1 There was a man in the land of Uz, whose name was Job; and the man was perfect and upright, and one who feared God and turned away from evil.

2 And seven sons and three daughters were born to him.

3 Also, his possessions were seven thousand sheep, three thousand camels, five hundred yoke of oxen, five hundred female donkeys, and a very large household, so that this man was the greatest of all the people of the East.

1 HAVIA um homem na terra de Uz, cujo nome era Jó; e este era homem sincero, reto e temente a Deus, e desviava-se do mal. 2 E nasceram-lhe sete filhos e três filhas. 3 E era o seu gado sete mil ovelhas, e três mil camelos, e quinhentas juntas de bois, e quinhentas jumentas; era também muitíssima a gente ao seu serviço, de maneira que este homem era maior do que todos os do oriente.
