Jeremias 47

1 Yahweh’s word that came to Jeremiah the prophet concerning the Philistines, before Pharaoh struck Gaza.

2 Yahweh says:

"Behold, waters rise up out of the north,

and will become an overflowing stream,

and will overflow the land and all that is therein,

the city and those who dwell therein.

The men will cry,

and all the inhabitants of the land will wail.

3 At the noise of the stamping of the hoofs of his strong ones,

at the rushing of his chariots,

at the rumbling of his wheels,

the fathers don’t look back for their children

because their hands are so feeble,

4 because of the day that comes to destroy all the Philistines,

to cut off from Tyre and Sidon every helper who remains;

for Yahweh will destroy the Philistines,

the remnant of the isle of Caphtor.

5 Baldness has come on Gaza;

Ashkelon is brought to nothing.

You remnant of their valley,

how long will you cut yourself?

6 "‘You sword of Yahweh, how long will it be before you are quiet?

Put yourself back into your scabbard;

rest, and be still.’

7 "How can you be quiet,

since Yahweh has given you a command?

Against Ashkelon, and against the seashore,

there he has appointed it."

Profetia om filisteerna

Detta är Herrens ord som kom till profeten Jeremia om filisteerna innan farao intog Gaza*47:1innan farao intog GazaEn egyptisk motattack mot Nebukadnessar erövrade Gaza år 601-599 f Kr. Nebukadnessar skövlade Gazaområdet 604 f Kr och gjorde slut på filisteerna helt 588 f Kr (jfr Hes 25:16).:

2 *Jes 8:7, 28:2, Jer 46:8. Så säger Herren:

Se, vatten stiger från norr

och blir till en flod

som svämmar över.

Den översvämmar landet

med allt som finns i det,

städerna och dem som bor där.

Människorna ropar,

och landets alla invånare jämrar sig

3 *Jer 4:13. när ljudet hörs

av hans hingstars hovslag,

när hans vagnar dånar

och hans hjul bullrar.

Då ser sig fäderna inte om

efter barnen,

de står maktlösa

4 inför dagen som kommer

då alla filisteer förintas,

då alla utrotas som är kvar

för att försvara Tyrus och Sidon.

För Herren ska förinta filisteerna,

dem som är kvar från Kaftors ö*47:4Kaftors öTroligen Kreta (jfr 1 Mos 10:14, 5 Mos 2:23, Amos 9:7)..

5 *Jer 16:6, 48:37. Gazas huvud ska rakas,

det är slut med Ashkelon,

med dem som är kvar i deras dal*47:5i deras dalAndra handskrifter (Septuaginta): "av anakiterna" (jättar bland filisteerna, jfr 5 Mos 9:2, 1 Sam 17:4)..

Hur länge ska du rista märken

på dig?

6 O, du Herrens svärd,

när ska du äntligen få ro?

Dra dig in i din skida,

vila och var stilla.

7 Men hur ska det få ro

när Herren har gett

sin befallning?

Mot Ashkelon och mot kustlandet,

dit har han befallt det.
