| 1 | Take heed that ye do not your alms before men, to be seen by them: otherwise ye have no reward from your Father who is in heaven. | Vigyázzatok, hogy alamizsnátokat ne osztogassátok az emberek elõtt, hogy lássanak titeket; mert különben nem lesz jutalmatok a ti mennyei Atyátoknál. |
| 2 | Therefore, when thou doest thy alms, do not sound a trumpet before thee, as the hypocrites do, in the synagogues, and in the streets, that they may have glory from men. Verily, I say to you, they have their reward. | Azért mikor alamizsnát osztogatsz, ne kürtöltess magad elõtt, a hogy a képmutatók tesznek a zsinagógákban és az utczákon, hogy az emberektõl dícséretet nyerjenek. Bizony mondom néktek: elvették jutalmukat. |
| 3 | But when thou doest alms, let not thy left hand know what thy right hand doeth: | Te pedig a mikor alamizsnát osztogatsz, ne tudja a te bal kezed, mit cselekszik a te jobb kezed; |
| 4 | That thy alms may be in secret; and thy Father who seeth in secret, himself will reward thee openly. | Hogy a te alamizsnád titkon legyen; és a te Atyád, a ki titkon néz, megfizet néked nyilván. |
| 5 | And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues, and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen by men. Verily, I say to you, they have their reward. | És mikor imádkozol, ne légy olyan, mint a képmutatók, a kik a gyülekezetekben és az utczák szegeletein fenállva szeretnek imádkozni, hogy lássák õket az emberek. Bizony mondom néktek: elvették jutalmukat. |
| 6 | But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father who is in secret, and thy Father who seeth in secret, will reward thee openly. | Te pedig a mikor imádkozol, menj be a te belsõ szobádba, és ajtódat bezárva, imádkozzál a te Atyádhoz, a ki titkon van; és a te Atyád, a ki titkon néz, megfizet néked nyilván. |
| 7 | But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking. | És mikor imádkoztok, ne legyetek sok beszédûek, mint a pogányok, a kik azt gondolják, hogy az õ sok beszédükért hallgattatnak meg. |
| 8 | Therefore be ye not like them: for your Father knoweth what things ye need before ye ask him. | Ne legyetek hát ezekhez hasonlók; mert jól tudja a ti Atyátok, mire van szükségetek, mielõtt kérnétek tõle. |
| 9 | After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father who art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. | Ti azért így imádkozzatok: Mi Atyánk, ki vagy a mennyekben, szenteltessék meg a te neved; |
| 10 | Thy kingdom come. Thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven. | Jõjjön el a te országod; legyen meg a te akaratod, mint a mennyben, úgy a földön is. |
| 11 | Give us this day our daily bread. | A mi mindennapi kenyerünket add meg nékünk ma. |
| 12 | And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors. | És bocsásd meg a mi vétkeinket, miképen mi is megbocsátunk azoknak, a kik ellenünk vétkeztek; |
| 13 | And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen. | És ne vígy minket kísértetbe, de szabadíts meg minket a gonosztól. Mert tiéd az ország és a hatalom és a dicsõség mind örökké. Ámen! |
| 14 | For, if ye forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you: | Mert ha megbocsátjátok az embereknek az õ vétkeiket, megbocsát néktek is a ti mennyei Atyátok. |
| 15 | But if ye forgive not men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses. | Ha pedig meg nem bocsátjátok az embereknek az õ vétkeiket, a ti mennyei Atyátok sem bocsátja meg a ti vétkeiteket. |
| 16 | Moreover, when ye fast, be not as the hypocrites, of a sad countenance: for they disfigure their faces, that they may appear to men to fast. Verily, I say to you, they have their reward. | Mikor pedig bõjtöltök, ne legyen komor a nézéstek, mint a képmutatóké, a kik eltorzítják arczukat, hogy lássák az emberek, hogy õk bõjtölnek. Bizony mondon néktek, elvették jutalmukat. |
| 17 | But thou, when thou fastest, anoint thy head, and wash thy face; | Te pedig mikor bõjtölsz, kend meg a te fejedet, és a te orczádat mosd meg; |
