Jeremias 25

1 The word that came to Jeremiah concerning all the people of Judah, in the fourth year of Jehoiakim the son of Josiah, king of Judah (this was the first year of Nebuchadnezzar king of Babylon), 2 which Jeremiah the prophet spoke to all the people of Judah, and to all the inhabitants of Jerusalem: 3 From the thirteenth year of Josiah the son of Amon, king of Judah, even to this day, these twenty-three years, Yahweh’s word has come to me, and I have spoken to you, rising up early and speaking; but you have not listened.

4 Yahweh has sent to you all his servants the prophets, rising up early and sending them (but you have not listened or inclined your ear to hear), 5 saying, "Return now everyone from his evil way, and from the evil of your doings, and dwell in the land that Yahweh has given to you and to your fathers, from of old and even forever more. 6 Don’t go after other gods to serve them or worship them, and don’t provoke me to anger with the work of your hands; then I will do you no harm."

7 "Yet you have not listened to me," says Yahweh, "that you may provoke me to anger with the work of your hands to your own hurt."

8 Therefore Yahweh of Armies says: "Because you have not heard my words, 9 behold, I will send and take all the families of the north," says Yahweh, "and I will send to Nebuchadnezzar the king of Babylon, my servant, and will bring them against this land, and against its inhabitants, and against all these nations around. I will utterly destroy them, and make them an astonishment, and a hissing, and perpetual desolations. 10 Moreover I will take from them the voice of mirth and the voice of gladness, the voice of the bridegroom and the voice of the bride, the sound of the millstones, and the light of the lamp. 11 This whole land will be a desolation, and an astonishment; and these nations will serve the king of Babylon seventy years.

12 "It will happen, when seventy years are accomplished, that I will punish the king of Babylon and that nation," says Yahweh, "for their iniquity. I will make the land of the Chaldeans desolate forever. 13 I will bring on that land all my words which I have pronounced against it, even all that is written in this book, which Jeremiah has prophesied against all the nations. 14 For many nations and great kings will make bondservants of them, even of them. I will recompense them according to their deeds, and according to the work of their hands."

15 For Yahweh, the God of Israel, says to me: "Take this cup of the wine of wrath from my hand, and cause all the nations to whom I send you to drink it. 16 They will drink, and reel back and forth, and be insane, because of the sword that I will send among them."

17 Then I took the cup at Yahweh’s hand, and made all the nations to drink, to whom Yahweh had sent me: 18 Jerusalem, and the cities of Judah, with its kings and its princes, to make them a desolation, an astonishment, a hissing, and a curse, as it is today; 19 Pharaoh king of Egypt, with his servants, his princes, and all his people; 20 and all the mixed people, and all the kings of the land of Uz, all the kings of the Philistines, Ashkelon, Gaza, Ekron, and the remnant of Ashdod; 21 Edom, Moab, and the children of Ammon; 22 and all the kings of Tyre, all the kings of Sidon, and the kings of the isle which is beyond the sea; 23 Dedan, Tema, Buz, and all who have the corners of their beard cut off; 24 and all the kings of Arabia, all the kings of the mixed people who dwell in the wilderness; 25 and all the kings of Zimri, all the kings of Elam, and all the kings of the Medes; 26 and all the kings of the north, far and near, one with another; and all the kingdoms of the world, which are on the surface of the earth. The king of Sheshach will drink after them.

27 "You shall tell them, ‘Yahweh of Armies, the God of Israel says: "Drink, and be drunk, vomit, fall, and rise no more, because of the sword which I will send among you."’ 28 It shall be, if they refuse to take the cup at your hand to drink, then you shall tell them, ‘Yahweh of Armies says: "You shall surely drink. 29 For, behold, I begin to work evil at the city which is called by my name; and should you be utterly unpunished? You will not be unpunished; for I will call for a sword on all the inhabitants of the earth, says Yahweh of Armies."’

30 "Therefore prophesy against them all these words, and tell them,

"‘Yahweh will roar from on high,

and utter his voice from his holy habitation.

He will mightily roar against his fold.

He will give a shout, as those who tread grapes,

against all the inhabitants of the earth.

31 A noise will come even to the end of the earth;

for Yahweh has a controversy with the nations.

He will enter into judgment with all flesh.

As for the wicked, he will give them to the sword,"’ says Yahweh."

32 Yahweh of Armies says,

"Behold, evil will go out from nation to nation,

and a great storm will be raised up from the uttermost parts of the earth."

33 The slain of Yahweh will be at that day from one end of the earth even to the other end of the earth. They won’t be lamented. They won’t be gathered or buried. They will be dung on the surface of the ground.

34 Wail, you shepherds, and cry.

Wallow in dust, you leader of the flock;

for the days of your slaughter and of your dispersions have fully come,

and you will fall like fine pottery.

35 The shepherds will have no way to flee.

The leader of the flock will have no escape.

36 A voice of the cry of the shepherds,

and the wailing of the leader of the flock,

for Yahweh destroys their pasture.

37 The peaceful folds are brought to silence

because of the fierce anger of Yahweh.

38 He has left his covert, as the lion;

for their land has become an astonishment because of the fierceness of the oppression,

and because of his fierce anger.

