1 Ο Κύριος απάντησε στο Μωυσή: «Σε έκανα να είσαι για το Φαραώ Θεός, κι ο αδερφός σου ο Ααρών, να είναι ο προφήτης σου. 2 Εσύ θα του διαβιβάζεις όλα όσα θα σε διατάζω, κι εκείνος θα μιλάει στο Φαραώ, ώστε ν’ αφήσει τους Ισραηλίτες να φύγουν από τη χώρα του. 3 Εγώ όμως θα κάνω ακόμα πιο άκαμπτη τη διάθεση του Φαραώ. Παρ’ όλες τις πολυάριθμες αποδείξεις μου και τα τρομερά θαύματα που θα κάνω στην Αίγυπτο, 4 αυτός δεν θα σας ακούσει. Τότε θ’ απλώσω το χέρι μου εναντίον των Αιγυπτίων και θα τους τιμωρήσω με βαριές ποινές και θα οδηγήσω το λαό μου τον Ισραήλ να βγει με τάξη απ’ αυτήν τη χώρα. 5 Όταν λοιπόν απλώσω το χέρι μου εναντίον των Αιγυπτίων και βγάλω τους Ισραηλίτες απ’ ανάμεσά τους, τότε θα δουν οι Αιγύπτιοι ότι εγώ είμαι ο Κύριος».

6 Ο Μωυσής κι ο Ααρών έκαναν ό,τι ακριβώς τους διέταξε ο Κύριος. 7 Ο Μωυσής ήταν ογδόντα ετών κι ο Ααρών ογδόντα τριών, όταν παρουσιάστηκαν και μίλησαν στο Φαραώ.

8 Ο Κύριος είπε στο Μωυσή και στον Ααρών: 9 «Αν ο Φαραώ σας πει, "κάμετέ μου ένα θαύμα", τότε εσύ, Μωυσή, θα πεις στον Ααρών: "πάρε το ραβδί σου και ρίξε το μπροστά στο Φαραώ και θα γίνει φίδι"».

10 Ήρθαν λοιπόν, ο Μωυσής και ο Ααρών στο Φαραώ, και έκαναν όπως τους είχε διατάξει ο Κύριος: Ο Ααρών έριξε το ραβδί του μπροστά στο Φαραώ και στους αυλικούς του, και το ραβδί έγινε φίδι. 11 Τότε ο Φαραώ κάλεσε τους σοφούς και τους μάγους των Αιγυπτίων, και έκαναν κι εκείνοι τα ίδια με την τέχνη τους. 12 Έριξε ο καθένας το ραβδί του κάτω, και τα ραβδιά έγιναν φίδια. Αλλά το ραβδί του Ααρών κατάπιε τα ραβδιά των μάγων.

13 Παρ’ όλα αυτά η καρδιά του Φαραώ έμεινε σκληρή και δεν τους άκουσε, όπως το είχε πει ο Κύριος.

14 Ο Κύριος είπε στο Μωυσή: «Ο Φαραώ παραμένει άκαμπτος και αρνείται ν’ αφήσει το λαό να φύγει. 15 Πήγαινε, λοιπόν, αύριο το πρωί, όταν αυτός θα βγαίνει για το ποτάμι και στάσου απέναντί του κοντά στην όχθη του Νείλου· πάρε στο χέρι σου και το ραβδί που είχε γίνει φίδι. 16 Και θα του πεις: "Ο Κύριος, ο Θεός των Εβραίων, με έστειλε σ’ εσένα να σου πω ν’ αφήσεις το λαό του να φύγει, για να τον λατρεύσει στην έρημο. Εσύ όμως δεν άκουσες μέχρι σήμερα. 17 Τώρα ο Κύριος λέει ότι μ’ αυτό που θα κάνει, θα γνωρίσεις πως αυτός είναι ο Κύριος. Με το ραβδί που κρατώ στο χέρι μου, θα χτυπήσω τα νερά του Νείλου και θα γίνουν αίμα. 18 Τα ψάρια του ποταμού θα ψοφήσουν και θα βρωμήσει ο Νείλος· και οι Αιγύπτιοι θα σιχαίνονται να πιουν νερό απ’ αυτόν"».

19 Είπε ακόμα ο Κύριος στο Μωυσή: «Πες στον Ααρών να πάρει το ραβδί του και ν’ απλώσει το χέρι του προς τα νερά της Αιγύπτου, τα ποτάμια, τα κανάλια και τις λίμνες της χώρας, και προς κάθε μέρος όπου υπάρχουν μαζεμένα νερά, ώστε τα νερά να γίνουν αίμα σ’ όλη την Αίγυπτο· ακόμα και μέσα στα ξύλινα και στα πέτρινα δοχεία το νερό θα γίνει αίμα».

20 Ο Μωυσής με τον Ααρών έκαναν όπως ακριβώς τους είχε διατάξει ο Κύριος. Σήκωσε το ραβδί του ο Ααρών και χτύπησε τα νερά του Νείλου, μπροστά στα μάτια του Φαραώ και των αυλικών του, κι όλο το νερό του ποταμού έγινε αίμα. 21 Τα ψάρια ψόφησαν, και βρώμησε ο Νείλος, έτσι που οι Αιγύπτιοι δεν μπορούσαν να πιουν νερό απ’ αυτόν. Ολόκληρη η χώρα της Αιγύπτου γέμισε αίμα.

