taken from it wood, to be made into any work? Or will men take therefrom a peg, to hang thereon any vessel?4 Lo! into the fire, it is given up for fuel, The two ends thereof, doth the fire devour, And the middle thereof is charred, Is it fit for any work?5 Lo! when it was yet whole, it could not be made into any work, how much less when !the fire hath devoured it. and it is charred, can it still be made into any work?6 Therefore Thus saith My Lord Yahweh, As a vine-tree among the trees of the forest, which I have given up to the fire for fuel, so have I given up the inhabitants of Jerusalem.7 Therefore will I set my face against them, Out of one fire, have they come forth But another fire, shall devour them,So shall ye know that, I, am Yahweh, by my setting my face against them;8 I will therefore give up the land as a desolation, because they have committed treachery, Declareth My Lord., Yahweh.

1 E veio a mim a palavra do Senhor, dizendo: 2 Filho do homem, que mais é a madeira da videira que qualquer outro, o sarmento que está entre as árvores do bosque? 3 Toma-se dele madeira, para fazer alguma obra? Ou toma-se dele alguma estaca, para se pendurar algum traste? 4 Eis que é lançado no fogo, para ser consumido; ambas as suas extremidades consome o fogo, e o meio dele fica também queimado; serviria, pois, para alguma obra? 5 Ora, se, estando inteiro, não servia para obra alguma, quanto menos sendo consumido do fogo, quanto menos sendo queimado, se faria dele qualquer obra? 6 Portanto, assim diz o Senhor Jeová: Como a videira entre as árvores do bosque, que tenho entregado ao fogo para que seja consumida, assim entregarei os habitantes de Jerusalém. 7 E porei a minha face contra eles; eles sairão do fogo, mas o fogo os consumirá; e sabereis que eu sou o Senhor, quando tiver posto a minha face contra eles. 8 E tornarei a terra em assolação, porquanto grandemente prevaricaram, diz o Senhor Jeová.
