1 Pois Jeová se compadecerá de Jacó, ainda escolherá a Israel e pô-los-á na própria terra deles. Agregar-se-ão a eles os estrangeiros, e estes se apegarão à casa de Jacó.2 Os povos os tomarão e os levarão ao lugar deles, e a casa de Israel os possuirá na terra de Jeová para servos e para servas. Cativarão aqueles que os haviam cativado, e dominarão sobre os seus opressores.3 No dia em que Jeová te der descanso do teu trabalho, da tua inquietação e da dura escravidão em que foste obrigado a servir,4 usarás desta parábola contra o rei de Babilônia, e dirás: Como tem cessado o opressor! Como tem cessado a tirania!5 Jeová quebrou o bordão dos perversos, a vara dos dominadores,6 que furiosa e incessantemente feria os povos com açoites e que em ira dominava as nações com uma perseguição irresistível.7 A terra toda descansa e está sossegada: rompem em júbilo.8 Até os ciprestes e os cedros do Líbano se regozijam sobre ti, dizendo: Desde que caíste por terra, não sobe quem nos corte.9 O Cheol lá em baixo está por tua causa turbado, para te encontrar na tua vinda: por tua causa desperta as sombras, os principais da terra, e faz levantar-se dos seus tronos a todos os reis das nações.10 Todos eles responderão e te dirão: Também tu estás fraco como nós? tornas-te semelhante a nós?11 Abatida está até o Cheol a tua pompa, o som das tuas harpas: debaixo de ti estendem-se os gusanos, e os bichos te servem de coberta.12 Como caíste do céu, ó estrela radiante, filho da alva! como estás cortado até a terra, tu que abatias as nações!13 Tu dizias no teu coração: Subirei ao céu, exaltarei o meu trono acima das estrelas de Deus e sentar-me-ei no monte da congregação nas extremidades do norte.14 Subirei acima das alturas das nuvens, e serei semelhante ao Altíssimo.15 Todavia serás precipitado para o Cheol, para as extremidades do abismo.16 Os que te virem, te contemplarão, em ti fitarão os olhos e dirão: Acaso é este o homem que fez estremecer a terra, e tremer os reinos?17 que tornou o mundo em deserto e destruiu as suas cidades? e que a seus presos não os deixou ir soltos para suas casas?18 Todos os reis das nações, sim todos eles, dormem com glória, cada um em sua casa.19 Mas tu és lançado para longe do teu sepulcro como um renovo abominável, coberto com os mortos que são traspassados pela espada e descem às pedras da cova; como um cadáver pisado aos pés.20 Tu te unirás com eles na sepultura, porque destruíste a tua terra, mataste o teu povo. A semente dos malfeitores não será nomeada para sempre.21 Preparai uma matança para seus filhos por causa da iniqüidade de seus pais, para que não se levantem e possuam a terra, e encham de cidades a face do mundo.22 Levantar-me-ei contra eles, diz Jeová dos exércitos; exterminarei de Babilônia o nome e os sobreviventes, o filho e o neto, diz Jeová.23 Reduzi-la-ei a uma possessão de ouriços e a lagoas de águas, e varrê-la-ei com a vassoura da destruição, diz Jeová dos exércitos.24 Jurou Jeová dos exércitos, dizendo: Deveras como pensei, assim subsistirá.25 Quebrantarei o assírio na minha terra e nos meus montes o pisarei aos pés. Então ser-lhes-á tirado o jugo dele, e o peso dele se descarregará dos ombros deles.26 Este é o propósito que se formou sobre toda a terra; e esta é a mão que está estendida sobre todas as nações.27 Pois Jeová dos exércitos formou o propósito, e quem o invalidará? a sua mão está estendida, e quem a fará voltar para trás?28 No ano em que o rei Acaz morreu, houve esta sentença.29 Não te regozijes, Filístia toda, por se ter quebrado a vara que te feria. Pois da raiz da cobra sairá um basilisco, e o seu fruto será uma serpente voadora.30 Serão apascentados os primogênitos dos pobres e se deitarão em segurança os necessitados. Farei morrer de fome a tua raiz, e os teus sobreviventes serão mortos.31 Dá uivos, ó porta; grita, ó cidade; tu, Filístia toda, estás derretida; porque do norte vem um fumo, e não há quem se afaste das fileiras.32 Que se responderá então aos mensageiros da nação? Que Jeová fundou a Sião, e nela acharão refúgio os aflitos do seu povo.
