Provérbios 14

1 Ko tā te wahine whakaaro nui he hanga i tōna whare;

ko tā te wahine wairangi, ko ōna ringa hei wāhi iho.

2 Ko te tangata e haere ana i runga i tōna tika, e wehi ana i a Ihowā;

ko te tangata he parori kē ōna ara e whakahāwea ana ki a ia.

3 Kei te māngai o te wairangi he patu whakapehapeha;

mā ngā ngutu ia o te hunga whakaaro nui rātou ka ora ai.

4 Ki te kāhore he kau, ka mā te takotoranga kai;

mā te kaha ia o te kau ka nui ai ngā hua.

5 E kore te kaiwhakaatu pono e teka;

ka puaki ia te teka i te kaiwhakaatu teka.

6 E rapu ana te tangata whakahī i te whakaaro nui, heoi kāhore e kitea e ia;

ki te tangata mātau ia he māmā noa te mātauranga.

7 Haere atu ki te aroaro o te kūware,

ina kāhore e kitea e koe he ngutu mātau ōna.

8 Ko te whakaaro nui o te tangata tūpato, he mātau ki tōna ara;

ko te wairangi o ngā kūware, he tinihanga.

9 Ko tā ngā wairangi he kata ki te hē;

nā, kei te hunga tika te whakaaro pai.

10 E mōhio ana te ngākau ki tōna ake mamae,

e kore anō hoki tōna koa e pikitia e te tangata kē.

11 Ka whakangaromia te whare o te hunga kino;

ka tupu ia te tēneti o te hunga tika.

12 He huarahi anō tērā e tika ana ki tā te tangata titiro,

ko tōna mutunga ia ko ngā huarahi ki te mate.

13 Ahakoa e kata ana, e mamae ana te ngākau;

ā, ko te mutunga o te koa, he pōuri.

14 Ko te tangata i te ngākau tahuri kē, ka mākona i ōna ara ake;

ā, ko te tangata pai ka mākona i tāna ake anō.

15 Ko tā te kūware he whakapono ki ngā kupu katoa;

tēnā ko te tangata tūpato, ka āta titiro ki tāna hīkoi.

16 E wehi ana te tangata whakaaro nui, ka neke atu i te kino;

ko te kūware ia ka whakahī, ka tohe.

17 Ko te tangata riri wawe ka mahi i te wairangi;

ka kinongia anō hoki te tangata i ngā rauhanga kino.

18 He wairangi te whakarerenga iho mō ngā kūware;

ko te tangata tūpato ia ka karaunatia ki te mātauranga.

19 E piko ana te hunga kino ki te aroaro o te hunga pai;

ā, ko te hunga hē ki ngā kūwaha o te tangata tika.

20 E kinongia ana te rawakore e tōna hoa ake nei anō;

he tokomaha ia ngā tāngata e aroha ana ki te tangata taonga.

21 Ko te tangata e whakahāwea ana ki tōna hoa, e hara ana;

ko te tangata ia e atawhai ana ki ngā rawakore, ka hari.

22 He teka ianei e kotiti kē ana ngā kaiwhakatakoto i te kino?

He atawhai ia, he pono, kei ngā kaihanga i te pai.

23 He hua tō ngā māuiuitanga katoa;

tēnā ko te kōrero o ngā ngutu e ahu ana ki te rawakore.

24 Hei karauna mō ngā whakaaro nui ō rātou taonga;

ko te wairangi ia o ngā kūware, he wairangi kau.

25 Ka ora ngā wairua i te kaiwhakaatu pono;

ko te tangata kōrero teka ia e mea ana kia tinihanga.

26 Ū tonu, kaha tonu te whakaaro ina wehi ki a Ihowā;

ka whai rerenga atu anō hoki āna tamariki.

27 He puna ora te wehi ki a Ihowā,

e mahue ai ngā reti o te mate.

28 Mā te nui o te iwi ka whai hōnore ai te kīngi;

mā te kore o te iwi ka taka ai te rangatira.