| 18 | That thou mayest not appear to men to fast, but to thy Father, who is in secret: and thy Father, who seeth in secret, shall reward thee openly. | Hogy ne az emberek lássák bõjtölésedet, hanem a te Atyád, a ki titkon van; és a te Atyád, a ki titkon néz, megfizet néked nyilván. |
| 19 | Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: | Ne gyûjtsetek magatoknak kincseket a földön, hol a rozsda és a moly megemészti, és a hol a tolvajok kiássák és ellopják; |
| 20 | But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal. | Hanem gyûjtsetek magatoknak kincseket mennyben, a hol sem a rozsda, sem a moly meg nem emészti, és a hol a tolvajok ki nem ássák, sem el nem lopják. |
| 21 | For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also. | Mert a hol van a ti kincsetek, ott van a ti szívetek is. |
| 22 | The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thy eye be single, thy whole body will be full of light. | A test lámpása a szem. Ha azért a te szemed tiszta, a te egész tested világos lesz. |
| 23 | But if thy eye be evil, thy whole body will be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee is darkness, how great is that darkness! | Ha pedig a te szemed gonosz, a te egész tested sötét lesz. Ha azért a benned lévõ világosság sötétség: mekkora akkor a sötétség?! |
| 24 | No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon. | Senki sem szolgálhat két úrnak. Mert vagy az egyiket gyûlöli és a másikat szereti; vagy az egyikhez ragaszkodik és a másikat megveti. Nem szolgálhattok Istennek és a Mammonnak. |
| 25 | Therefore I say to you, Be not anxious for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than food, and the body than raiment? | Azért azt mondom néktek: Ne aggodalmaskodjatok a ti éltetek felõl, mit egyetek és mit igyatok; sem a ti testetek felõl, mibe öltözködjetek. Avagy nem több-é az élet hogynem az eledel, és a test hogynem az öltözet? |
| 26 | Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? | Tekintsetek az égi madarakra, hogy nem vetnek, nem aratnak, sem csûrbe nem takarnak; és a ti mennyei Atyátok eltartja azokat. Nem sokkal különbek vagytok-é azoknál? |
| 27 | Which of you by anxious care can add one cubit to his stature? | Kicsoda pedig az közületek, a ki aggodalmaskodásával megnövelheti termetét egy araszszal? |
| 28 | And why are ye anxious for raiment? Consider the lilies of the field how they grow? they toil not, neither do they spin? | Az öltözet felõl is mit aggodalmaskodtok? Vegyétek eszetekbe a mezõ liliomait, mi módon növekednek: nem munkálkodnak, és nem fonnak; |
| 29 | And yet I say to you, that even Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these. | De mondom néktek, hogy Salamon minden dicsõségében sem öltözködött úgy, mint ezek közül egy. |
| 30 | Wherefore, if God so clotheth the grass of the field, which to-day is, and to-morrow is cast into the oven, will he not much more clothe you, O ye of little faith? | Ha pedig a mezõnek füvét, a mely ma van, és holnap kemenczébe vettetik, így ruházza az Isten; nem sokkal inkább-é titeket, ti kicsinyhitûek? |
| 31 | Therefore be not anxious, saying, What shall we eat? or what shall we drink? or, with what shall we be clothed? | Ne aggodalmaskodjatok tehát, és ne mondjátok: Mit együnk? vagy: Mit igyunk? vagy: Mivel ruházkodjunk? |
| 32 | (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things. | Mert mind ezeket a pogányok kérdezik. Mert jól tudja a ti mennyei Atyátok, hogy mind ezekre szükségetek van. |
| 33 | But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. | Hanem keressétek elõször Istennek országát, és az õ igazságát; és ezek mind megadatnak néktek. |
| 34 | Therefore be not anxious for the morrow: for the morrow will be solicitous for the things of itself. Sufficient to the day is its own evil. | Ne aggodalmaskodjatok tehát a holnap felõl; mert a holnap majd aggodalmaskodik a maga dolgai felõl. Elég minden napnak a maga baja. |