22 Αλλά το ίδιο έκαναν και οι μάγοι των Αιγυπτίων με την τέχνη τους· έτσι ο Φαραώ έμεινε άκαμπτος, όπως το είχε πει ο Κύριος, και δεν άκουσε το Μωυσή και τον Ααρών. 23 Ο Φαραώ γύρισε στο παλάτι του χωρίς να λάβει υπόψη ούτε αυτό το γεγονός. 24 Αλλά όλοι οι Αιγύπτιοι έσκαβαν γύρω από τον Νείλο, για να βρουν νερό να πιουν, γιατί το νερό του Νείλου δεν πινόταν.

25 Πέρασαν εφτά μέρες, αφότου ο Κύριος χτύπησε το Νείλο. 26 Τότε*Σε ορισμένες μετ. οι στ. 7:26–8:28 αριθμούνται ως 8:1-32. ο Κύριος έδωσε εντολή στο Μωυσή να πάει στο Φαραώ και να του πει: «Ο Κύριος λέει: "άσε το λαό μου να πάει να με λατρεύσει. 27 Και αν αρνηθείς να τον αφήσεις, εγώ θα στείλω σ’ ολόκληρη την περιοχή σου βατράχους. 28 Ο Νείλος θα βγάλει βατράχους, που θ’ ανεβούν και θα μπουν στο ανάκτορό σου, στα υπνοδωμάτιά σου και πάνω στο κρεβάτι σου· θα μπουν στα σπίτια των αυλικών σου και του λαού σου, στους φούρνους και στα ζυμωτήρια. 29 Θα πηδάνε πάνω σου, πάνω στους αυλικούς σου και πάνω σ’ όλο το λαό σου"».

1 And the LORD said unto Moses, See, I have made thee a god to Pharaoh: and Aaron thy brother shall be thy prophet. 2 Thou shalt speak all that I command thee: and Aaron thy brother shall speak unto Pharaoh, that he send the children of Israel out of his land. 3 And I will harden Pharaoh’s heart, and multiply my signs and my wonders in the land of Egypt. 4 But Pharaoh shall not hearken unto you, that I may lay my hand upon Egypt, and bring forth mine armies, and my people the children of Israel, out of the land of Egypt by great judgments. 5 And the Egyptians shall know that I am the LORD, when I stretch forth mine hand upon Egypt, and bring out the children of Israel from among them. 6 And Moses and Aaron did as the LORD commanded them, so did they. 7 And Moses was fourscore years old, and Aaron fourscore and three years old, when they spake unto Pharaoh.

8 And the LORD spake unto Moses and unto Aaron, saying, 9 When Pharaoh shall speak unto you, saying, Shew a miracle for you: then thou shalt say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and cast it before Pharaoh, and it shall become a serpent.

10 And Moses and Aaron went in unto Pharaoh, and they did so as the LORD had commanded: and Aaron cast down his rod before Pharaoh, and before his servants, and it became a serpent. 11 Then Pharaoh also called the wise men and the sorcerers: now the magicians of Egypt, they also did in like manner with their enchantments. 12 For they cast down every man his rod, and they became serpents: but Aaron’s rod swallowed up their rods. 13 And he hardened Pharaoh’s heart, that he hearkened not unto them; as the LORD had said.

14 And the LORD said unto Moses, Pharaoh’s heart is hardened, he refuseth to let the people go. 15 Get thee unto Pharaoh in the morning; lo, he goeth out unto the water; and thou shalt stand by the river’s brink against he come; and the rod which was turned to a serpent shalt thou take in thine hand. 16 And thou shalt say unto him, The LORD God of the Hebrews hath sent me unto thee, saying, Let my people go, that they may serve me in the wilderness: and, behold, hitherto thou wouldest not hear. 17 Thus saith the LORD, In this thou shalt know that I am the LORD: behold, I will smite with the rod that is in mine hand upon the waters which are in the river, and they shall be turned to blood. 18 And the fish that is in the river shall die, and the river shall stink; and the Egyptians shall lothe to drink of the water of the river.

19 And the LORD spake unto Moses, Say unto Aaron, Take thy rod, and stretch out thine hand upon the waters of Egypt, upon their streams, upon their rivers, and upon their ponds, and upon all their pools of water, that they may become blood; and that there may be blood throughout all the land of Egypt, both in vessels of wood, and in vessels of stone.*7.19 pools…: Heb. gathering of their waters 20 And Moses and Aaron did so, as the LORD commanded; and he lifted up the rod, and smote the waters that were in the river, in the sight of Pharaoh, and in the sight of his servants; and all the waters that were in the river were turned to blood. 21 And the fish that was in the river died; and the river stank, and the Egyptians could not drink of the water of the river; and there was blood throughout all the land of Egypt. 22 And the magicians of Egypt did so with their enchantments: and Pharaoh’s heart was hardened, neither did he hearken unto them; as the LORD had said. 23 And Pharaoh turned and went into his house, neither did he set his heart to this also. 24 And all the Egyptians digged round about the river for water to drink; for they could not drink of the water of the river. 25 And seven days were fulfilled, after that the LORD had smitten the river.
