1 The word which came unto Jeremiah from Yahweh,when King Zedekiah sent unto him Pashhur, son of Malchiah, and Zephaniah, son of Maaseiah, the priest, saying:2 Enquire for us I pray thee of Yahweh, in that Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, maketh war against us,Peradventure Yahweh will deal with us according to all his wonders, as that he go up from us.3 Then said Jeremiah unto them,Thus, shall ye say unto Zedekiah:4 Thus, saith Yahweh, God of IsraelBehold me! turning back the weapons of war that are in your hand, wherewith, ye, are fighting the king of Babylon and the Chaldeans, who are besieging you outside the wall,and I will gather them into the midst of this city.5 And I myself, will fight against you, with a hand outstretched, and with an arm of strength,and with anger and with wrath and with great indignation;6 and I will smite the inhabitants of this city, both man and beast,of a great pestilence, shall they die.7 And after that, Declareth YahwehWill I deliver Zedekiah king of Judah and his servants, and the peopleeven such as are left in this city from the pestilence from the sword and from the famine,into the hand of Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, even into the hand of their enemies, and into the hand of them who are seeking their life,and he will smite them with the edge of the sword, he will not have pity on them nor will he spare nor will he have compassion.8 And unto this people, shalt thou say, Thus, saith Yahweh,Behold me! setting before you the way, of life, and the way of death:9 He that remaineth in this city, shall dieby the sword ors by the famine or by the pestilence,Whereas, he that goeth forth and falleth unto the Chaldeans, who are besieging you,then shall he live, and, his life, shall become to him, a spoil;10 For I have set my face against this city, for calamity and not for blessing, Declareth Yahweh,Into the hand of the king of Babylon, shall it be given up, and he will burn it with fire.11 Now, as to the house of the king of Judah,hear ye the word of Yahweh:12 O house of David! Thus, saith Yahweh, Administer justice betimes, And deliver the robbed out of the hand of the oppressor,Lest mine indignation come forth like fire And burn and there be none to quench it, Because of the wickedness of your doings:13 Behold me! against thee, O thou dweller in the vale on the level rock, Declareth Yahweh,Ye who are saying, Who shall come down upon us? Who shall enter our habitations?14 Yet will I bring punishment upon you according to the fruit of your doings, Declareth Yahweh,and will kindle a fire in her forest, and it shall devour all things round about her.

1 A palavra que veio a Jeremias da parte do Senhor, quando o rei Zedequias lhe enviou a Pasur, filho de Malquias, e a Sofonias, filho de Maaseias, o sacerdote, dizendo: 2 Pergunta, agora, por nós, ao Senhor, por que Nabucodonosor, rei de Babilônia, guerreia contra nós; bem pode ser que o Senhor opere conosco segundo todas as suas maravilhas e o faça retirar-se de nós.

3 Então, Jeremias lhes disse: Assim direis a Zedequias. 4 Assim diz o Senhor, o Deus de Israel: Eis que virarei contra vós as armas de guerra que estão nas vossas mãos, com que vós pelejais contra o rei de Babilônia e contra os caldeus, que vos têm cercado fora dos muros; e ajuntá-los-ei no meio desta cidade. 5 E eu pelejarei contra vós com mão estendida, e com braço forte, e com ira, e com indignação, e com grande furor. 6 E ferirei os habitantes desta cidade, assim os homens como os animais; de grande pestilência morrerão. 7 E, depois disto, diz o Senhor, entregarei Zedequias, rei de Judá, e seus servos, e o povo, e os que desta cidade restarem da pestilência, e da espada, e da fome na mão de Nabucodonosor, rei de Babilônia, e na mão de seus inimigos, e na mão dos que buscam a sua vida; e feri-los-á a fio de espada; não os poupará, nem se compadecerá, nem terá misericórdia.

8 E a este povo dirás: Assim diz o Senhor: Eis que ponho diante de vós o caminho da vida e o caminho da morte. 9 O que ficar nesta cidade há de morrer à espada, ou à fome, ou da pestilência; mas o que sair e se render aos caldeus, que vos têm cercado, viverá e terá a sua vida por despojo. 10 Porque pus o rosto contra esta cidade para mal e não para bem, diz o Senhor; na mão do rei de Babilônia se entregará, e ele a queimará a fogo.

11 E à casa do rei de Judá dirás: Ouvi a palavra do Senhor! 12 Ó casa de Davi, assim diz o Senhor: Julgai pela manhã justamente e livrai o espoliado da mão do opressor; para que não saia o meu furor como fogo e se acenda, sem que haja quem o apague, por causa da maldade de vossas ações.

13 Eis que eu sou contra ti, ó moradora do vale, ó rocha da campina, diz o Senhor; contra vós que dizeis: Quem descerá contra nós? Ou: Quem entrará nas nossas moradas? 14 E eu vos visitarei segundo o fruto das vossas ações, diz o Senhor; e acenderei o fogo no seu bosque, que consumirá a tudo o que está em redor dela.
