1 And Balaam said to Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams. 2 And Balak did as Balaam had said; and Balak and Balaam offered up a bullock and a ram on each altar. 3 And Balaam said to Balak, Stand by thy burnt-offering, and I will go; perhaps Jehovah will come to meet me; and whatever he shews me I will tell thee. And he went to a hill. 4 And God*GodHebrew: Elohim met Balaam; and Balaam said to him, I have disposed seven altars, and have offered up a bullock and a ram upon each altar. 5 And Jehovah put a word in Balaam’s mouth, and said, Return to Balak, and thus shalt thou speak. 6 And he returned to him, and behold, he was standing by his burnt-offering, he, and all the princes of Moab. 7 And he took up his parable, and said, Balak the king of Moab hath brought me from Aram, from the mountains of the east: Come, curse me Jacob, and come, denounce Israel! 8 How shall I curse whom ·God*GodHebrew: El hath not cursed? or how shall I denounce whom Jehovah doth not denounce? 9 For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: Lo, it is a people that shall dwell alone and shall not be reckoned among the nations. 10 Who can count the dust of Jacob, and the number of the fourth part of Israel? Let my soul die the death of the righteous, and let my end be like his! 11 And Balak said to Balaam, What hast thou done to me? I took thee to curse mine enemies, and behold, thou hast blessed them altogether. 12 And he answered and said, Must I not take heed to speak that which Jehovah puts in my mouth?

13 And Balak said to him, Come, I pray thee, with me to another place, from whence thou wilt see them; thou shalt see only the extremity of them and shalt not see them all, and curse me them from thence. 14 And he took him to the watchmen’s field, to the top of Pisgah, and built seven altars, and offered up a bullock and a ram on each altar. 15 And Balaam said to Balak, Stand here by thy burnt-offering, and I will go to meet yonder. 16 And Jehovah met Balaam, and put a word in his mouth, and said, Return to Balak, and thus shalt thou speak. 17 And he came to him, and behold, he was standing by his burnt-offering, and the princes of Moab with him; and Balak said to him, What has Jehovah spoken? 18 Then he took up his parable and said, Rise up, Balak, and hear! hearken unto me, son of Zippor! 19 ·God*GodHebrew: El is not a man, that he should lie; neither a son of man, that he should repent. Shall he say and not do? and shall he speak and not make it good? 20 Behold, I have received mission to bless; and he hath blessed, and I cannot reverse it. 21 He hath not beheld iniquity in Jacob, neither hath he seen wrong in Israel; Jehovah his God*GodHebrew: Elohim is with him, and the shout of a king is in his midst. 22 ·God*GodHebrew: El brought him out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of a buffalo. 23 For there is no enchantment against Jacob, neither is there any divination against Israel. At this time it shall be said of Jacob and of Israel, What hath ·God*GodHebrew: El wrought! 24 Lo, the people will rise up as a lioness, and lift himself up as a lion. He shall not lie down until he have eaten the prey and drunk the blood of the slain. 25 And Balak said to Balaam, Neither curse them at all, nor bless them at all. 26 And Balaam answered and said to Balak, Did I not tell thee, saying, All that Jehovah shall speak, that will I do? 27 And Balak said to Balaam, Come, I pray thee, I will bring thee to another place; perhaps it will be right in the sight of God*GodHebrew: Elohim that thou curse me them from thence. 28 And Balak brought Balaam to the top of Peor, which looks over the surface of the waste. 29 And Balaam said to Balak, Build me here seven altars, and prepare me here seven bullocks and seven rams. 30 And Balak did as Balaam had said, and offered up a bullock and a ram on each altar.

1 Balaam a zis lui Balac: „Zidește-mi*Vers. 29. aici șapte altare și pregătește-mi aici șapte viței și șapte berbeci." 2 Balac a făcut cum spusese Balaam, și Balac și Balaam au adus câte*Vers. 14,30. un vițel și câte un berbec pe fiecare altar. 3 Balaam a zis lui Balac: „Stai lângă*Vers. 15. arderea ta de tot, și eu mă voi depărta de ea; poate că Domnul îmi*Cap. 24:1. va ieși înainte și ce-mi va descoperi îți voi spune." Și s-a dus pe un loc înalt. 4 Dumnezeu*Vers. 16. a venit înaintea lui Balaam și Balaam I-a zis: „Am ridicat șapte altare și, pe fiecare altar, am adus câte un vițel și câte un berbec." 5 Domnul a pus*Cap. 22:35;23:16.Deut. 18:18.Ier. 1:9. cuvinte în gura lui Balaam și a zis: „Întoarce-te la Balac și așa să-i vorbești." 6 Balaam s-a întors la Balac și iată că Balac stătea lângă arderea lui de tot, el și toate căpeteniile Moabului.

