Jó 15

1 Then Eliphaz the Temanite answered,

2 "Should a wise man answer with vain knowledge,

and fill himself with the east wind?

3 Should he reason with unprofitable talk,

or with speeches with which he can do no good?

4 Yes, you do away with fear,

and hinder devotion before God.

5 For your iniquity teaches your mouth,

and you choose the language of the crafty.

6 Your own mouth condemns you, and not I.

Yes, your own lips testify against you.

7 "Are you the first man who was born?

Or were you brought out before the hills?

8 Have you heard the secret counsel of God?

Do you limit wisdom to yourself?

9 What do you know that we don’t know?

What do you understand which is not in us?

10 With us are both the gray-headed and the very aged men,

much older than your father.

11 Are the consolations of God too small for you,

even the word that is gentle toward you?

12 Why does your heart carry you away?

Why do your eyes flash,

13 that you turn your spirit against God,

and let such words go out of your mouth?

14 What is man, that he should be clean?

What is he who is born of a woman, that he should be righteous?

15 Behold, he puts no trust in his holy ones.

Yes, the heavens are not clean in his sight;

16 how much less one who is abominable and corrupt,

a man who drinks iniquity like water!

17 "I will show you, listen to me;

that which I have seen I will declare

18 (which wise men have told by their fathers,

and have not hidden it;

19 to whom alone the land was given,

and no stranger passed among them):

20 the wicked man writhes in pain all his days,

even the number of years that are laid up for the oppressor.

21 A sound of terrors is in his ears.

In prosperity the destroyer will come on him.

22 He doesn’t believe that he will return out of darkness.

He is waited for by the sword.

23 He wanders abroad for bread, saying, ‘Where is it?’

He knows that the day of darkness is ready at his hand.

24 Distress and anguish make him afraid.

They prevail against him, as a king ready to the battle.

25 Because he has stretched out his hand against God,

and behaves himself proudly against the Almighty,

26 he runs at him with a stiff neck,

with the thick shields of his bucklers,

27 because he has covered his face with his fatness,

and gathered fat on his thighs.

28 He has lived in desolate cities,

in houses which no one inhabited,

which were ready to become heaps.

29 He will not be rich, neither will his substance continue,

neither will their possessions be extended on the earth.

30 He will not depart out of darkness.

The flame will dry up his branches.

He will go away by the breath of God’s mouth.

31 Let him not trust in emptiness, deceiving himself,

for emptiness will be his reward.

32 It will be accomplished before his time.

His branch will not be green.

33 He will shake off his unripe grape as the vine,

and will cast off his flower as the olive tree.

34 For the company of the godless will be barren,

and fire will consume the tents of bribery.

35 They conceive mischief and produce iniquity.

Their heart prepares deceit."

Elifas andra tal

1 Då tog Elifas från Teman till orda och sade:

2 *Job 6:26, Hos 12:2. Ska en vis man tala så i vädret

och fylla sitt bröst

med östanvind?

3 Ska han försvara sin sak

med värdelöst tal,

med ord till ingen nytta?

4 Ja, du gör gudsfruktan om intet

och hindrar andakt inför Gud,

5 för din synd lägger orden i din mun

och du väljer listigt tal.

6 *Job 18:7, Matt 12:37. Din egen mun dömer dig, inte jag,

dina egna läppar vittnar emot dig.

7 *Job 38:4, Ords 8:25. Var du den första människa

som föddes?

Blev du till innan höjderna fanns?

8 *Jes 40:13, Jer 23:18, Rom 11:34, 1 Kor 2:16. Var du åhörare i Guds hemliga råd?

Har du tagit visheten

för dig själv?

9 *Job 12:3, 13:2. Vad vet du som vi inte vet?

Vad förstår du som vi inte förstår?

10 *Job 32:7. Här hos oss finns

både gråhårsman och åldring,

mycket äldre än din far.

11 Är inte Guds tröst nog för dig,

de milda ord som talas till dig?

12 Varför leds du bort av ditt hjärta

och varför gnistrar dina ögon?

13 Du vänder din ande mot Gud

och öser ut ord ur din mun.

att hon skulle vara ren,

att en av kvinna född

skulle vara rättfärdig?

15 *Job 4:17f. Gud kan inte lita på sina heliga,

inför hans ögon

är inte himlarna rena,

16 hur mycket mindre då den

som är avskyvärd och fördärvad,

en människa

som dricker orättfärdighet

som vatten!

17 Lyssna, jag vill säga dig något,

det som jag sett vill jag berätta,

18 vad visa män fört vidare

från sina fäder och inte förtigit,

19 från dem som ensamma fick landet

utan att någon främling

trängde in bland dem:

20 *Jes 48:22. Den gudlöse plågas av ångest

i alla sina dagar,

den våldsammes år är räknade.

21 *3 Mos 26:36, 5 Mos 28:65, Job 18:11. Skräckröster ljuder i hans öron.

I hans trygghet kommer förhärjaren

över honom.

22 Han har inget hopp om räddning

ur mörkret,

svärdet är bestämt för honom.

23 *Job 18:12, 30:3. Han irrar efter bröd

och undrar var det finns.

Han vet att mörkrets dag är nära.

24 Ångest och nöd skrämmer honom,

de slår ner honom

som en kung rustad till strid,

25 för han har lyft sin hand mot Gud

och förhäver sig

mot den Allsmäktige.

26 Med styv nacke

stormar han mot honom,

väl skyddad bakom sina sköldar.

27 *Ps 73:7. Han har täckt sitt ansikte med fetma

och hans midja sväller av fett.

28 Han bosätter sig i ödelagda städer,

i hus där man inte kan bo,

som är bestämda till ruiner.

29 Han blir inte rik,

hans välstånd ska inte bestå,

hans skördar ska inte luta tungt

mot marken.

30 *Job 4:9, 20:26, 31:12, Ps 55:24, Pred 9:12, Jes 11:4. Han kan inte fly undan mörkret,

hans knoppar ska förtorka

av hetta,

han ska förgås

31 Han ska inte lita till tomhet,

då bedrar han sig,

för tomhet blir hans lön.

32 *Job 22:16, Ps 55:24, Pred 7:17, 9:12. I förtid ska hans mått bli fyllt,

och hans krona

ska inte grönska mer.

33 Han ska tappa sina omogna druvor

som en vinstock,

fälla sina blommor som ett olivträd,

34 för den gudlöses hus

blir ofruktsamt

och eld förtär de hus där mutor tas.

och föder fördärv,

deras moderliv alstrar förvillelse.