Profetia om sjuttioårig fångenskap

3 *Jer 1:2, 2 Krön 34:1f. Ända från Juda kung Josias, Amons sons, trettonde regeringsår och till i dag, i tjugotre år, har Herrens ord kommit till mig. Jag har talat till er gång på gång, men ni har inte velat höra. 4 *2 Kung 17:13f, Jer 7:13, 25f, 26:5, 35:15, 44:4f.Herren har sänt er alla sina tjänare profeterna gång på gång, men ni har inte lyssnat eller vänt örat till för att höra. 5 *Jer 18:11, 35:15, Hes 14:6, 18:30, Sak 1:4. De sade: "Vänd om, var och en från sin onda väg och sina onda gärningar! Men ni har inte lyssnat till mig, säger Herren, utan väckt min vrede med era händers verk till er egen olycka.

8 Därför säger Herren Sebaot så: Eftersom ni inte har lyssnat till mina ord, 9 *Jer 1:15, 27:6, 28:14, 43:10. ska jag kalla på alla folkstammarna i norr, säger Herren, och jag ska skicka efter min tjänare Nebukadressar,*25:9min tjänare NebukadressarAnvänd för Guds dom (liksom Assur i Jes 10:5). Nebukadnessar erkände också själv till slut Guds överhöghet (Dan 3:28f, 4:31f). Babels kung. Och jag ska låta dem anfalla detta land och dem som bor här och alla hednafolken runt omkring. Jag ska bland dem göra slut på jubelrop och glädjerop, rop för brudgum och rop för brud, kvarnens buller och lampans ljus. 11 Hela detta land ska ödeläggas och förstöras, och dessa länder ska tjäna Babels kung i sjuttio år*25:11tjäna Babels kung i sjuttio årKanske räknat från ca 609 f Kr, då Nebukadnessars far Nabopolassar krossade Assyriens sista motståndsfäste (jfr 2 Kung 23:29 med not) och fick makten i regionen, till 539 f Kr då perserna intog Babel (Dan 5, Esra 1)..

12 *2 Krön 36:21f, Esra 1:1, Jer 29:10, Dan 9:2, Sak 1:12. Men när sjuttio år har gått ska jag straffa Babels kung och folket där för deras missgärning, säger Herren, och kaldeernas land ska jag göra till en ödemark för all framtid. 13 Jag ska låta alla de ord som jag talat mot det landet gå i uppfyllelse, allt som är skrivet i denna bok och som Jeremia har profeterat mot alla hednafolk. 14 Också dem ska mäktiga folk och stora kungar lägga under sig, och jag ska ge dem efter deras gärningar och deras händers verk.

Guds dom över folken

15 *Jer 48:26, 51:7, Upp 14:10, 16:19. För så sade Herren, Israels Gud, till mig: "Ta denna bägare med vredesvin ur min hand och låt alla hednafolk dit jag sänder dig dricka av den. 16 De ska dricka så att de raglar och förlorar förståndet på grund av det svärd som jag ska sända bland dem."

Och Sheshaks*25:26Sheshakär ett kryptogram för Babel. Det hebreiska alfabetets första bokstav ersätts med den sista, den andra med den näst sista osv. kung ska dricka efter dem.

27 *Jer 51:7, Hes 21:4f. Du ska säga till dem: Så säger Herren Sebaot, Israels Gud: Drick, så att ni blir druckna och spyr och faller utan att kunna resa er, på grund av det svärd som jag ska sända bland er. 28 Men om de inte vill ta emot bägaren ur din hand och dricka, så säg till dem: Så säger Herren Sebaot: Ni måste dricka! 29 *Ords 11:31, Jer 49:12, Hes 9:6, 1 Petr 4:17. För se, jag ska börja straffdomen med den stad som är uppkallad efter mitt namn. Skulle då ni bli ostraffade? Nej, ni ska inte bli ostraffade, utan jag ska kalla på ett svärd mot jordens alla invånare, säger Herren Sebaot.

30 *Jes 16:9f, Jer 51:14, 48:33, Joel 3:16, Amos 1:2. Allt detta ska du profetera för dem och säga till dem:

Herren ryter från höjden,

han höjer sin röst

från sin heliga boning.

Han ryter högt över sitt land

och höjer skörderop

som en vintrampare

över jordens alla invånare.

31 *Jes 34:2, Hes 20:35f. Larmet hörs till jordens ände,

för Herren går till rätta

med hednafolken,

han ska döma allt kött.

De ogudaktiga överlämnar han

åt svärdet, säger Herren.

32 Så säger Herren Sebaot:

Se, en ofärd går ut

från folk till folk

och en väldig storm stiger upp

från jordens yttersta ände.

33 *Jes 66:16, Jer 8:2, 9:22, 16:4. De som blir slagna av Herren

på den dagen

ska ligga från jordens ena ände

till den andra.

Man ska inte hålla dödsklagan

efter dem,

inte samla upp och begrava dem,

utan de ska bli gödsel på marken.

34 Jämra er, ni herdar, och klaga!

Vältra er på marken,

ni ledare för hjorden,

för tiden är inne

då ni ska slaktas.

Ni ska skingras

ingen möjlighet att komma undan

för hjordens ledare.

36 Hör herdarna ropa

och ledarna för hjorden jämra sig,

för Herren ödelägger

deras betesmark

37 och de fridfulla ängarna förstörs

på grund av Herrens

brinnande vrede.

38 Likt ett ungt lejon

drar han ut ur sitt snår.

Deras land blir en ödemark

på grund av förtryckarens svärd

och hans brinnande vrede.
