Jeremias 20

1 Now Pashhur, the son of Immer the priest, who was chief officer in Yahweh’s house, heard Jeremiah prophesying these things. 2 Then Pashhur struck Jeremiah the prophet and put him in the stocks that were in the upper gate of Benjamin, which was in Yahweh’s house. 3 On the next day, Pashhur released Jeremiah out of the stocks. Then Jeremiah said to him, "Yahweh has not called your name Pashhur, but Magormissabib.*20:3 "Magormissabib" means "surrounded by terror" 4 For Yahweh says, ‘Behold, I will make you a terror to yourself and to all your friends. They will fall by the sword of their enemies, and your eyes will see it. I will give all Judah into the hand of the king of Babylon, and he will carry them captive to Babylon, and will kill them with the sword. 5 Moreover I will give all the riches of this city, and all its gains, and all its precious things, yes, I will give all the treasures of the kings of Judah into the hand of their enemies. They will make them captives, take them, and carry them to Babylon. 6 You, Pashhur, and all who dwell in your house will go into captivity. You will come to Babylon, and there you will die, and there you will be buried, you, and all your friends, to whom you have prophesied falsely.’"

7 Yahweh, you have persuaded me, and I was persuaded.

You are stronger than I, and have prevailed.

I have become a laughingstock all day.

Everyone mocks me.

8 For as often as I speak, I cry out;

I cry, "Violence and destruction!"

because Yahweh’s word has been made a reproach to me,

and a derision, all day.

9 If I say that I will not make mention of him,

or speak any more in his name,

then there is in my heart as it were a burning fire shut up in my bones.

I am weary with holding it in.

I can’t.

10 For I have heard the defaming of many:

"Terror on every side!

Denounce, and we will denounce him!"

say all my familiar friends,

those who watch for my fall.

"Perhaps he will be persuaded,

and we will prevail against him,

and we will take our revenge on him."

11 But Yahweh is with me as an awesome mighty one.

Therefore my persecutors will stumble,

and they won’t prevail.

They will be utterly disappointed

because they have not dealt wisely,

even with an everlasting dishonor which will never be forgotten.

12 But Yahweh of Armies, who tests the righteous,

who sees the heart and the mind,

let me see your vengeance on them,

for I have revealed my cause to you.

13 Sing to Yahweh!

Praise Yahweh,

for he has delivered the soul of the needy from the hand of evildoers.

14 Cursed is the day in which I was born.

Don’t let the day in which my mother bore me be blessed.

15 Cursed is the man who brought news to my father, saying,

"A boy is born to you," making him very glad.

16 Let that man be as the cities which Yahweh overthrew,

and didn’t repent.

Let him hear a cry in the morning,

and shouting at noontime,

17 because he didn’t kill me from the womb.

So my mother would have been my grave,

and her womb always great.

18 Why did I come out of the womb to see labor and sorrow,

that my days should be consumed with shame?

Jeremia och prästen Pashur

1 *1 Krön 24:14, Esra 2:37f, Jer 38:1. När prästen Pashur, Immers son, som var överuppsyningsman i Herrens hus, hörde Jeremia profetera dessa ord, 2 *Jer 29:26, 37:15, 38:7f, Joh 18:22, Apg 23:2, 2 Kor 11:24f. lät han misshandla profeten Jeremia och satte honom i stocken i Övre Benjaminsporten till Herrens hus.

3 *Jer 6:25. Men när Pashur dagen därpå släppte Jeremia ur stocken, sade Jeremia till honom: "Herren kallar dig inte Pashur utan Magor-Missabib*20:3Magor-MissabibBetyder "skräck från alla håll"., 4 för så säger Herren: Jag ska göra dig till en skräck för både dig själv och alla dina vänner. De ska falla för sina fienders svärd och dina ögon ska se det. Hela Juda ska jag ge i den babyloniske kungens hand, och han ska föra bort dem till Babel och döda dem med svärd. 5 *2 Kung 20:17, Jes 39:6, Jer 15:13, 17:3. Alla rikedomar, ägodelar och dyrbarheter i denna stad och Juda kungars alla skatter ska jag ge i deras fienders hand. De ska ta det som byte och föra det till Babel.

6 *Amos 7:17. Och du själv, Pashur, ska gå i fångenskap med alla som bor i ditt hus. Du ska komma till Babel, där ska du dö, och där ska du begravas med alla dina vänner som du har profeterat lögn för."

Profetens klagan inför Herren

7 *Jer 1:6f, Klag 3:14, 63. Du, Herre, övertalade mig,

och jag lät mig övertalas.

Du grep mig

och besegrade mig.

Jag har blivit till ständigt åtlöje,

alla hånar mig.

8 Så ofta jag talar måste jag klaga,

ropa över våld och förtryck,

för Herrens ord drar spott och spe

över mig dagen lång.

9 *Job 32:18, Apg 4:20, 1 Kor 9:16. Men jag tänkte:

Jag vill glömma honom

och inte mer tala i hans namn.

Då blev det som en brinnande eld

i mitt hjärta, instängd i mitt inre.

Jag ansträngde mig

att hålla den inne

men lyckades inte.

10 *Neh 6:9, Ps 31:14. Jag hör många förtala mig,

det är skräck från alla håll:

"Ange honom!"

"Ja, vi ska ange honom!"

Alla som stått mig nära

väntar på att jag ska falla.

"Kanske låter han lura sig,

så kan vi besegra honom

och ta hämnd på honom."

11 *Jer 1:8, 19, 15:20, 17:18, 23:40. Men Herren är med mig

som en mäktig hjälte.

Därför ska mina förföljare falla

och inte besegra mig.

De ska stå där med stor skam,

för de har handlat utan förstånd.

De ska drabbas av evig vanära

som inte ska glömmas.

du prövar den rättfärdige,

du ser hjärtan och njurar*20:12hjärtan och njurarEn bild för människans innersta (jfr Ps 139:13, Upp 2:23)..

Låt mig se din hämnd på dem,

för jag har överlämnat min sak

till dig.

13 Sjung till Herren, lova Herren,

för han räddar den fattiges själ

ur de ondas hand.

då jag föddes!

Låt inte dagen då min mor

födde mig bli välsignad!

15 Förbannad är den man

som meddelade min far:

"Du har fått en son!"

och gjorde honom mycket glad.

som det gick för de städer

som Herren förstörde

utan att ångra det.

Låt honom få höra sorgerop

på morgonen

och stridsrop mitt på dagen,

17 eftersom han inte dödade mig

i moderlivet

så att min mor fick bli min grav

och hennes moderliv havande

för alltid.

18 Varför kom jag ut ur moderlivet

för att se möda och bedrövelse

och sluta mina dagar i skam?
