1 And Balaam saw that it was good in the sight of Jehovah to bless Israel, and he went not, as at other times, to seek for enchantments, but he set his face toward the wilderness. 2 And Balaam lifted up his eyes and saw Israel dwelling in tents according to his tribes; and the Spirit of God*GodHebrew: Elohim came upon him. 3 And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor saith, and the man of opened eye saith, 4 He saith, who heareth the words of ·God*GodHebrew: El who seeth the vision of the Almighty, who falleth down, and who hath his eyes open: 5 How goodly are thy tents, Jacob, and thy tabernacles, Israel! 6 Like valleys are they spread forth, like gardens by the river side, Like aloe-trees which Jehovah hath planted, like cedars beside the waters. 7 Water shall flow out of his buckets, and his seed shall be in great waters, And his king shall be higher than Agag, and his kingdom shall be exalted. 8 ·God*GodHebrew: El brought him out of Egypt; he hath as it were the strength of a buffalo. He shall consume the nations his enemies, and break their bones, and with his arrows shall smite them in pieces. 9 He stooped, he lay down like a lion, and like a lioness: who will stir him up? Blessed is he that blesseth thee, and cursed is he that curseth thee.

10 Then Balak’s anger was kindled against Balaam, and he smote his hands together; and Balak said to Balaam, I called thee to curse mine enemies, and behold, thou hast altogether blessed them these three times! 11 And now flee thou to thy place; I said I would very highly honour thee, and behold, Jehovah has kept thee back from honour. 12 And Balaam said to Balak, Did I not also speak to thy messengers whom thou sentest to me, saying, 13 If Balak gave me his house full of silver and gold, I could not go beyond the commandment of Jehovah to do good or bad out of my heart: what Jehovah shall say, that will I speak? 14 And now behold, I go to my people: come, I will admonish thee what this people will do to thy people at the end of days.

15 And he took up his parable, and said, Balaam the son of Beor saith, and the man of opened eye saith, 16 He saith, who heareth the words of ·God*GodHebrew: El who knoweth the knowledge of the Most High, Who seeth the vision of the Almighty, who falleth down, and who hath his eyes open: 17 I shall see him, but not now; I shall behold him, but not nigh: There cometh a Star out of Jacob, and a Sceptre shall rise out of Israel, and he shall cut in pieces the corners of Moab, and destroy all the sons of tumult. 18 And Edom shall be a possession, and Seir a possession, — they, his enemies; but Israel will do valiantly. 19 And one out of Jacob shall have dominion, and will destroy out of the city what remaineth. 20 And he saw Amalek, and took up his parable, and said, Amalek is the first of the nations, but his latter end shall be for destruction. 21 And he saw the Kenites, and took up his parable, and said, Firm is thy dwelling-place, and thy nest fixed in the rock; 22 But the Kenite shall be consumed, until Asshur shall carry thee away captive. 23 And he took up his parable, and said, Alas! Who shall live when ·God*GodHebrew: El doeth this? 24 And ships shall come from the coast of Chittim, and afflict Asshur, and afflict Eber, and he also shall be for destruction. 25 And Balaam rose up, and went and returned to his place; and Balak also went his way.

1 Balaam a văzut că Domnul găsește cu cale să binecuvânteze pe Israel și n-a mai alergat ca în celelalte rânduri*Cap. 23:3,15. la descântece, ci și-a întors fața spre pustie. 2 Balaam a ridicat ochii și a văzut pe Israel tăbărât în corturi*Cap. 2:2., după semințiile lui. Atunci, Duhul lui Dumnezeu a venit*Cap. 11:25.1 Sam. 10:10;19:20,23.2 Cron. 15:1. peste el.

3 Balaam și-a*Cap. 23:7,18. rostit prorocia și a zis:

„Iată ce zice Balaam, fiul lui Beor,

Omul cu ochii deschiși,

4 Cel ce aude cuvintele lui Dumnezeu,

Cel ce vede vedenia Celui Atotputernic,

Cel ce cade*1 Sam. 19:24.Ezec. 1:28.Dan. 8:18;10:15,16.2 Cor. 12:2-4.Apoc. 1:10,17. cu fața la pământ și ai cărui ochi sunt deschiși:

5 ‘Ce frumoase sunt corturile tale, Iacove!

Locuințele tale, Israele!

