1 Όταν τέλειωσε η γιορτή, όλοι οι Ισραηλίτες που βρίσκονταν στην Ιερουσαλήμ, βγήκαν στις πόλεις του Ιούδα και κομμάτιασαν όλες τις πέτρινες και τις ξύλινες λατρευτικές στήλες και ισοπέδωσαν τους ιερούς τόπους με τα θυσιαστήριά τους. Τις ίδιες καταστροφές έκαναν και στην υπόλοιπη περιοχή της φυλής Ιούδα κι επίσης στις περιοχές των φυλών Βενιαμίν, Εφραΐμ και Μανασσή. Έπειτα γύρισαν καθένας στο σπίτι του, στην πόλη του.

2 Ο Εζεκίας αναδιοργάνωσε τις τάξεις των ιερέων και των λευιτών και τους ανέθεσε υπηρεσίες μέσα κι έξω από το ναό: Τους ιερείς τους διόρισε να προσφέρουν τα ολοκαυτώματα και τις θυσίες κοινωνίας, και στους λευίτες ανέθεσε να τους βοηθούν κι επίσης να δίνουν την ευλογία στον Κύριο με μουσικά όργανα και υμνωδίες.

3 Επίσης καθόρισε τη συμμετοχή του βασιλιά από τα υπάρχοντά του στα πρωϊνά και βραδινά ολοκαυτώματα, στα ολοκαυτώματα των Σαββάτων, των νουμηνιών και των επίσημων εορτών, σύμφωνα με τα γραμμένα στο νόμο του Κυρίου.

4 Έπειτα ο βασιλιάς διέταξε όλους τους κατοίκους της Ιερουσαλήμ, να συνεισφέρουν το μερίδιο που δικαιούνταν να παίρνουν οι ιερείς και οι λευίτες, ώστε αυτοί να μπορούν να αφιερώνουν όλο το χρόνο τους στην εκτέλεση του νόμου του Κυρίου. 5 Όταν κοινοποιήθηκε η διαταγή, οι Ισραηλίτες έφεραν από τα πρωτογεννήματά τους μεγάλες ποσότητες σιτάρι, νέο κρασί, λάδι και μέλι. Έτσι, το δέκατο που έφεραν από κάθε προϊόν ήταν άφθονο. 6 Επίσης οι κάτοικοι των πόλεων του Ιούδα, είτε αυτοί ανήκαν στο βασίλειο του Ιούδα είτε στου Ισραήλ, έφεραν το δέκατο από τα βόδια τους, από τα πρόβατά τους κι από τα αφιερώματα που προορίζονταν για τον Κύριο το Θεό και τα έβαλαν σε σωρούς.

7 Τον τρίτο μήνα του έτους άρχισαν να σχηματίζουν τους σωρούς και τον έβδομο μήνα τέλειωσαν. 8 Όταν ο Εζεκίας και οι άρχοντες ήρθαν και είδαν τις μεγάλες αυτές ποσότητες, ευλόγησαν τον Κύριο και το λαό του τον Ισραήλ.

9 Έπειτα, ο Εζεκίας ρώτησε τους ιερείς και τους λευίτες για τους σωρούς, 10 και ο αρχιερέας Αζαρίας, απόγονος του Σαδώκ, του απάντησε: «Από τότε που ο λαός άρχισε να φέρνει τις προσφορές στο ναό του Κυρίου, φάγαμε και χορτάσαμε και περίσσεψαν πολλά. Η αφθονία αυτή υπάρχει επειδή ο Κύριος ευλόγησε το λαό του».

11 Τότε ο Εζεκίας διέταξε να ετοιμάσουν αποθηκευτικούς χώρους στο ναό του Κυρίου. Τους ετοίμασαν 12 και φύλαξαν μέσα σ’ αυτούς τα πρωτογεννήματα, τις δεκάτες και τα αφιερώματα. Επόπτης όλων αυτών διορίστηκε ο λευίτης Κωνανίας, με βοηθό τον αδερφό του το Σιμεΐ. 13 Οι Ιεχιήλ, Ασαζίας, Νάχαθ, Ασαήλ, Ιεριμώθ, Ιωζαβάδ, Ελιήλ, Ιαμαχίας, Μαχάθ και Βεναΐας ήταν επόπτες του ναού υπό την οδηγία του Κωνανία και του Σιμεΐ του αδερφού του, σύμφωνα με εντολή του βασιλιά Εζεκία και του Αζαρία, αρχιερέα του ναού του Θεού.

