1 So much of the word of Yahweh as came unto Jeremiah the prophet concerning the nations.2 Of Egypt, Concerning the force of Pharaoh-necho, king of Egypt, which was by the river Euphrates, in Carchemish,which Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, smote, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah:3 Prepare ye buckler and shield, And draw near to battle:4 Harness the horses, and mount, ye horsemen, Stand forth in helmets,Polish the lances, put on the coats of mail.5 Why have I seen it? They, panic-struck, are drawing back, Yea, their heroes, are crushed, Yea they have, fled, and not turned,Terror round about! Declareth Yahweh.6 Let not the swift, flee, Nor let the hero, escape,Northward, beside the river Euphrates, have they stumbled, and fallen.7 Who is it that is like the Nile when it riseth, Like rivers when his waters are tossed?8 Egypt was like the Nile when it riseth, And like rivers, when the waters are tossed: So he saidI will rise, I will cover the earth, I will destroy the city, and the dwellers therein.9 Mount the horses, And drive the chariots madly on, So let the heroes, go forth,Ethiopians and Libyans that grasp the buckler, And Lydians that graspthat treadthe bow, But, that day, belongeth to My Lord Yahweh of hosts10 A day of avenging, to avenge him of his adversaries, When the sword shall devour and be filled, and be sated with their blood,For, a sacrifice, hath My Lord, Yahweh of hosts, In the land of the North Towards the river Euphrates.11 Go up to Gilead and fetch balsam, O virgin daughter of Egypt! In vain, hast thou multiplied remedies, Healing, there is none for thee.12 The nations have heard of thy disgrace, And, thine outcry, hath filled the earth,For hero against hero, have they stumbled, Together, have fallen, the twain!13 The word which Yahweh spake unto Jeremiah the prophet,as to the coming of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon to smite the land of Egypt:14 Tell ye it in Egypt, And let it be heard in Migdol, Yea let it be heard in Noph, and in Tahpanhes,Say yeStand thou forth, and prepare thyself, For a sword hath devoured round about thee.15 Wherefore have thy valiant ones been laid prostrate? He hath made no stand, because, Yahweh, hath driven him back:16 Hath made many a one to be stumbling, Yea fallen is every one against his neighbour, So they have saidArise and let us return to our own people, And unto the land of our birth, From the face of the sword of the oppressor.17 Proclaim ye a name,Pharaoh, king of Egypta Sound! He hath overstepped the time appointed!18 As I live, saith the King, Yahweh of hosts, is his name: Though Like Tabor among mountains, Like Carmel, Into the sea shall he go!19 Baggage for captivity, prepare thee, O inhabitress, daughter of Egypt; For, Noph, shall become a desolation, And be burned without inhabitant.20 A calf of great beauty, is Egypt: The gad-fly, out of the North, comethcometh.21 Even her hirelings in her midst are like fatted calves, For, even they, have turnedhave fled at once! have made no stand! For, their day of doom, hath come upon them, The time of their visitation.22 Her noise, like a serpent, departeth,For, with a force, they advance, And with axes, have they come against her, like them who fell trees:23 They have cut down her forest Declareth Yahweh, Surely he cannot be searched out,For they have outnumbered locusts, and cannot be counted.24 Put to shame is the daughter of Egypt,She hath been delivered into the hand of the people of the North.25 Saith Yahweh of host God of Israel,Behold me! bringing punishmentagainst Amon of No, and upon Pharaoh and upon Egypt, and upon her gods and upon her kings,Even upon Pharaoh, and upon all that trust in him;26 And I will deliver themInto the hand of them who are seeking their life, Even into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon And into the hand of his servants,And after that, shall it be inhabited as in the days of old Declareth Yahweh.27 Thou, therefore, do not fear, O my Servant Jacob Nor be dismayed O Israel, For behold me! Saving thee from afar, And thy seed from the land of their captivity,So shall Jacob return and be quiet and shall rest, With none to occasion alarm.28 Thou, do not fear, O my Servant Jacob, Urgeth Yahweh, For, with thee, am I: Though I make an end of all the nations whither I have driven thee, Yet of thee, will I not make an end, But will correct thee in measure, And not hold thee, guiltless,