1 Jehovah will have compassion on Jacob and again choose Israel. He will resettle them in their own country. Foreigners will join them and unite with the descendants of Jacob.2 People will take them and bring them to their own place. The nation of Israel will possess nations as male and female slaves in Jehovahs land. They will take their captors captive and rule their oppressors.3 When that day comes, Jehovah will give you relief from your pain and suffering, from the hard slavery you were forced to do.4 You will mock the king of Babylon with this saying: »How the tyrant has come to an end! How his attacks have come to an end!5 »Jehovah has broken the staff of the wicked, the scepter of rulers.6 »They struck the people with fury, with blows that did not stop. They ruled nations in anger, persecuting them without restraint.7 »The whole earth rests and is quiet. It breaks out into shouts of joy.8 »Even the cypress trees rejoice over you. The cedars of Lebanon say: Since you have fallen, no lumberjack has come to attack us.9 »The grave below wakes up to meet you when you come. It wakes up those who are dead, all who were leaders on earth. It raises all who were kings of the nations from their thrones.10 »All of them will greet you: You also have become weak like us! You have become like one of us!11 »Your pride has been brought down to the grave along with the music of your harps. Maggots are spread out like a bed under you, and worms cover you.12 »O how you have fallen from heaven, you morning star shining one, and son of the dawn! How you have been cut down to the ground, you who conquered nations!13 »You thought: I will go up to heaven Mount Zion and set up my throne above God's stars messengers. I will sit on the mountain of meeting far away in the north where the gods assemble.14 »I will go above the top of the clouds. I will be like the Most High.15 »But you have been brought down to the grave, to the deepest part of the pit.16 »Those who see you stare at you. They look at you closely and say: Is this the man who made the earth tremble, who shook the kingdoms,17 who made the world like a desert and tore down its cities and did not let his prisoners go home?18 All the kings of the nations, all of them, have been buried with honor, each in his own tomb.19 However you are thrown out of your tomb like a rejected branch. You are covered with those who were killed in battle. You go down to the stones bottom of the pit like a trampled corpse.20 You ruined your country and killed your own people. For that reason, you will not be buried like other kings. None of your evil family will survive.21 »Prepare a slaughtering place! The sons of this king will die because of their ancestors' sins. None of them will ever rule the earth or cover it with cities.«22 Jehovah of Hosts declares: »I will attack Babylon and bring it to ruin. I will leave nothing! There will be no children, no survivors at all. I, Jehovah, have spoken.23 »I will turn Babylon into a marsh. Porcupines will live there. I will sweep Babylon with a broom that will sweep everything away.« I, the Sovereign Lord Jehovah have spoken.24 Jehovah of Hosts has sworn an oath: »What I have intended devised will happen. What I have determined to do will be done.25 »In my land of Israel I will trample them on my mountains. I will free my people from the Assyrian yoke and from the burdens they have had to bear.«26 This is my purpose planadvise for the world, and my arm extended power is stretched out to punish the nations.27 Jehovah of Hosts is determined to do this. He has stretched out his arm to punish, and no one can stop him.28 This message was proclaimed in the year that King Ahaz died:29 »The rod that beat you is broken, but you have no reason to be glad. When one snake dies, a worse one comes in its place. A snake's egg hatches a flying dragon.30 »Jehovah will be a shepherd to the poor of his people and will let them live in safety. But he will send a terrible famine on you Philistines. It will not leave any of you alive.31 »Howl and cry for help, all you Philistine cities! Be terrified, all of you! A cloud of dust is coming from the north. It is an army with no cowards in its ranks.«32 What then will one answer the messengers that come to us from Philistia? We will tell them that Jehovah has established Zion and in her the poor and afflicted of his people find refuge.