29 He mātauranga nui tō te tangata manawanui;

ko te tangata riri wawe ia, e whakaneke ake ana ia i te wairangi.

30 He ora ki ngā kikokiko te ngākau ora;

ko te hae ia, he pirau ki ngā wheua.

31 Ko te tangata e tūkino ana i te ware, he tāwai tāna ki tōna Kaihanga;

ko te tangata ia e atawhai ana i te rawakore, e whakahōnore ana i a ia.

32 E uakina iho ana te tangata kino i runga i tōna hē;

ko te tangata tika ia ka whai tūmanakohanga i tōna matenga.

33 Ka noho te whakaaro nui ki te ngākau o te tangata mātau;

engari ko te mea kei te wāhi ki roto o ngā kūware e whakaaturia ana.

34 Mā te tika ka kake ai te iwi;

mā te hara ia ka ingoa kino ai ngā iwi.

35 Ka manako te kīngi ki te pononga mahara;

ā, ka riri ki te tangata i takea ai te whakamā.

1 Every wise woman buildeth her house;

But the foolish plucketh it down with her own hands.

2 He that walketh in his uprightness feareth Jehovah;

But he that is perverse in his ways despiseth him.

3 In the mouth of the foolish is a rod for his pride;

But the lips of the wise shall preserve them.

4 Where no oxen are, the crib is clean;

But much increase is by the strength of the ox.

5 A faithful witness will not lie;

But a false witness uttereth lies.

6 A scoffer seeketh wisdom, and findeth it not;

But knowledge is easy unto him that hath understanding.

7 Go into the presence of a foolish man,

And thou shalt not perceive in him the lips of knowledge.

8 The wisdom of the prudent is to understand his way;

But the folly of fools is deceit.

9 A trespass-offering mocketh fools;

But among the upright there is good will.

10 The heart knoweth its own bitterness;

And a stranger doth not intermeddle with its joy.

11 The house of the wicked shall be overthrown;

But the tent of the upright shall flourish.

12 There is a way which seemeth right unto a man;

But the end thereof are the ways of death.

13 Even in laughter the heart is sorrowful;

And the end of mirth is heaviness.

14 The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways;

And a good man shall be satisfied from himself.

15 The simple believeth every word;

But the prudent man looketh well to his going.

16 A wise man feareth, and departeth from evil;

But the fool beareth himself insolently, and is confident.

17 He that is soon angry will deal foolishly;

And a man of wicked devices is hated.

18 The simple inherit folly;

But the prudent are crowned with knowledge.

19 The evil bow down before the good;

And the wicked, at the gates of the righteous.

20 The poor is hated even of his own neighbor;

But the rich hath many friends.

21 He that despiseth his neighbor sinneth;

But he that hath pity on the poor, happy is he.

22 Do they not err that devise evil?

But mercy and truth shall be to them that devise good.

23 In all labor there is profit;

But the talk of the lips tendeth only to penury.

24 The crown of the wise is their riches;

But the folly of fools is only folly.

25 A true witness delivereth souls;

But he that uttereth lies causeth deceit.

26 In the fear of Jehovah is strong confidence;

And his children shall have a place of refuge.

27 The fear of Jehovah is a fountain of life,

That one may depart from the snares of death.

28 In the multitude of people is the king’s glory;

But in the want of people is the destruction of the prince.

29 He that is slow to anger is of great understanding;

But he that is hasty of spirit exalteth folly.

30 A tranquil heart is the life of the flesh;

But envy is the rottenness of the bones.

31 He that oppresseth the poor reproacheth his Maker;

But he that hath mercy on the needy honoreth him.

32 The wicked is thrust down in his evil-doing;

But the righteous hath a refuge in his death.

33 Wisdom resteth in the heart of him that hath understanding;

But that which is in the inward part of fools is made known.

34 Righteousness exalteth a nation;

But sin is a reproach to any people.

35 The king’s favor is toward a servant that dealeth wisely;

But his wrath will be against him that causeth shame.
