1 And when Pashhur son of Immer, the priest, who also was deputy-overseer in the house of Yahweh, heard that Jeremiah had prophesied these things,2 then Pashhur smote Jeremiah the prophet,and put him in the stocks that were in the upper gate of Benjamin, which was in the house of Yahweh.3 And it came to pass on the morrow, when Pashhur brought forth Jeremiah out of the stocks,that Jeremiah said unto himNot Pashhur, hath Yahweh called thy name, But Magor-missaviv. \fs154 For, Thus, saith YahwehBehold me! making thee a terror to thyself and to all who love thee, and they shall fall by the sword of their enemies, thine own eyes also, beholding, And all Judah, will I deliver into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will carry them captive to Babylon and smite them with the sword. \fs155 And I will deliver upAll the wealth of this city, and All her labour, and All her precious things,And all the treasures of the kings of Judah, will I deliver up into the hands of their enemies, and they will make of them a prey, and take them, and carry them into Babylon.6 And, thou, Pashhur and all who are dwelling in thy house, shall go into captivity,Yea into Babylon, shalt thou enter And there, shalt thou die And there, shalt thou be buried Thou and all who love thee, to whom thou hast prophesied falsely.7 Thou didst persuade me, O Yahweh and I was persuaded, Thou didst lay firm hold on me and didst prevail,I am become a mockery, all the day, Every one, is laughing at me.8 For, as often as I speak, I make outcry, Violence and wasting, I proclaim,Yea the word of Yahweh hath become to me a reproach and derision lull the day9 Therefore I sayI will not mention him Neither will I speak any more in his name, But then it becometh in my heart as a fire that burneth, Shut up in my bones,And I am weary of restraint and cannot refrain.10 Because I have heard the whispering of many"A terror round about!" Tell ye , that we may tell of him, All the men I am wont to salute do watch for my halting,Peradventure he will be persuaded, and we shall prevail over him, and take our vengeance upon him.11 But, Yahweh, is with me, as a mighty one striking terror, For this cause, shall my persecutors stumble and not prevail,They have turned very pale, For they have not prospered, Confusion age-abiding, it shall not be forgotten!12 But O Yahweh of hostsTesting the righteous Beholding the affections and the heart,Let me see thine avenging upon them, For unto thee, have I laid bare my cause.13 Sing ye to Yahweh! Praise ye Yahweh! For he hath delivered the soul of the needy, out of the hand of evildoers.14 Accursed, be the day on which I was born,The day when my mother bare me, let it not be blessed!15 Accursed, be the man who carried tidings to my father saying, There is born to thee a man-child!16 Making him very glad: Yea let that man beas the cities which Yahweh overthrew and repented not,And let him hear An outcry in the morning, and A war-shout at broad noon!17 Because I was not slain from the womb,Nor did my mother become my grave, Nor was her womb great for ever!18 Wherefore was itThat from the womb, I came forth, to see labour and pain; and That in shame should my days be consumed!

1 E Pasur, filho de Imer, o sacerdote, que havia sido nomeado presidente na Casa do Senhor, ouviu a Jeremias, que profetizava estas coisas. 2 E feriu Pasur ao profeta Jeremias, e o meteu no cepo que está na porta superior de Benjamim, a qual está na Casa do Senhor. 3 E sucedeu que, no dia seguinte, Pasur tirou a Jeremias do cepo. Então, disse-lhe Jeremias: O Senhor não chama o teu nome Pasur, mas Magor-Missabibe. 4 Porque assim diz o Senhor: Eis que farei de ti um terror para ti mesmo e para todos os teus amigos; eles cairão à espada de seus inimigos, e teus olhos o verão; todo o Judá entregarei na mão do rei de Babilônia; ele os levará presos a Babilônia e feri-los-á à espada. 5 Também darei toda a fazenda desta cidade, e todo o seu trabalho, e todas as suas coisas preciosas; sim, todos os tesouros dos reis de Judá entregarei na mão de seus inimigos, os quais saqueá-los-ão, tomá-los-ão e levá-los-ão a Babilônia. 6 E tu, Pasur, e todos os moradores da tua casa ireis para o cativeiro; e irás a Babilônia, e ali morrerás, e ali serás sepultado, tu e todos os teus amigos, aos quais profetizaste falsamente.

7 Iludiste-me, ó Senhor, e iludido fiquei; mais forte foste do que eu e prevaleceste; sirvo de escárnio todo o dia; cada um deles zomba de mim. 8 Porque, desde que falo, grito e clamo: Violência e destruição! Porque se tornou a palavra do Senhor um opróbrio para mim e um ludíbrio todo o dia. 9 Então, disse eu: Não me lembrarei dele e não falarei mais no seu nome; mas isso foi no meu coração como fogo ardente, encerrado nos meus ossos; e estou fatigado de sofrer e não posso. 10 Porque ouvi a murmuração de muitos: Há terror de todos os lados! Denunciai, e o denunciaremos! Todos os que têm paz comigo aguardam o meu manquejar, dizendo: Bem pode ser que se deixe persuadir; então, prevaleceremos contra ele e nos vingaremos dele. 11 Mas o Senhor está comigo como um valente terrível; por isso, tropeçarão os meus perseguidores e não prevalecerão; ficarão mui confundidos; como não se houveram prudentemente, terão uma confusão perpétua, que nunca se esquecerá. 12 Tu, pois, ó Senhor dos Exércitos, que provas o justo e vês os pensamentos e o coração, veja eu a tua vingança sobre eles, pois te descobri a minha causa. 13 Cantai ao Senhor, louvai ao Senhor; pois livrou a alma do necessitado da mão dos malfeitores.

14 Maldito o dia em que nasci; o dia em que minha mãe me deu à luz não seja bendito. 15 Maldito o homem que deu as novas a meu pai, dizendo: Nasceu-te um filho; alegrando-o com isso grandemente. 16 E seja esse homem como as cidades que o Senhor destruiu sem que se arrependesse; e ouça ele clamor pela manhã e, ao tempo do meio-dia, um alarido. 17 Por que não me matou desde a madre? Ou minha mãe não foi minha sepultura? Ou não ficou grávida perpetuamente? 18 Por que saí da madre para ver trabalho e tristeza e para que se consumam os meus dias na confusão?
