1 Τότε ο Σολομών άρχισε να χτίζει το ναό του Κυρίου στην Ιερουσαλήμ, στο όρος Μοριά,*όρος Μοριά. Το μόνο σημείο στην ΠΔ όπου το όνομα αυτό δίνεται στο λόφο, που ονομαζόταν Σιών. Στο Γεν 22 γίνεται λόγος για τη «χώρα Μοριά» (στ. 2), όπου βρίσκεται το ομώνυμο βουνό ή το βουνό όπου «ο Κύριος προβλέπει ή βλέπει» (στ. 14). Εκ τούτου ο συγγραφέας των Χρονικών ταυτίζει το λόφο του ναού με το «όρος του Κυρίου». όπου ο Κύριος είχε φανερωθεί στο Δαβίδ, τον πατέρα του. Ο Δαβίδ είχε ήδη ετοιμάσει τον τόπο, στο αλώνι του Ορνά του Ιεβουσαίου. 2 Η εργασία άρχισε τη δεύτερη μέρα του δεύτερου μήνα του τέταρτου έτους της βασιλείας του.

3 Οι διαστάσεις των θεμελίων πάνω στα οποία επρόκειτο να χτίσει ο Σολομών το ναό του Θεού, ήταν μήκος εξήντα πήχεις, με βάση τον παλαιό πήχυ, και πλάτος είκοσι πήχεις. 4 Ο πρόναος είχε μήκος όσο και το πλάτος του κυρίως ναού, δηλαδή είκοσι πήχεις, και ύψος εκατόν είκοσι.*εκατόν είκοσι. Κατά το Α΄ Βασ 6:2 «τριάντα». Εσωτερικά ο πρόναος καλύφθηκε με καθαρό χρυσάφι. 5 Τον κυρίως ναό τον επένδυσε από μέσα με ξύλο από κυπαρίσσι και τον κάλυψε με καθαρό χρυσάφι, που πάνω του σκάλισε φοίνικες και διάφορα διακοσμητικά πλέγματα. 6 Στόλισε επίσης το εσωτερικό του ναού με πολύτιμα πετράδια για ομορφιά. Το χρυσάφι ήταν από τη Φαρουΐμ. 7 Με το ίδιο χρυσάφι κάλυψε επίσης τα δοκάρια, τους στύλους, τους τοίχους και τις πόρτες του· στους τοίχους σκάλισε χερουβίμ.

8 Έπειτα ο Σολομών κατασκεύασε τα άγια των αγίων του ναού, που είχαν το ίδιο μήκος και πλάτος, δηλαδή από είκοσι πήχεις, ίσο με το πλάτος του ναού, και τα επένδυσε με καθαρό χρυσάφι εξακοσίων ταλάντων. 9 Το βάρος των καρφιών ήταν πενήντα σίκλοι χρυσού. Τα πάνω δωμάτια τα επένδυσε κι αυτά με χρυσό.

10 Κατασκεύασε δύο χερουβίμ, έργο σκαλιστό, ντυμένο με χρυσάφι, και τα τοποθέτησε στα άγια των αγίων. 11-13 Τα χερουβίμ στέκονταν όρθια πλάι πλάι, με τα κεφάλια στραμμένα προς την είσοδο. Καθένα είχε δυο φτερούγες που το άνοιγμά τους ήταν πέντε πήχεις η καθεμιά· η μία άγγιζε τον τοίχο του οικήματος και η άλλη ακουμπούσε στη φτερούγα του άλλου χερούβ. Τα τέσσερα φτερά ανοιγμένα είχαν μάκρος είκοσι πήχεις. 14 Κατασκεύασε το καταπέτασμα από θαλασσί, πορφυρό, κόκκινο και λεπτό λινό ύφασμα, και πάνω του ύφανε χερουβίμ.

15 Μπροστά στο ναό ο Σολομών κατασκεύασε*κατασκεύασε. Σύμφωνα με το κεφ. 4:11 και την παράλληλη διήγηση του Α΄ Βασ 7 κατασκευαστής όλων αυτών των έργων ήταν ο Χιράμ ή Χουράμ. δύο στύλους· καθένας τους είχε ύψος τριάντα πέντε πήχεις και το κιονόκρανο, στην κορυφή καθενός, ήταν πέντε πήχεις. 16 Έφτιαξε διακοσμητικά πλέγματα σαν περιδέραιο*Μετά τη λέξη αυτή το εβραϊκό έχει: «στα άγια των αγίων». και τα έβαλε στην κορυφή των στύλων, κι ακόμη κατασκεύασε εκατό ρόδια και τα κρέμασε από τα πλέγματα. 17 Έστησε τους στύλους μπροστά στο ναό, τον ένα δεξιά και τον άλλο αριστερά, και ονόμασε τον δεξιό «Ιαχείν» (Ο Θεός θα στηρίξει) και τον αριστερό «Βοάζ» (Στο Θεό είναι η Δύναμη).

3 Now these are the things wherein Solomon was instructed for the building of the house of God. The length by cubits after the first measure was threescore cubits, and the breadth twenty cubits.*3.3 instructed: Heb. founded 4 And the porch that was in the front of the house, the length of it was according to the breadth of the house, twenty cubits, and the height was an hundred and twenty: and he overlaid it within with pure gold. 5 And the greater house he cieled with fir tree, which he overlaid with fine gold, and set thereon palm trees and chains. 6 And he garnished the house with precious stones for beauty: and the gold was gold of Parvaim.*3.6 garnished: Heb. covered 7 He overlaid also the house, the beams, the posts, and the walls thereof, and the doors thereof, with gold; and graved cherubims on the walls. 8 And he made the most holy house, the length whereof was according to the breadth of the house, twenty cubits, and the breadth thereof twenty cubits: and he overlaid it with fine gold, amounting to six hundred talents. 9 And the weight of the nails was fifty shekels of gold. And he overlaid the upper chambers with gold.

10 And in the most holy house he made two cherubims of image work, and overlaid them with gold.*3.10 image…: or, (as some think) of moveable work

11 And the wings of the cherubims were twenty cubits long: one wing of the one cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house: and the other wing was likewise five cubits, reaching to the wing of the other cherub. 12 And one wing of the other cherub was five cubits, reaching to the wall of the house: and the other wing was five cubits also, joining to the wing of the other cherub. 13 The wings of these cherubims spread themselves forth twenty cubits: and they stood on their feet, and their faces were inward.*3.13 inward: or, toward the house
