Provérbios 20

ASV

1 Ko te wāina he whakahī, ko te wai kaha he ngangau;

ā, ko te hunga katoa e whakapōhēhētia ana e tērā, kāhore ō rātou whakaaro nui.

2 Ānō he raiona e hāmama ana te wehi o te kīngi;

ko te tangata e whakaoho ana i a ia kia riri, e hara ana ki tōna wairua ake.

3 He whakahōnore te tangata te noho wātea mai i te ngangare;

engari ko ngā wairangi he kōwhetewhete tonu.

4 Kāhore te māngere e parau, he mea ki te hōtoke;

reira ka pākiki kai māna i te kotinga wīti, ā, kāhore e whiwhi.

5 He wai hōhonu te whakaaro i roto i te ngākau o te tangata;

e utuhia anō ia e te tangata mātau.

6 Ko te tini o te tangata he kauwhau i tōna atawhai ake;

ko wai ia e kite i te tangata pono?

7 Ko te tangata tika, e haere ana i runga i tōna tapatahi,

ka manaakitia āna tamariki i muri i a ia.

8 Ko te kīngi e noho ana i runga i te torōna whakawā,

tītaritaria ana e ōna kanohi ngā katoa.

9 Ko wai e mea, "Kua i ahau tōku ngākau,

kua tahia atu ōku hara"?

10 Ko ngā pāuna huhua, ko ngā mēhua huhua,

he rite tahi taua rua, he mea whakarihariha anake ki a Ihowā.

11 He tamariki nei anō ka mōhiotia ki āna hanga,

he rānei, he tika rānei tāna mahi.

12 Ko te taringa rongo, ko te kanohi titiro,

Ihowā rāua ngātahi i hanga.

13 Kaua e matenuitia te moe, kei rawakoretia koe;

titiro ōu kanohi, ā, ka mākona koe i te taro.

14 "Ehara ehara," e ai te kaihoko;

tōna haerenga atu ia, kei te whakamanamana.

15 He kōura tēnā me te tini o te rupi;

engari he taonga utu nui ngā ngutu o te mātauranga.

16 Tangohia te kākahu o te kaiwhakakapi te tangata ;

puritia hoki te tangata i taunahatia hei whakakapi ngā tāngata .

17 He reka ki te tangata te taro o te teka;

muri iho ka tōna māngai i te kirikiri.

18 te rūnanga ka ū ai ngā whakaaro;

kia pai hoki te ngārahu ina anga ki te whawhai.

19 Ko te tangata e kōpikopiko ana ki te kawekawe kōrero, ka whākina e ia ngā kōrero ngaro;

reira kaua e raweke atu ki te tangata ngutu hāmama.

20 Ko te tangata e kanga ana i tōna pāpā, i tōna whaea,

ka tineia tōna rama i roto i te pōuri kerekere.

21 I te tīmatanga e hohoro mai pea te taonga;

e kore ia tōna mutunga e whakapaingia.

22 Kaua e mea, "Ka utua e ahau te kino";

tāria Ihowā, ā, kei a ia he oranga mōu.

23 He mea whakarihariha ki a Ihowā ngā taimaha rerekē;

ā, e kore hoki te pāuna tinihanga e pai.

24 Ihowā ngā hāereerenga o te tangata;

, te aha te tangata ka mātau ai ki tōna ara?

25 Hei rore ki te tangata te oho noa ake ki te mea, "He tapu!"

ā, i muri i ngā taurangi, kia uiui.

28 Hei kaitiaki te kīngi te atawhai me te pono;

e tautokona ake ana hoki tōna torōna e te atawhai.

29 Ko te korōria o ngā taitama ko rātou kaha;

ā, ko te ātaahua o ngā kaumātua ko te upoko hina.

30 E tahia atu ana te kino e ngā kārawarawa o te patunga;

ā, e tae rawa ana ngā whiu ki ngā wāhi o roto rawa o te kōpū.

1 Wine is a mocker, strong drink a brawler;

And whosoever erreth thereby is not wise.

2 The terror of a king is as the roaring of a lion:

He that provoketh him to anger sinneth against his own life.

3 It is an honor for a man to keep aloof from strife;

But every fool will be quarrelling.

4 The sluggard will not plow by reason of the winter;

Therefore he shall beg in harvest, and have nothing.

5 Counsel in the heart of man is like deep water;

But a man of understanding will draw it out.

6 Most men will proclaim every one his own kindness;

But a faithful man who can find?

7 A righteous man that walketh in his integrity,

Blessed are his children after him.

8 A king that sitteth on the throne of judgment

Scattereth away all evil with his eyes.

9 Who can say, I have made my heart clean,

I am pure from my sin?

10 Diverse weights, and diverse measures,

Both of them alike are an abomination to Jehovah.

11 Even a child maketh himself known by his doings,

Whether his work be pure, and whether it be right.

12 The hearing ear, and the seeing eye,

Jehovah hath made even both of them.

13 Love not sleep, lest thou come to poverty;

Open thine eyes, and thou shalt be satisfied with bread.

14 It is bad, it is bad, saith the buyer;

But when he is gone his way, then he boasteth.

15 There is gold, and abundance of rubies;

But the lips of knowledge are a precious jewel.

16 Take his garment that is surety for a stranger;

And hold him in pledge that is surety for foreigners.

17 Bread of falsehood is sweet to a man;

But afterwards his mouth shall be filled with gravel.

18 Every purpose is established by counsel;

And by wise guidance make thou war.

19 He that goeth about as a tale-bearer revealeth secrets;

Therefore company not with him that openeth wide his lips.

20 Whoso curseth his father or his mother,

His lamp shall be put out in blackness of darkness.

21 An inheritance may be gotten hastily at the beginning;

But the end thereof shall not be blessed.

22 Say not thou, I will recompense evil:

Wait for Jehovah, and he will save thee.

23 Diverse weights are an abomination to Jehovah;

And a false balance is not good.

24 A man’s goings are of Jehovah;

How then can man understand his way?

25 It is a snare to a man rashly to say, It is holy,

And after vows to make inquiry.

26 A wise king winnoweth the wicked,

And bringeth the threshing-wheel over them.

27 The spirit of man is the lamp of Jehovah,

Searching all his innermost parts.

28 Kindness and truth preserve the king;

And his throne is upholden by kindness.

29 The glory of young men is their strength;

And the beauty of old men is the hoary head.

30 Stripes that wound cleanse away evil;

And strokes reach the innermost parts.
