1 Thus, said Yahweh unto me,Go and buy for thyself a linen girdle, and put upon thy loins,but in water, shalt thou not place it.2 So I bought a girdle according to the word of Yahweh,and put upon my loins.3 Then came the word of Yahweh unto me second time saying:4 Take the girdle which thou hast bought which is upon thy loins,and arise go to the Euphrates, and hide it there in a hole of the cliff.5 So I went, and hid it, by the Euphrates, as Yahweh had commanded me.6 And it came to pass, at the end of many days,that Yahweh said unto me,Arise go to the Euphrates, and take from thence the girdle, which I commanded thee to hide there.7 So I went to the Euphrates, and digged, and took the girdle out of the place where I had hidden it,and lo! the girdle was spoiled, it was good for nothing, s8 Then came the word of Yahweh unto me saying:9 Thus, saith Yahweh,After this manner, will I spoil the pride of Judah and the great pride of Jerusalem.10 This wicked people who are refusing to hear my words, who are walking in the stubbornness of their heart, and have gone after other gods, to serve them and to bow down to them, yea let them be like this girdle, which is good for nothing.11 For as a girdle cleaveth unto the loins of a man, so caused I to cleave unto methe whole house of Israel and the whole house of Judah Declareth Yahweh, to become mineFor a people, and For a name, and For a praise and For an adorning,but they hearkened not.12 Therefore shalt thou say unto them this wordThus, saith Yahweh God of Israel, Every jar, is to be filled with wine; and they will say unto thee, Do we not, know well, that every jar, is to be filled with wine?13 Then shalt thou say unto themThus, saith YahwehBehold me! filling all the inhabitants of this land Even the kings that are sitting for David upon his throne and the priests and the prophets, and all the inhabitants of Jerusalemwith drunkenness;14 and I will dash them every man against his brother even the fathers and the sons together, Declareth Yahweh,I will not pity, Neither will I snare Neither will I have compassion that I should not destroy them.15 Hear ye and give ear, be not haughty,For Yahweh, hath spoken.16 Give ye to Yahweh your Godglory, Before he cause darkness, and Before your feet stumble upon the twilight mountains; Lest, when ye wait for light, He turn it into the shadow of death, And change it for thick darkness.17 But if ye will not hear it, In secret places, shall my soul weep Because of the pride, And mine eye, shall flow over, and run down with tears, Because captive hath been taken the flock of Yahweh.18 Say thou to the king and to the queen-mother, Abase yourselvesSit down,For descended have your Head-tires, your Crown of adornment.19 The cities of the South, are shut And there is none to open,Judah hath been carried away captive, She hath altogether been carried away captive in full number.20 Lift up your eyes and see Them who are coming in from the North,Where is The flock that was given thee, Thy beautiful flock?21 What wilt thou say when he shall bring punishment upon thee, Since, thou thyself, hast accustomed them to be over thee as friends in chief? Shall not, pangs, seize thee, as of a woman in childbirth?22 But if thou say in thy heart, Wherefore have these things befallen me? For the greatness of thine iniquity have Thy skirts been turned aside Thy heels suffered violence!23 Can the Ethiopian change, his skin, Or the leopard his spots? Even, ye, may be able to do right, Who are accustomed e to do wrong.24 Therefore have I scattered them, As broken straw passing away, by the wind of the desert.25 This is thy lot Thy measured portion from me, Declareth Yahweh; For that thou didst forget me, And confide in falsehood:26 Therefore, even I myself, have drawn away thy skirts, over thy face, And thy shame hath been seen,27 Thine adulteries and thy neighings, thine unchaste wickedness, Upon the hills in the field, I have seen thine abominations! Woe to thee, O Jerusalem, Wilt thou not become pure? After how long yet?

