1 The words of Jeremiah son of Hilkiah,of the priests who were in Anathoth, in the land of Benjamin:2 unto whom came the word of Yahweh, in the days of Josiah son of Amen king of Judah,in the thirteenth year of his reign;3 it came also in the days of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, unto the end of the eleventh year of Zedekiah son of Josiah king of Judah,as far as the carrying away of Jerusalem captive, in the fifth month.4 So then, the word of Yahweh came unto me, saying:5 Before I formed thee at thy birth, I took knowledge of thee, And before thy nativity, I hallowed thee,A prophet to the nations, I appointed thee.6 Then said IAh! My Lord Yahweh! Lo! I know not how to speak,For a child, am I!7 Then said Yahweh unto me, Do not say, A child, am, I,For against whomsoever I send thee, shalt thou go, And whatsoever I command thee, shalt thou speak:8 Be not afraid of their faces, For with thee, am I, to deliver thee Declareth Yahweh.9 Then Yahweh put forth his hand, and touched my mouth,and Yahweh said unto me, Lo! I have put my words in thy mouth.10 See! I have set thee in charge this day, over the nations and over the kingdoms, To uproot and to break down, and to destroy and to tear in pieces,To build and to plant.11 Moreover the Word of Yahweh came unto me saying, What canst thou see Jeremiah? And I said, A twig of an almond-tree, can I see.12 Then said Yahweh unto meThou hast rightly seen,for keeping watch, am I over my word to perform it.13 And the word of Yahweh came unto me a second time saying, What canst thou see? And I said, A boiling caldron, Can I see, with, the front thereof lion the North.14 Then said Yahweh unto me,Out of the North, shall break forth calamity, against all the inhabitants of the land.15 For behold me! calling for all the families of the kingdoms of the North, Declareth Yahweh,and they shall come, and set every one his throne at the opening of the gates of Jerusalem and against all her walls round about, and against all the cities of Judah!16 Then will I pronounce my judgments against them, concerning all their wickedness,in that they have forsaken me and have burned incense unto other gods, and have bowed down to the works of their own hands,17 Thou, therefore, shalt gird thy loins, and arise, and speak unto them, all that, I, command thee,be not dismayed because of them, lest I dismay thee before their face.18 I, thereforelo! I have set thee to-day as a fortified city, and as a pillar of iron and as walls of bronze, over all the land,against the kings of Judah, against her princes, against her priests and against the people of the land.19 And they will fight against thee but shall not prevail against thee,for with thee, am I, Declareth Yahweh, to deliver thee.

1 Palavras de Jeremias, filho de Hilquias, dos sacerdotes que estavam em Anatote, na terra de Benjamim. 2 A ele veio a palavra do Senhor, nos dias de Josias, filho de Amom, rei de Judá, no décimo terceiro ano do seu reinado. 3 E lhe veio também nos dias de Jeoaquim, filho de Josias, rei de Judá, até ao fim do ano undécimo de Zedequias, filho de Josias, rei de Judá, até que Jerusalém foi levada em cativeiro no quinto mês.

4 Assim veio a mim a palavra do Senhor, dizendo: 5 Antes que eu te formasse no ventre, eu te conheci; e, antes que saísses da madre, te santifiquei e às nações te dei por profeta. 6 Então, disse eu: Ah! Senhor Jeová! Eis que não sei falar; porque sou uma criança. 7 Mas o Senhor me disse: Não digas: Eu sou uma criança; porque, aonde quer que eu te enviar, irás; e tudo quanto te mandar dirás. 8 Não temas diante deles, porque eu sou contigo para te livrar, diz o Senhor. 9 E estendeu o Senhor a mão, tocou-me na boca e disse-me o Senhor: Eis que ponho as minhas palavras na tua boca. 10 Olha, ponho-te neste dia sobre as nações e sobre os reinos, para arrancares, e para derribares, e para destruíres, e para arruinares; e também para edificares e para plantares.

11 Ainda veio a mim a palavra do Senhor, dizendo: Que é que vês, Jeremias? E eu disse: Vejo uma vara de amendoeira. 12 E disse-me o Senhor: Viste bem; porque eu velo sobre a minha palavra para a cumprir.

13 E veio a mim a palavra do Senhor, segunda vez, dizendo: Que é que vês? E eu disse: Vejo uma panela a ferver, cuja face está para a banda do Norte. 14 E disse-me o Senhor: Do Norte se descobrirá o mal sobre todos os habitantes da terra. 15 Porque eis que eu convoco todas as famílias dos reinos do Norte, diz o Senhor; e virão, e cada um porá o seu trono à entrada das portas de Jerusalém, e contra todos os seus muros em redor, e contra todas as cidades de Judá. 16 E eu pronunciarei contra eles os meus juízos, por causa de toda a sua malícia; pois me deixaram a mim, e queimaram incenso a deuses estranhos, e se encurvaram diante das obras das suas mãos. 17 Tu, pois, cinge os teus lombos, e levanta-te, e dize-lhes tudo quanto eu te mandar; não desanimes diante deles, porque eu farei com que não temas na sua presença. 18 Porque eis que te ponho hoje por cidade forte, e por coluna de ferro, e por muros de bronze, contra toda a terra, e contra os reis de Judá, e contra os seus príncipes, e contra os seus sacerdotes, e contra o povo da terra. 19 E pelejarão contra ti, mas não prevalecerão contra ti; porque eu sou contigo, diz o Senhor, para te livrar.
