Provérbios 21

1 Kei roto te ngākau o te kīngi i te ringa o Ihowā ānō he awa rerenga wai;

e whakaangahia ana e ia ki ngā wāhi katoa e pai ai ia.

2 Ko ngā ara katoa o te tangata, tika kau ki ōna kanohi ake;

ko Ihowā ia hei pāuna i ngā ngākau.

3 Ko te mahi i te tika, i te whakawā,

ki tā Ihowā, pai atu i te patunga tapu.

4 He kanohi whakakake, he ngākau whakapehapeha,

ā, ko te rama hoki o te hunga kino, he hara kau.

5 Ko ngā whakaaro o te tangata uaua e ahu anake ana ki te hua o te taonga;

ko te hunga tākare katoa ia e whawhai kau ana ki te mūhore.

6 E rite ana tā te arero teka āmi i te taonga ki te mamaoa e āia noatia ana;

ko te hunga e rapu ana i ērā e rapu ana i te mate.

7 Mā te pāhua a te hunga kino e tahi atu rātou;

mō rātou kāhore e pai ki te whakawā.

8 He ara tino kōpikopiko tō te tangata e waha ana i te hara;

tēnā ko te tangata mā, he tika tāna mahi.

9 He pai kē te noho i te kokonga o te tuanui,

i te noho tahi me te wahine ngangare i roto i te whare māhorahora.

10 Ko tā te wairua o te tangata kino he hiahia ki te kino;

e kore ōna kanohi e manako ki tōna hoa.

11 Ki te whiua te tangata whakahī, ka whai whakaaro te kūware;

ā, ki te whakaakona te tangata whakaaro nui, ka whiwhi ia ki te mātauranga.

12 Ka āta whakaaroa e te tangata tika te whare o te tangata kino;

te pēheatanga e whakatakā ai te hunga kino ki te mate mō rātou.

13 Ko te tangata e puru ana i ōna taringa ki te karanga a te rawakore,

tērā hoki ia e karanga, heoi e kore e whakarangona.

14 Mā te mea hōmai puku ka mārie ai te riri,

15 He mahi koa nā te tangata tika te whakawā;

16 Ko te tangata e kotiti kē ana i te huarahi o te mahara,

ka noho ia i te whakaminenga o ngā tūpāpaku.

17 Ko te tangata matenui ki ngā āhuareka, ka rawakore;

ā, ko te tangata e matenui ana ki te wāina, ki te hinu, e kore e whai taonga.

18 Hei utu te tangata kino mō te tangata tika;

ā, ka haere mai te tangata kōpeka hei whakakapi mō te tangata tū tika.

19 He pai kē te noho i te koraha,

i te noho tahi me te wahine tohetohe, wahine pukukino.

20 Kei te nohoanga o te tangata whakaaro nui te taonga mōmōhanga me te hinu;

heoi maumauria ake e te wairangi.

21 Ko te tangata e whai ana i te tika, i te atawhai,

ka whiwhi ki te ora, ki te tika, ki te hōnore.

22 Ka pikitia e te tangata whakaaro nui te pā o ngā mārohirohi,

ka taka hoki i a ia te kaha i whakawhirinaki ai rātou.

23 Ko te tangata e tiaki ana i tōna māngai,

i tōna arero, e tiaki ana i tōna wairua kei raru.

24 Ko te tangata whakakake, whakapehapeha, ko te tangata whakahī tōna ingoa,

e mahi ana ia i runga i te whakahirahira o tōna whakamanamana.

25 Ka mate te tangata māngere i tōna hiahia anō;

e kore hoki ōna ringa e pai ki te mahi.

26 Tērā te hanga he kaiapo tonu ā pau noa te rā;

ko tā te tangata tika ia he hōmai, kāhore hoki āna kaiponu.

27 He mea whakarihariha te whakahere a te tangata kino;

tērā noa ake ina hē te whakaaro i kawea mai ai e ia.

28 Ka mate te kaiwhakaatu teka;

nā, ko te tangata whakarongo, ka kōrero, kāhore he kaiwhakahē.

29 Ka whakamārō te tangata kino i tōna mata;

tēnā ko te tangata tika, ka whakapai i ōna ara.

30 I tō Ihowā aroaro kāhore he whakaaro nui,

kāhore he mātauranga, kāhore he kupu mōhio, e tū.

31 Kua rite noa ake he hōiho mō te rā o te whawhai;

kei a Ihowā ia te whakaoranga.

1 The king’s heart is in the hand of Jehovah as the watercourses:

He turneth it whithersoever he will.

2 Every way of a man is right in his own eyes;

But Jehovah weigheth the hearts.

3 To do righteousness and justice

Is more acceptable to Jehovah than sacrifice.

4 A high look, and a proud heart,

Even the lamp of the wicked, is sin.

5 The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness;

But every one that is hasty hasteth only to want.

6 The getting of treasures by a lying tongue

Is a vapor driven to and fro by them that seek death.

7 The violence of the wicked shall sweep them away,

Because they refuse to do justice.

8 The way of him that is laden with guilt is exceeding crooked;

But as for the pure, his work is right.

9 It is better to dwell in the corner of the housetop,

Than with a contentious woman in a wide house.

10 The soul of the wicked desireth evil:

His neighbor findeth no favor in his eyes.

11 When the scoffer is punished, the simple is made wise;

And when the wise is instructed, he receiveth knowledge.

12 The righteous man considereth the house of the wicked,

How the wicked are overthrown to their ruin.

13 Whoso stoppeth his ears at the cry of the poor,

He also shall cry, but shall not be heard.

14 A gift in secret pacifieth anger;

And a present in the bosom, strong wrath.

15 It is joy to the righteous to do justice;

But it is a destruction to the workers of iniquity.

16 The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding

Shall rest in the assembly of the dead.

17 He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man:

He that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.

18 The wicked is a ransom for the righteous;

And the treacherous cometh in the stead of the upright.

19 It is better to dwell in a desert land,

Than with a contentious and fretful woman.

20 There is precious treasure and oil in the dwelling of the wise;

But a foolish man swalloweth it up.

21 He that followeth after righteousness and kindness

Findeth life, righteousness, and honor.

22 A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty,

And bringeth down the strength of the confidence thereof.

23 Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue

Keepeth his soul from troubles.

24 The proud and haughty man, scoffer is his name;

He worketh in the arrogance of pride.

25 The desire of the sluggard killeth him;

For his hands refuse to labor.

26 There is that coveteth greedily all the day long;

But the righteous giveth and withholdeth not.

27 The sacrifice of the wicked is an abomination;

How much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind!

28 A false witness shall perish;

But the man that heareth shall speak so as to endure.

29 A wicked man hardeneth his face;

But as for the upright, he establisheth his ways.

30 There is no wisdom nor understanding

Nor counsel against Jehovah.

31 The horse is prepared against the day of battle;

But victory is of Jehovah.
