1 In the ninth year of Zedekiah king of Judah, in the tenth month, came Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon and all his force against Jerusalem, and they besieged it.2 In the eleventh year of Zedekiah, in the fourth month on the ninth of the month, was the city broken into.3 Then came in all the princes of the king of Babylon, and sat in the middle gate,Nergal-sharezer, Samgar-nebo, Sarsechim, chief eunuch Nergal-sharezer, chief soothsayer, and all the residue of the princes of the king of Babylon.4 And it came to pass as soon as Zedekiah king of Judah and all the men of war saw them, that they fled, and went forth by night out of the city, by way of the kings garden, through the gate between the two walls,and he went forth by way of the waste plain.5 But the force of the Chaldeans pursued them, and overtook Zedekiah in the waste plains of Jericho, and when they had taken him, they brought him up unto Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon, to Riblah, in the land of Hamath,and pronounced upon him sentences of judgment.6 And the king of Babylon slew the sons of Zedekiah, in Riblah before his eyes,and all the nobles of Judah, did the king of Babylon slay;7 and the eyes of Zedekiah, did he put out, and bound him with fetters of bronze to bring him into Babylon.8 And the house of the king, and the houses of the people, did the Chaldeans burn with fire, and the walls of Jerusalem, brake they down;9 and the remnant of the people who were left in the city, and the disheartened who fell away unto him, and the remnant of the people who were left, did Nebuzaradan chief of the royal executioners, take captive to Babylon.10 But of the poor people, who had, nothing, did Nebuzaradan chief of the royal executioners, leave remaining in the land of Judah, and gave them vineyards and ploughed fields on the same day.11 Then Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon gave command, concerning Jeremiah,through Nebuzaradan chief of the royal executioners saying:12 Take him and, thine eyes, set thou upon him, and do not unto him any harmful thing,but just as he shall speak unto thee, so, shalt thou do with him.13 So Nebuzaradan chief of the royal executioners, sent, also Nebushazban, chief of the eunuchs, and Nergal-sharezer chief of the magi, and all the chiefs of the king of Babylon;14 yea they sent and fetched Jeremiah out of the guard-court, and delivered him unto Gedaliah son of Ahikam son of Shaphan, to bring him forth into a home, so he dwelt in the midst of the people.15 Now unto Jeremiah, had come the word of Yahweh, while he was yet shut up in the guard-court, saying:16 Go and speak to Ebed-melech the Ethiopian, saying,Thus saith Yahweh of hosts God of Israel, Behold me! bringing about my words against this city, for, calamityand not for blessing,and they shall come to pass before thee, in that day.17 But I will deliver thee in that day, Declareth Yahweh,and thou shalt not be given up into the hand of the men from the face of whom, thou, mightest shrink with fear.18 For I wilt, surely, deliver, thee, and by the sword, shalt thou not fall,but thou shalt have thine own life as a spoil, Because thou hast trusted in me, Declareth Yahweh.

1 No ano nono de Zedequias, rei de Judá, no mês décimo, veio Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, e todo o seu exército contra Jerusalém e a cercaram. 2 No ano undécimo de Zedequias, no quarto mês, aos nove do mês, se fez a brecha na cidade. 3 E entraram todos os príncipes do rei da Babilônia, e pararam na Porta do Meio, os quais eram Nergal-Sarezer, Sangar-Nebo, Sarsequim, Rabe-Saris, Nergal-Sarezer, Rabe-Mague, e todos os outros príncipes do rei da Babilônia. 4 E sucedeu que, vendo-os Zedequias, rei de Judá, e todos os homens de guerra, fugiram, então e saíram de noite da cidade, pelo caminho do jardim do rei, pela porta dentre os dois muros; e saiu pelo caminho da campina. 5 Mas o exército dos caldeus os perseguiu; e alcançaram Zedequias nas campinas de Jericó, e o prenderam, e o fizeram ir a Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, a Ribla, na terra de Hamate, e ali o rei da Babilônia o sentenciou. 6 E o rei da Babilônia matou os filhos de Zedequias em Ribla, à sua vista; também matou o rei da Babilônia todos os nobres de Judá. 7 E arrancou os olhos a Zedequias e o atou com duas cadeias de bronze, para levá-lo à Babilônia.

8 E os caldeus queimaram a casa do rei e as casas do povo e derribaram os muros de Jerusalém. 9 E o resto do povo que ficara na cidade, e os rebeldes que se tinham passado para ele, e o resto do povo que ficou levou Nebuzaradã, capitão da guarda, para Babilônia. 10 Mas os pobres de entre o povo, que não tinham nada, deixou Nebuzaradã, capitão da guarda, na terra de Judá; e deu-lhes vinhas e campos naquele dia.

11 Mas Nabucodonosor, rei da Babilônia, havia ordenado acerca de Jeremias, a Nebuzaradã, capitão dos da guarda, dizendo: 12 Toma-o, e põe sobre ele os olhos, e não lhe faças nenhum mal; antes, como ele te disser, assim procederás para com ele. 13 Deste modo, Nebuzaradã, capitão dos da guarda, ordenou a Nebusazbã, Rabe-Saris, Nergal-Sarezer, Rabe-Mague e todos os príncipes do rei da Babilônia. 14 Mandaram retirar Jeremias do átrio da guarda e o entregaram a Gedalias, filho de Aicão, filho de Safã, para que o levasse à sua casa; e ele ficou entre o povo.

15 Ora, tinha vindo a Jeremias a palavra do Senhor, estando ele ainda encerrado no átrio da guarda, dizendo: 16 Vai e fala a Ebede-Meleque, o etíope, dizendo: Assim diz o Senhor dos Exércitos, Deus de Israel: Eis que eu trarei as minhas palavras sobre esta cidade para mal e não para bem; e se cumprirão diante de ti naquele dia. 17 A ti, porém, eu livrarei naquele dia, diz o Senhor, e não serás entregue nas mãos dos homens perante cuja face tu temes. 18 Porque, certamente, te salvarei, e não cairás à espada; mas a tua alma terás por despojo, porquanto confiaste em mim, diz o Senhor.