14 Ο Κωρή, γιος του λευίτη Ιμνά και θυρωρός της ανατολικής πύλης του ναού, ήταν επόπτης για τις προαιρετικές προσφορές που έφερναν στο Θεό· αυτός ξεχώριζε τις προσφορές που διαμοιράζονταν στους ιερείς από τα αγιότατα τμήματα των προσφορών, που ούτε οι ιερείς επιτρεπόταν να τα φάνε. 15 Επίσης, στις διαταγές του Κωρή ήταν οι Εδέν, Μινιαμίν, Ιησούς, Σεμαΐας, Αμαρίας και Σεχανίας. Αυτοί ήταν εγκατεστημένοι στις πόλεις των ιερέων,*πόλεις των ιερέων. Ονομάζονται επίσης και «πόλεις των λευιτών» (βλ. Αρ 35:1-8· Ιησ 21:1-42). υπεύθυνοι να μοιράζουν την τροφή στους συναδέλφους των σύμφωνα με τις τάξεις τους, εξίσου σε μεγάλους και μικρούς. 16 Όλοι οι αρσενικοί, από τριών ετών και πάνω, που είχαν καταγραφεί στους γενεαλογικούς καταλόγους, έπαιρναν μερίδιο, εκτός από τους ιερείς εκείνους, που η τάξη τους έπρεπε να πάει στην Ιερουσαλήμ για να εκτελέσει τα καθημερινά της καθήκοντα. 17 Η καταγραφή των ιερέων είχε γίνει κατά συγγένειες. Αλλά οι κατάλογοι των λευιτών είχαν καταρτιστεί σύμφωνα με τις τάξεις τους και τα καθήκοντά τους, στα οποία ήταν διορισμένοι από ηλικία είκοσι ετών. 18 Οι ιερείς και οι λευίτες είχαν καταγραφεί μαζί με τις οικογένειές τους, τις γυναίκες τους, τους γιους τους και τις κόρες τους. Οι οικογένειές τους θεωρούνταν καθαρές, όπως και οι άντρες, οι οποίοι ήταν πάντοτε έτοιμοι να εκτελέσουν τις ιερές υποχρεώσεις τους για λογαριασμό της συγκέντρωσης. 19 Όσο για τους ιερείς απογόνους του Ααρών, που ζούσαν στα περίχωρα των πόλεων των ιερέων, είχαν κι αυτοί σε κάθε πόλη ανθρώπους διορισμένους ονομαστικώς για να διανέμουν τα μερίδιά τους σε όλα τα αρσενικά των οικογενειών των ιερέων, καθώς και στους λευίτες, που ήταν καταχωρισμένοι στους καταλόγους των λευιτών.*Η κατανόηση των στ. 15-19 στο εβρ. είναι δύσκολη.

20 Έτσι έκανε ο Εζεκίας σ’ όλο το βασίλειο του Ιούδα. Έπραξε ό,τι ήταν καλό και σωστό και ό,τι ευχαριστούσε τον Κύριο το Θεό του. 21 Κάθε έργο που άρχιζε για να επισκευάσει το ναό του Θεού, ή για να επιβάλει το νόμο και τις εντολές του, το έκανε προσπαθώντας να γνωρίσει το θέλημα του Θεού· ενεργούσε έτσι μ’ όλη του την καρδιά, και ο Θεός τού χάριζε την επιτυχία.

1 Now when all this was finished, all Israel that were present went out to the cities of Judah, and brake the images in pieces, and cut down the groves, and threw down the high places and the altars out of all Judah and Benjamin, in Ephraim also and Manasseh, until they had utterly destroyed them all. 2 And Hezekiah appointed the courses of the priests and the Levites after their courses, every man according to his service, the priests and Levites for burnt offerings and for peace offerings, to minister, and to give thanks, and to praise in the gates of the tents of the LORD. 3 He appointed also the king’s portion of his substance for the burnt offerings, to wit, for the morning and evening burnt offerings, and the burnt offerings for the sabbaths, and for the new moons, and for the set feasts, as it is written in the law of the LORD. 4 Moreover he commanded the people that dwelt in Jerusalem to give the portion of the priests and the Levites, that they might be encouraged in the law of the LORD.

5 And as soon as the commandment came abroad, the children of Israel brought in abundance the firstfruits of corn, wine, and oil, and honey, and of all the increase of the field; and the tithe of all things brought they in abundantly.*31.5 came…: Heb. brake forth*31.5 honey: or, dates 6 And concerning the children of Israel and Judah, that dwelt in the cities of Judah, they also brought in the tithe of oxen and sheep, and the tithe of holy things which were consecrated unto the LORD their God, and laid them by heaps.*31.6 by heaps: Heb. heaps, heaps 7 In the third month they began to lay the foundation of the heaps, and finished them in the seventh month. 8 And when Hezekiah and the princes came and saw the heaps, they blessed the LORD, and his people Israel. 9 Then Hezekiah questioned with the priests and the Levites concerning the heaps. 10 And Azariah the chief priest of the house of Zadok answered him, and said, Since the people began to bring the offerings into the house of the LORD, we have had enough to eat, and have left plenty: for the LORD hath blessed his people; and that which is left is this great store.

20 And thus did Hezekiah throughout all Judah, and wrought that which was good and right and truth before the LORD his God. 21 And in every work that he began in the service of the house of God, and in the law, and in the commandments, to seek his God, he did it with all his heart, and prospered.