1 Palavra do Senhor que veio a Jeremias, o profeta, contra as nações. 2 Acerca do Egito, contra o exército de Faraó Neco, rei do Egito, que estava junto ao rio Eufrates, em Carquemis; ao qual feriu Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, no ano quarto de Jeoaquim, filho de Josias, rei de Judá: 3 Preparai o escudo e o pavês e chegai-vos para a peleja. 4 Selai os cavalos, e montai, cavaleiros, e apresentai-vos com elmos; alimpai as lanças e vesti-vos de couraças. 5 Por que razão vejo os medrosos voltando as costas? Os seus heróis estão abatidos e vão fugindo, sem olharem para trás; terror há ao redor, diz o Senhor. 6 Não fuja o ligeiro, e não escape o herói; para a banda do Norte, junto à borda do rio Eufrates, tropeçaram e caíram. 7 Quem é este que vem subindo como o Nilo e cujas águas se movem como os rios? 8 O Egito vem subindo como o Nilo, e as suas águas se movem como os rios; ele disse: Subirei, cobrirei a terra, destruirei a cidade e os que habitam nela. 9 Avançai, ó cavalos, e estrondeai, ó carros, e saiam os valentes: os etíopes, e os de Pute, que tomam o escudo, e os lídios, que tomam e entesam o arco. 10 Porque este dia é o dia do Senhor Jeová dos Exércitos, dia de vingança para se vingar dos seus adversários; e a espada devorará, e fartar-se-á, e embriagar-se-á com o sangue deles; porque o Senhor Jeová dos Exércitos tem um sacrifício na terra do Norte, junto ao rio Eufrates. 11 Sobe a Gileade e toma bálsamo, ó virgem filha do Egito; debalde, multiplicas remédios; não há cura para ti. 12 As nações ouviram falar da tua vergonha, e a terra está cheia do teu clamor; porque o valente tropeçou no valente, e ambos caíram juntos.

13 Palavra que falou o Senhor a Jeremias, o profeta, acerca da vinda de Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, para ferir a terra do Egito: 14 Anunciai no Egito e fazei ouvir isto em Migdol; fazei também ouvi-lo em Nofe e em Tafnes; dizei: Apresenta-te e prepara-te, porque a espada devorou o que está ao redor de ti. 15 Por que foram derribados os teus valentes? Não se puderam ter em pé, porque o Senhor os abateu. 16 Multiplicou os que tropeçavam; também caíram uns sobre os outros e disseram: Levanta-te, e voltemos ao nosso povo e à terra do nosso nascimento, por causa da espada que oprime. 17 Clamaram ali: Faraó, rei do Egito, é apenas um som; deixou passar o tempo assinalado. 18 Vivo eu, diz o rei, cujo nome é o Senhor dos Exércitos, que, certamente, como o Tabor entre os montes e como o Carmelo junto ao mar, assim ele virá. 19 Prepara-te para ires para o cativeiro, ó moradora, filha do Egito; porque Nofe será tornada em desolação e será abrasada, até que ninguém mais aí more. 20 Bezerra mui formosa é o Egito, mas já vem a destruição; vem do Norte. 21 Até os seus mercenários no meio dela são como bezerros cevados; mas também eles viraram as costas e fugiram juntos; não estiveram firmes, porque veio sobre eles o dia da sua ruína e o tempo da sua visitação. 22 A sua voz irá como a da serpente, porque marcharão com um exército e virão a ela com machados, como cortadores de lenha. 23 Cortaram o seu bosque, diz o Senhor, que era impenetrável, porque se multiplicaram mais do que os gafanhotos; são inumeráveis. 24 A filha do Egito está envergonhada; foi entregue na mão do povo do Norte. 25 Diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, Deus de Israel: Eis que eu visitarei Amom de Nô, e a Faraó, e ao Egito, e aos seus deuses, e aos seus reis; ao próprio Faraó e aos que confiam nele. 26 E os entregarei nas mãos dos que procuram a sua morte, nas mãos de Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia e nas mãos dos seus servos; mas, depois, será habitada como nos dias antigos, diz o Senhor.

27 Não temas, pois, tu, servo meu, Jacó, nem te espantes, ó Israel; porque eis que te livrarei mesmo de longe e a tua semente da terra do seu cativeiro; e Jacó voltará, e descansará, e sossegará, e não haverá quem o atemorize. 28 Não temas, servo meu, Jacó, diz o Senhor, porque estou contigo; porque porei termo a todas as nações entre as quais te lancei; mas a ti não porei termo, mas castigar-te-ei com medida e não te deixarei de todo impune.