7 Balaam și-a*Vers. 18. Cap. 24:3,15,23.Iov 27:1;29:1.Ps. 78:2.Ezec. 17:2.Mica 2:4.Hab. 2:6. rostit prorocia și a zis:

„Balac m-a adus din Aram (Mesopotamia).

Împăratul Moabului m-a chemat din munții Răsăritului, zicând:

‘Vino*Cap. 22:6,11,17. și blestemă-mi pe Iacov!

Vino și defăimează-mi pe Israel!’

8 Cum*Is. 47:12,13. să blestem eu pe cel ce nu-l blestemă Dumnezeu?

Cum să defăimez eu pe cel pe care nu-l defăimează Domnul?

9 Îl văd din vârful stâncilor,

Îl privesc de pe înălțimea dealurilor:

Este*Deut. 33:28. un popor care locuiește deoparte

Și nu*Exod 33:16.Ezra 9:2.Efes. 2:14. face parte dintre neamuri.

10 Cine*Gen. 13:16;22:17. poate să numere pulberea lui Iacov

Și să spună numărul unui sfert din Israel?

O, de aș muri de moartea*Ps. 116:15. celor neprihăniți

Și sfârșitul meu să fie ca al lor!"

11 Balac a zis lui Balaam: „Ce mi-ai făcut? Te-am*Cap. 22:11,17;24:10. luat să blestemi pe vrăjmașul meu, și iată că tu-l binecuvântezi!" 12 El a răspuns și a zis: „Nu*Cap. 22:38. trebuie oare să spun ce-mi pune Domnul în gură?" 13 Balac i-a zis: „Vino, te rog, cu mine în alt loc, de unde îl poți vedea, căci aici nu vezi decât o parte din el, nu-l vezi întreg. Și de acolo să mi-l blestemi." 14 L-a dus în câmpul Țofim, spre vârful muntelui Pisga, a zidit*Vers. 1,2. șapte altare și a adus câte un vițel și un berbec pe fiecare altar. 15 Balaam a zis lui Balac: „Stai aici, lângă arderea ta de tot, și eu mă voi duce înaintea lui Dumnezeu." 16 Domnul a venit înaintea lui Balaam, i-a pus*Cap. 22:35;23:5. cuvinte în gură și a zis: „Întoarce-te la Balac și așa să-i vorbești." 17 Balaam s-a întors la el, și iată că Balac stătea lângă arderea lui de tot, cu căpeteniile Moabului. Balac i-a zis: „Ce ți-a spus Domnul?"

18 Balaam și-a rostit prorocia și a zis:

„Scoală-te*Jud. 3:20., Balac, și ascultă!

Ia aminte la mine, fiul lui Țipor!

19 Dumnezeu*1 Sam. 15:29.Mal. 3:6.Rom. 11:29.Tit 1:2.Iac. 1:17. nu este un om, ca să mintă,

Nici un fiu al omului, ca să-I pară rău.

Ce a spus, oare nu va face?

Ce a făgăduit, oare nu va împlini?

20 Iată că am primit poruncă să binecuvântez.

Da, El*Gen. 12:2;22:17. Cap. 22:12. a binecuvântat, și eu nu pot întoarce.

21 El nu vede nicio fărădelege în Iacov,

Nu vede*Rom. 4:7,8. nicio răutate în Israel.

Domnul*Exod 13:21;29:45,46;33:14. Dumnezeul lui este cu el,

El este Împăratul lui, veselia lui.

22 Dumnezeu*Cap. 24:8. i-a scos din Egipt,

Tăria Lui este pentru el*Deut. 33:17.Iov 39:10,11. ca a bivolului.

23 Descântecul nu poate face nimic împotriva lui Iacov,

Nici vrăjitoria împotriva lui Israel.

Acum se poate spune despre Iacov și Israel:

‘Ce lucruri*Ps. 31:19;44:1. mari a făcut Dumnezeu!’

24 Da, poporul acesta se scoală ca o leoaică*Gen. 49:9.

Și se ridică întocmai ca un leu.

Nu se culcă*Gen. 49:27. până ce n-a mâncat prada

Și n-a băut sângele celor uciși."

25 Balac a zis lui Balaam: „Nu-l blestema, dar măcar nici nu-l binecuvânta!" 26 Balaam a răspuns și a zis lui Balac: „Nu ți-am spus că voi face tot ce va*Cap. 22:38;23:12.1 Împ. 22:14. spune Domnul?" 27 Balac a zis lui Balaam: „Vino*Vers. 13., te rog, te voi duce într-un alt loc; poate că Dumnezeu va găsi cu cale să-mi blestemi de acolo pe poporul acesta!" 28 Balac a dus pe Balaam pe vârful muntelui Peor, care este cu fața spre pustie*Cap. 21:20.. 29 Balaam a zis lui Balac: „Zidește-mi*Vers. 1. aici șapte altare și pregătește-mi aici șapte viței și șapte berbeci!" 30 Balac a făcut cum zisese Balaam și a adus câte un vițel și câte un berbec pe fiecare altar.
