1 And it came to pass, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah, king of Judah, that this word came unto Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying:2 Take thee a scroll, and write therein all the words which I have spoken unto thee concerning Israel and concerning Judah and concerning all the nations,from the day I began to speak unto thee from the days of Josiah, even until this day:3 Peradventure, the house of Judah will hearken unto all the calamity, which I am devising to execute against them,to the end they may return every man from his wicked way, whereupon I will forgive their iniquity, and their sin.4 So Jeremiah called Baruch, son of Neriah,and Baruch wrote, from the mouth of Jeremiah, all the words of Yahweh which he had spoken unto him upon a scroll.5 Then did Jeremiah command Baruch, saying,I, am hindered, I cannot enter the house of Yahweh;6 Thou, therefore shalt enter and read in the roll which thou hast written from my mouth the words of Yahweh in the ears of the people in the house of Yahweh on the day of a fast,moreover also, in the ears of all Judah who are coming in out of their cities, shalt thou read them:7 Peradventure, their supplication, will fall prostrate, before Yahweh, and they return every man from his wicked way,For, great, are the anger and the indignation which Yahweh hath spoken against this people.8 So then Baruch son of Neriah did according to all which Jeremiah the prophet commanded him, reading in the book the words of Yahweh in the house of Yahweh.9 And it came to pass in the fifth year of Jehoiakim son of Josiah king of Judah in the ninth month, that all the people of Jerusalem, and all the people who were coming in out of the cities of Judah into Jerusalem, had proclaimed a fast before Yahweh;10 Baruch, therefore, read in the book the words of Jeremiah, in the house of Yahweh,in the chamber of Gemariah son of Shaphanthe scribe, in the upper court, at the opening of the new gate of the house of Yahweh, in the ears of all the people.11 When Micaiah, son of Gemariah son of Shaphan, heard all the words of Yahweh out of the book,12 then went he down unto the house of the king up to the chamber of the scribe, and lo! there, all the princes sitting,Elishama the scribe, and Delaiah son of Shemaiah, and Elnathan son of Achbor, and Gemariah son of Shaphan and Zedekiah son of Hananiah, and all the princes,13 So Micaiah told them all the words which he heard,when Baruch read in the book in the ears of the people.14 All the princes, therefore sent unto Baruch, Jehudi, son of Nethaniah son of Shelemiah son of Cushi saying, The roll wherein thou didst read in the ears of the people, take it in thy hand, and come, So Baruch son of Neriah took the roll in his hand, and came in unto them.15 Then said they unto him, Sit down we pray thee and read it in our ears, So Baruch read it in their ears.16 And it came to pass when they heard all the words, that they turned with fear one to another,and said unto Baruch, We must, surely tell, the king, all these words!17 Then unto Baruch, put they questions saying,Tell us, we pray thee, How, didst thou write all these words at his mouth?18 So Baruch said unto them, With his own mouth, used he to proclaim unto me all these words,and I kept on writing in the book, with ink.19 Then said the princes unto Baruch, Go hide thee, thou and Jeremiah, and let no man, know where ye, are!20 Then went they in unto the king, into the court, but the roll, had they put in charge, in the chamber of Elishama the scribe,so they declared in the ears of the king all the words.21 The king, therefore sent, Jehudi, to fetch the roll, and he fetched it out of the chamber of Elishama the scribe,and Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes who were standing near the king.22 Now, the king, was sitting in the winter house in the ninth month,with the fire-stove before him burning.23 So then it came to pass when Jehudi had read three or four columns that he cut it up into fragments with a scribes knife, and cast them into the fire that was in the stove,until, all the roll, was consumed on the fire that was on the stove.24 Yet were they not in dread, neither rent they their garments,the king, nor any of his servants that were hearing all these words.25 Nevertheless Elnathan and Delaiah and Gemariah, interceded with the king, not to burn the roll,but he hearkened not unto them.26 Then did the king command Jerahmeel son of the king, and Seraiah son of Azriel, and Shelemiah son of Abdeel, to fetch Baruch the scribe, and Jeremiah the prophet,but Yahweh had hid them.27 Then came the word of Yahweh unto Jeremiah, after the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch had written from the mouth of Jeremiah saying:28 Again take thee another roll, and write thereon, all the former words which were on the first roll, which Jehoiakim king of Judah hath burned.29 But unto Jehoiakim king of Judah, shalt thou say, Thus, saith Yahweh,Thou, hast burned this roll saying, Why hast thou written thereonsaying, The king of Babylon shall, certainly, come and lay waste this land, and cause to cease therefrom man and beast?30 Therefore, Thus, saith Yahweh, Concerning Jehoiakim king of Judah,He shall have none to sit upon the throne of David,And, his dead body, shall be cast outto the heat by day, and to the frost by night;31 And I will visit upon him and upon his seed and upon his servants the punishment of their iniquity,and will bring upon them and upon the inhabitants of Jerusalem and against, the men of Judah, all the calamity, which I have spoken against them but they have not hearkened.32 So, Jeremiah, took another roll and gave it unto Baruch son of Neriah the scribe, who wrote thereon, from the mouth of Jeremiah all the words of the book, which Jehoiakim king of Judah had burned, in the fire,and further were added thereunto many words like unto them