6 Ele se întind ca niște văi,

Ca niște grădini lângă un râu,

Ca niște copaci*Ps. 1:3.Ier. 17:8. de aloe pe care i-a*Ps. 104:16. sădit Domnul,

Ca niște cedri pe lângă ape.

7 Apa curge din gălețile lui

Și sămânța lui este udată de ape mari*Ier. 51:13.Apoc. 17:1,15..

Împăratul lui se înalță mai presus de Agag*1 Sam. 15:9.

Și împărăția*2 Sam. 5:12.1 Cron. 14:2. lui ajunge puternică.

8 Dumnezeu*Cap. 23:22. l-a scos din Egipt,

Tăria Lui este ca a bivolului pentru el.

El nimicește*Cap. 14:9;23:24. neamurile care se ridică împotriva lui,

Le sfărâmă oasele*Ps. 2:9.Is. 38:13.Ier. 50:17. și le prăpădește*Ps. 45:5.Ier. 50:9. cu săgețile lui.

9 Îndoaie genunchii*Gen. 49:9., se culcă întocmai ca un leu,

Ca o leoaică.

Cine-l va scula?

Binecuvântat*Gen. 12:3;27:29. să fie oricine te va binecuvânta,

Și blestemat să fie oricine te va blestema!’"

10 Balac s-a aprins de mânie împotriva lui Balaam, a bătut din*Ezec. 21:14,17;22:13. mâini și a zis lui Balaam: „Eu te-am*Cap. 23:11.Deut. 23:4,5.Ios. 24:9,10.Neem. 13:2. chemat să-mi blestemi vrăjmașii, și iată că de trei ori tu i-ai binecuvântat!

11 Fugi acum și du-te acasă! Spusesem*Cap. 22:17,37. că-ți voi da cinste, dar Domnul te-a împiedicat s-o primești." 12 Balaam a răspuns lui Balac: „Eh! N-am spus eu oare solilor pe care mi i-ai trimis 13 că, dacă*Cap. 22:18. mi-ar da Balac chiar și casa lui plină cu argint și cu aur, tot n-aș putea să fac de la mine însumi nici bine, nici rău împotriva poruncii Domnului, ci voi spune întocmai ce va zice Domnul? 14 Și acum, iată că mă duc la poporul meu. Vino, și-ți voi vesti*Mica 6:5.Apoc. 2:14. ce va face poporul acesta poporului tău în vremurile*Gen. 49:1.Dan. 2:28;10:14. care vor urma."

15 Balaam și-a rostit*Vers. 3,4. prorocia și a zis:

„Așa zice Balaam, fiul lui Beor,

Așa zice omul care are ochii deschiși,

16 Așa zice cel ce aude cuvintele lui Dumnezeu,

Cel ce cunoaște planurile Celui Preaînalt,

Cel ce vede vedenia Celui Atotputernic,

Cel ce cade cu fața la pământ și ai cărui ochi sunt deschiși:

17 ‘Îl văd*Apoc. 1:7., dar nu acum,

Îl privesc, dar nu de aproape.

O stea răsare din Iacov,

Un toiag*Gen. 49:10.Ps. 110:2.Mat. 2:2.Apoc. 22:16. de cârmuire se ridică din Israel.

El străpunge laturile Moabului

Și prăpădește pe toți copiii lui Set.

18 Se face stăpân pe Edom*2 Sam. 8:14.Ps. 60:8,9,12.,

Se face stăpân pe Seir, vrăjmașii lui.

Israel face fapte mari.

19 Cel ce se naște din Iacov domnește*Gen. 49:10. ca stăpânitor

Și pierde pe cei ce scapă din cetăți.’"

20 Balaam a văzut pe Amalec și a rostit următoarea prorocie:

„Amalec este cel dintâi dintre neamuri,

Dar într-o zi va fi nimicit."

21 Balaam a văzut pe cheniți și a rostit următoarea prorocie:

„Locuința ta este tare de tot

Și cuibul tău este pus pe stâncă.

22 Dar Cain va fi pustiit,

Până ce te va lua prins Asur."

23 Balaam a rostit următoarea prorocie:

„Vai! Cine va mai putea trăi când va face Dumnezeu acest lucru?

24 Dar niște corăbii vor veni din Chitim*Gen. 10:4.Dan. 11:30.,

Vor smeri pe Asur, vor smeri pe Eber*Gen. 10:25.

Și la urmă vor fi nimicite și ele."

25 Balaam s-a sculat, a plecat și s-a*Cap. 31:8. întors acasă. Balac a plecat și el acasă.
