1 Cel rău fuge fără să fie urmărit, dar cel neprihănit îndrăzneşte ca un leu tînăr. -
2 Cînd este răscoală într'o ţară, sînt mulţi capi, dar cu un om priceput şi încercat, domnia dăinueşte. -
3 Un om sărac care apasă pe cei obijduiţi, este ca o rupere de nori care aduce lipsă de pîne. -
4 Ceice părăsesc legea, laudă pe cel rău, dar ceice păzesc legea se mînie pe el. -
5 Oamenii dedaţi la rău nu înţeleg ce este drept, dar ceice caută pe Domnul înţeleg totul. -
6 Mai mult preţuieşte săracul care umblă în neprihănirea lui, decît bogatul care umblă pe căi sucite. -
7 Celce păzeşte legea, este un fiu priceput, dar celce umblă cu cei desfrînaţi face ruşine tatălui său. -
8 Cine îşi înmulţeşte avuţiile prin dobîndă şi camătă, le strînge pentru celce are milă de săraci. -
9 Dacă cineva îşi întoarce urechea ca să n'asculte legea, chiar şi rugăciunea lui este o scîrbă. -
10 Cine rătăceşte pe oamenii fără prihană pe calea cea rea, cade în groapa pe care a săpat -o, dar oamenii fără prihană moştenesc fericirea. -
11 Omul bogat se crede înţelept, dar săracul care este priceput îl cercetează. -
12 Cînd biruiesc cei neprihăniţi, este o mare slavă, dar cînd se înalţă cei răi, fiecare se ascunde. -
13 Cine îşi ascunde fărădelegile, nu propăşeşte, dar cine le mărturiseşte şi se lasă de ele, capătă îndurare. -
14 Ferice de omul care se teme necontenit, dar cel ce-şi împietreşte inima cade în nenorocire. -
15 Ca un leu care răcneşte şi ca un urs flămînd, aşa este cel rău care stăpîneşte peste un popor sărac. -
16 Un voivod fără pricepere îşi înmulţeşte faptele de asuprire, dar cel ce urăşte lăcomia îşi lungeşte zilele. -
17 Un om al cărui cuget este încărcat cu sîngele altuia, fuge pînă la groapă: nimeni să nu -l oprească. -
18 Cine umblă în neprihănire, găseşte mîntuirea, dar cine umblă pe două căi strîmbe cade într'o groapă. -
19 Cine îşi lucrează cîmpul are belşug de pîne, dar cine aleargă după lucruri de nimic are belşug de sărăcie. -
20 Un om credincios este năpădit de binecuvîntări, dar celce vrea să se îmbogăţească repede nu rămîne nepedepsit. -
21 Nu este bine să cauţi la faţa oamenilor; chiar pentru o bucată de pîne poate un om să se dedea la păcat. -
22 Un om pizmaş se grăbeşte să se îmbogăţească, şi nu ştie că lipsa va veni peste el. -
23 Cine mustră pe alţii, găseşte mai multă bunăvoinţă pe urmă, decît cel cu limba linguşitoare. -
24 Cine fură pe tatăl său şi pe mama sa, şi zice că nu este un păcat, este tovarăş cu nimicitorul. -
25 Cel lacom stîrneşte certuri, dar celce se încrede în Domnul este săturat din belşug. -
26 Cine se încrede în inima lui este un nebun, dar cine umblă în înţelepciune va fi mîntuit. -
27 Cine dă săracului, nu duce lipsă, dar cine închide ochii, este încărcat cu blesteme. -
28 Cînd se înalţă cei răi, fiecare se ascunde, dar cînd pier ei, cei buni se înmulţesc. -
1 The wicked have fled and there is no pursuer. And the righteous as a young lion is confident.
2 By the transgression of a land many [are] its heads. And by an intelligent man, Who knoweth right -- it is prolonged.
3 A man -- poor and oppressing the weak, [Is] a sweeping rain, and there is no bread.
4 Those forsaking the law praise the wicked, Those keeping the law plead against them.
5 Evil men understand not judgment, And those seeking Jehovah understand all.
6 Better [is] the poor walking in his integrity, Than the perverse of ways who is rich.
7 Whoso is keeping the law is an intelligent son, And a friend of gluttons, Doth cause his father to blush.
8 Whoso is multiplying his wealth by biting and usury, For one favouring the poor doth gather it.
9 Whoso is turning his ear from hearing the law, Even his prayer [is] an abomination.
10 Whoso is causing the upright to err in an evil way, Into his own pit he doth fall, And the perfect do inherit good.
11 A rich man is wise in his own eyes, And the intelligent poor searcheth him.
12 In the exulting of the righteous the glory [is] abundant, And in the rising of the wicked man is apprehensive.
13 Whoso is covering his transgressions prospereth not, And he who is confessing and forsaking hath mercy.
14 O the happiness of a man fearing continually, And whoso is hardening his heart falleth into evil.
15 A growling lion, and a ranging bear, [Is] the wicked ruler over a poor people.
16 A leader lacking understanding multiplieth oppressions, Whoso is hating dishonest gain prolongeth days.
17 A man oppressed with the blood of a soul, Unto the pit fleeth, none taketh hold on him.
18 Whoso is walking uprightly is saved, And the perverted of ways falleth at once.
19 Whoso is tilling his ground is satisfied [with] bread, And whoso is pursuing vanity, Is filled [with] poverty.
20 A stedfast man hath multiplied blessings, And whoso is hasting to be rich is not acquitted.
21 To discern faces is not good, And for a piece of bread doth a man transgress.
22 Troubled for wealth [is] the man [with] an evil eye, And he knoweth not that want doth meet him.
23 Whoso is reproving a man afterwards findeth grace, More than a flatterer with the tongue.
24 Whoso is robbing his father, or his mother, And is saying, `It is not transgression,` A companion he is to a destroyer.
25 Whoso is proud in soul stirreth up contention, And whoso is trusting on Jehovah is made fat.
26 Whoso is trusting in his heart is a fool, And whoso is walking in wisdom is delivered.
27 Whoso is giving to the poor hath no lack, And whoso is hiding his eyes multiplied curses.
28 In the rising of the wicked a man is hidden, And in their destruction the righteous multiply!