1 Sucedeu, pois, no ano quarto de Jeoaquim, filho de Josias, rei de Judá, que veio esta palavra do Senhor a Jeremias, dizendo: 2 Toma o rolo de um livro e escreve nele todas as palavras que te tenho falado sobre Israel, e sobre Judá, e sobre todas as nações, desde o dia em que eu te falei a ti, desde os dias de Josias até hoje. 3 Ouvirão, talvez, os da casa de Judá todo o mal que eu intento fazer-lhes, para que cada qual se converta do seu mau caminho, e eu perdoe a sua maldade e o seu pecado. 4 Então, Jeremias chamou a Baruque, filho de Nerias; e escreveu Baruque da boca de Jeremias todas as palavras do Senhor, que ele lhe tinha revelado, no rolo de um livro.

5 E Jeremias deu ordem a Baruque, dizendo: Eu estou encerrado e não posso entrar na Casa do Senhor. 6 Entra, pois, tu e lê pelo rolo que escreveste da minha boca as palavras do Senhor aos ouvidos do povo, na Casa do Senhor, no dia de jejum; e também aos ouvidos de todo o Judá vindo das suas cidades as lerás. 7 Pode ser que caia a sua súplica diante do Senhor, e se converta cada um do seu mau caminho, porque grande é a ira e o furor que o Senhor tem manifestado contra este povo. 8 E fez Baruque, filho de Nerias, conforme tudo quanto lhe havia ordenado Jeremias, o profeta, lendo naquele livro as palavras do Senhor na Casa do Senhor.

9 E aconteceu, no ano quinto de Jeoaquim, filho de Josias, rei de Judá, no mês nono, que apregoaram jejum diante do Senhor a todo o povo em Jerusalém, como também a todo o povo que vinha das cidades de Judá a Jerusalém. 10 Leu, pois, Baruque naquele livro as palavras de Jeremias na Casa do Senhor, na câmara de Gemarias, filho de Safã, o escriba, no átrio superior, à entrada da Porta Nova da Casa do Senhor, aos ouvidos de todo o povo.