1 Assim me disse o Senhor: Vai, e compra um cinto de linho, e põe-no sobre os teus lombos, mas não o metas na água. 2 E comprei o cinto, conforme a palavra do Senhor, e o pus sobre os meus lombos. 3 Então, veio a palavra do Senhor a mim, segunda vez, dizendo: 4 Toma o cinto que compraste, e trazes sobre os teus lombos, e levanta-te; vai ao Eufrates e esconde-o ali na fenda de uma rocha. 5 E fui e escondi-o junto ao Eufrates, como o Senhor me havia ordenado. 6 Sucedeu, pois, ao cabo de muitos dias, que me disse o Senhor: Levanta-te, vai ao Eufrates e toma dali o cinto que te ordenei que escondesses ali. 7 E fui ao Eufrates, e cavei, e tomei o cinto do lugar onde o havia escondido; e eis que o cinto tinha apodrecido e para nada prestava. 8 Então, veio a mim a palavra do Senhor, dizendo: 9 Assim diz o Senhor: Do mesmo modo farei apodrecer a soberba de Judá e a muita soberba de Jerusalém. 10 Este povo maligno, que se recusa a ouvir as minhas palavras, que caminha segundo o propósito do seu coração e anda após deuses alheios, para servi-los e inclinar-se diante deles, será tal como este cinto, que para nada presta. 11 Porque, como o cinto está ligado aos lombos do homem, assim eu liguei a mim toda a casa de Israel e toda a casa de Judá, diz o Senhor, para me serem por povo, e por nome, e por louvor, e por glória; mas não deram ouvidos.

12 Pelo que dize-lhes esta palavra: Assim diz o Senhor, Deus de Israel: Todo odre se encherá de vinho; e dir-te-ão: Não sabemos nós muito bem que todo odre se encherá de vinho? 13 Mas tu dize-lhes: Assim diz o Senhor: Eis que eu encherei de embriaguez todos os habitantes desta terra, e os reis da estirpe de Davi, que estão assentados sobre o seu trono, e os sacerdotes, e os profetas, e todos os habitantes de Jerusalém. 14 E fá-los-ei em pedaços uns contra os outros, e juntamente os pais com os filhos, diz o Senhor; não perdoarei, nem pouparei, nem terei deles compaixão, para que os não destrua.

15 Escutai, e inclinai os ouvidos, e não vos ensoberbeçais; porque o Senhor falou. 16 Dai glória ao Senhor, vosso Deus, antes que venha a escuridão e antes que tropecem vossos pés nos montes tenebrosos; antes que, esperando vós luz, ele a mude em sombra de morte e a reduza à escuridão. 17 E, se isso não ouvirdes, a minha alma chorará em lugares ocultos, por causa da vossa soberba; e amargamente chorarão os meus olhos e se desfarão em lágrimas, porquanto o rebanho do Senhor foi levado cativo.

18 Dize ao rei e à rainha: Humilhai-vos e assentai-vos no chão; porque já caiu todo o ornato de vossas cabeças, a coroa de vossa glória. 19 As cidades do Sul estão fechadas, e ninguém há que as abra; todo o Judá foi levado cativo; sim, inteiramente foi levado cativo. 20 Levantai os olhos e vede os que vêm do Norte; onde está o rebanho que se te deu, e as ovelhas da tua glória? 21 Que dirás, quando puser os teus amigos sobre ti como cabeça, se foste tu mesmo que contra ti os ensinaste? Porventura, não te tomarão as dores, como à mulher que está de parto? 22 Quando, pois, disseres no teu coração: Por que me sobrevieram estas coisas? Pela multidão das tuas maldades se descobriram as tuas fraldas, e os teus calcanhares sofrem violentamente.

23 Pode o etíope mudar a sua pele ou o leopardo as suas manchas? Nesse caso também vós podereis fazer o bem, sendo ensinados a fazer o mal. 24 Pelo que os espalharei como o restolho, restolho que passa com o vento do deserto. 25 Esta será a tua sorte, a porção que te será medida por mim, diz o Senhor; pois te esqueceste de mim e confiaste em mentiras. 26 Assim também eu descobrirei as tuas fraldas até ao teu rosto; e aparecerá a tua ignomínia. 27 Vi as tuas abominações, e os teus adultérios, e os teus rinchos, e a enormidade da tua prostituição sobre os outeiros no campo; ai de ti, Jerusalém! Não te purificarás? Até quando ainda?
