1 Then drew near the daughters of Zelophehad, the son of Hepher, the son of Gilead, the son of Machir, the son of Manasseh, of the families of Manasseh the son of Joseph; and these were the names of his daughters: Mahlah, Noah, and Hoglah, and Milcah, and Tirzah. 2 And they stood before Moses, and before Eleazar the priest, and before the princes and the whole assembly, at the entrance of the tent of meeting, saying, 3 Our father died in the wilderness, and he was not in the band of them that banded themselves together against Jehovah in the band of Korah; but he died in his own sin, and he had no sons. 4 Why should the name of our father be taken away from his family, because he has no son? Give unto us a possession among the brethren of our father. 5 And Moses brought their cause before Jehovah. 6 And Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying, 7 The daughters of Zelophehad speak right: thou shalt surely give them a possession of an inheritance among their father’s brethren; and thou shalt cause the inheritance of their father to pass unto them. 8 And unto the children of Israel shalt thou speak, saying, If a man die, and have no son, then ye shall cause his inheritance to pass unto his daughter. 9 And if he have no daughter, ye shall give his inheritance unto his brethren. 10 And if he have no brethren, ye shall give his inheritance unto his father’s brethren. 11 And if his father have no brethren, ye shall give his inheritance to his kinsman that is nearest to him in his family, and he shall possess it; and it shall be unto the children of Israel a statute of right, as Jehovah commanded Moses.

12 And Jehovah said to Moses, Get thee up into this mount Abarim, and see the land that I have given unto the children of Israel. 13 And when thou hast seen it, thou also shalt be gathered unto thy peoples, as Aaron thy brother was gathered, 14 because ye rebelled against my word in the wilderness of Zin, in the strife of the congregation, as to hallowing me in the matter of the water before their eyes. (That is the water of Meribah at Kadesh in the wilderness of Zin.)

15 And Moses spoke to Jehovah, saying, 16 Let Jehovah, the God*GodHebrew: Elohim of the spirits of all flesh, set a man over the assembly, 17 who may go out before them, and who may come in before them, and who may lead them out, and who may bring them in, that the assembly of Jehovah be not as sheep that have no shepherd. 18 And Jehovah said to Moses, Take Joshua the son of Nun, a man in whom is the Spirit, and thou shalt lay thy hand upon him; 19 and thou shalt set him before Eleazar the priest, and before the whole assembly; and give him commandment before their eyes. 20 And thou shalt put of thine honour upon him, that the whole assembly of the children of Israel may obey him. 21 And he shall stand before Eleazar the priest, who shall inquire for him, by the judgment of the Urim before Jehovah: at his word shall they go out, and at his word they shall come in, he, and all the children of Israel with him, even the whole assembly. 22 And Moses did as Jehovah had commanded him; and he took Joshua and set him before Eleazar the priest, and before the whole assembly. 23 And he laid his hands upon him, and gave him commandment, as Jehovah had said through Moses.

1 Fetele lui Țelofhad*Cap. 26:33;36:1,11.Ios. 17:3., fiul lui Hefer, fiul lui Galaad, fiul lui Machir, fiul lui Manase, din familiile lui Manase, fiul lui Iosif, și ale căror nume erau: Mahla, Noa, Hogla, Milca și Tirța, 2 s-au apropiat și s-au înfățișat înaintea lui Moise, înaintea preotului Eleazar, înaintea mai-marilor și înaintea întregii adunări, la ușa cortului întâlnirii. Ele au zis: 3 „Tatăl nostru a murit*Cap. 14:35;26:64,65. în pustie; el nu era în mijlocul cetei celor ce s-au răzvrătit împotriva Domnului, în mijlocul cetei*Cap. 16:1,2. lui Core, ci a murit pentru păcatul lui și n-a avut fii. 4 Pentru ce să se stingă numele tatălui nostru din mijlocul familiei lui, pentru că n-a avut fii? Dă-ne*Ios. 17:4. și nouă deci o moștenire între frații tatălui nostru." 5 Moise a adus*Exod 18:15,19. pricina lor înaintea Domnului. 6 Și Domnul a zis lui Moise: 7 „Fetele lui Țelofhad au dreptate. Să le*Cap. 36:2. dai de moștenire o moșie între frații tatălui lor și să treci asupra lor moștenirea tatălui lor. 8 Iar copiilor lui Israel să le vorbești și să le spui: «Când un om va muri fără să lase fii, să treceți moștenirea lui asupra fetei lui. 9 Dacă n-are nicio fată, moștenirea lui s-o dați fraților lui. 10 Dacă n-are nici frați, moștenirea lui s-o dați fraților tatălui său. 11 Și, dacă nici tatăl lui n-are frați, moștenirea lui s-o dați rudei celei mai apropiate din familia lui și ea s-o stăpânească. Aceasta să fie o lege*Cap. 35:29. și un drept pentru copiii lui Israel, cum a poruncit lui Moise Domnul.»"

12 Domnul a zis lui Moise: „Suie-te*Cap. 33:47.Deut. 3:27;32:49;34:1. pe muntele acesta Abarim și privește țara pe care am dat-o copiilor lui Israel. 13 S-o privești, dar și tu vei fi adăugat*Cap. 20:24,28;31:2.Deut. 10:6. la poporul tău, cum a fost adăugat fratele tău Aaron, 14 pentru că v-ați*Cap. 20:12,24.Deut. 1:37;32:51.Ps. 106:32. împotrivit poruncii Mele în pustia Țin, când cu cearta adunării, și nu M-ați sfințit înaintea lor cu prilejul apelor." (Acestea sunt*Exod 17:7. apele de ceartă, la Cades, în pustia Țin.) 15 Moise a vorbit Domnului și a zis: 16 „Domnul Dumnezeul*Cap. 16:22.Evr. 12:9. duhurilor oricărui trup să rânduiască peste adunare un om 17 care să iasă*Deut. 31:2.1 Sam. 8:20;18:13.2 Cron. 1:10. înaintea lor și să intre înaintea lor, care să-i scoată afară și să-i vâre înăuntru, pentru ca adunarea Domnului să nu fie ca niște oi*1 Împ. 22:17.Zah. 10:2.Mat. 9:36.Marcu 6:34. care n-au păstor." 18 Domnul a zis lui Moise: „Ia-ți pe Iosua, fiul lui Nun, bărbat în*Gen. 41:38.Jud. 3:10;11:29.1 Sam. 16:13,18. care este Duhul Meu, și să-ți pui*Deut. 34:9. mâna peste el. 19 Să-l așezi înaintea preotului Eleazar și înaintea întregii adunări și să-i dai porunci*Deut. 31:7. sub ochii lor. 20 Să-l faci părtaș*Cap. 11:17,28.1 Sam. 10:6,9.2 Împ. 2:15. la dregătoria ta, pentru ca toată adunarea copiilor lui Israel să-l*Ios. 1:16,17. asculte. 21 Să*Ios. 9:14.Jud. 1:1;20:18,23,26.1 Sam. 23:9;30:7. se înfățișeze înaintea preotului Eleazar, care să întrebe pentru el judecata lui Urim*Exod 28:30. înaintea Domnului, și Iosua, toți copiii lui Israel, împreună cu el, și toată adunarea să iasă după porunca lui Eleazar și să intre după porunca*Ios. 9:14.1 Sam. 22:10,13,15. lui." 22 Moise a făcut cum îi poruncise Domnul. A luat pe Iosua și l-a pus înaintea preotului Eleazar și înaintea întregii adunări. 23 Și-a pus mâinile peste el și i-a dat porunci*Deut. 3:28;31:7., cum spusese Domnul prin Moise.