11 E, ouvindo Miqueias, filho de Gemarias, filho de Safã, todas as palavras do Senhor, naquele livro, 12 desceu à casa do rei, à câmara do escriba. E eis que todos os príncipes estavam ali assentados: Elisama, o escriba; e Delaías, filho de Semaías; e Elnatã, filho de Acbor; e Gemarias, filho de Safã; e Zedequias, filho de Hananias; e todos os outros príncipes. 13 E Miqueias anunciou-lhes todas as palavras que ouvira, lendo-as Baruque, pelo livro, aos ouvidos do povo. 14 Então, todos os príncipes mandaram Jeudi, filho de Netanias, filho de Selemias, filho de Cusi, dizer a Baruque: O rolo que leste aos ouvidos do povo, toma-o nas tuas mãos, e vem. E Baruque, filho de Nerias, tomou o rolo nas suas mãos, e veio a eles. 15 E disseram-lhe: Assenta-te, agora, e lê-o aos nossos ouvidos. E leu Baruque aos ouvidos deles. 16 E sucedeu que, ouvindo eles todas aquelas palavras, se voltaram temerosos uns para os outros e disseram a Baruque: Sem dúvida nenhuma, anunciaremos ao rei todas estas palavras. 17 E perguntaram a Baruque, dizendo: Declara-nos, agora, como escreveste da sua boca todas estas palavras. 18 E disse-lhes Baruque: Com a sua boca, ditava-me todas estas palavras, e eu as escrevia, no livro, com tinta. 19 Então, disseram os príncipes a Baruque: Vai e esconde-te, tu e Jeremias, e ninguém saiba onde estais.

20 E foram ter com o rei ao átrio; mas depositaram o rolo na câmara de Elisama, o escriba, e anunciaram aos ouvidos do rei todas aquelas palavras. 21 Então, enviou o rei a Jeudi, para que trouxesse o rolo; e Jeudi tomou-o da câmara de Elisama, o escriba, e leu-o aos ouvidos do rei e aos ouvidos de todos os príncipes que estavam em torno do rei. 22 (Estava, então, o rei assentado na casa de inverno, pelo nono mês; e estava diante dele um braseiro aceso.) 23 E sucedeu que, tendo Jeudi lido três ou quatro folhas, cortou-o o rei com um canivete de escrivão e lançou-o ao fogo que havia no braseiro, até que todo o rolo se consumiu no fogo que estava sobre o braseiro. 24 E não temeram, nem rasgaram as suas vestes o rei e todos os seus servos que ouviram todas aquelas palavras. 25 Posto que Elnatã, e Delaías, e Gemarias tivessem pedido ao rei que não queimasse o rolo, ele não lhes deu ouvidos; 26 antes, deu ordem o rei a Jerameel, filho de Hameleque, e a Seraías, filho de Azriel, e a Selemias, filho de Abdeel, que prendessem Baruque, o escrivão, e Jeremias, o profeta. Mas o Senhor tinha-os escondido.

27 Então, veio a Jeremias a palavra do Senhor, depois que o rei queimara o rolo, com as palavras que Baruque escrevera da boca de Jeremias, dizendo: 28 Toma ainda outro rolo e escreve nele todas as palavras que estavam no primeiro volume, o qual Jeoaquim, rei de Judá, queimou. 29 E a Jeoaquim, rei de Judá, dirás: Assim diz o Senhor: Tu queimaste este rolo, dizendo: Por que escreveste nele anunciando: Certamente, virá o rei da Babilônia, e destruirá esta terra, e fará cessar nela homens e animais? 30 Portanto, assim diz o Senhor acerca de Jeoaquim, rei de Judá: Não terá quem se assente sobre o trono de Davi, e será lançado o seu cadáver ao calor de dia e à geada de noite. 31 E visitarei sobre ele, e sobre a sua semente, e sobre os seus servos a sua iniquidade; e trarei sobre ele, e sobre os moradores de Jerusalém, e sobre os homens de Judá todo aquele mal que lhes tenho falado sem que me ouvissem. 32 Tomou, pois, Jeremias outro rolo e o deu a Baruque, filho de Nerias, o escrivão, o qual escreveu nele, da boca de Jeremias, todas as palavras do livro que Jeoaquim, rei de Judá, tinha queimado; e ainda se acrescentaram a elas muitas palavras semelhantes.
