1 Job vastasi ja sanoi:

ja suokaa minulle se lohdutus!

Kun olen puhunut, pilkatkaa sitten.

4 Ihmisiäkö vastaan minä valitan?

Tahi kuinka en kävisi kärsimättömäksi?

5 Kääntykää minuun, niin tyrmistytte

ja panette kätenne suullenne.

6 Kun käyn ajattelemaan, niin kauhistun,

ja vavistus valtaa ruumiini:

7 *Ps. 73:3; Jer. 12:1; Hab. 1:13; Mal. 3:14Miksi jumalattomat saavat elää,

vanheta, jopa voimassa vahvistua?

8 Heidän sukunsa on vankkana heidän edessään,

heidän jälkeläisensä heidän silmäinsä alla.

9 Heidän kotinsa ovat rauhassa,

kauhuista kaukana;

ei satu heihin Jumalan vitsa.

10 Hänen sonninsa polkee eikä turhaan,

hänen lehmänsä poikii eikä kesken.

heidän lapsensa hyppelevät leikiten.

12 He virittävät laulujaan

vaskirummun ja kanteleen kaikuessa

ja iloitsevat huilun soidessa.

Kuinkapa usein hän jakelee arpaosat vihassansa?

Kostakoon hän hänelle itselleen,

niin että hän sen tuntee.

juokoon itse Kaikkivaltiaan vihan.

21 Sillä mitä hän välittää perheestänsä,

jälkeensä jäävistä,

kun hänen kuukausiensa luku on täysi!

hänelle, joka taivaallisetkin tuomitsee?

23 Toinen kuolee täydessä onnessansa,

kaikessa rauhassa ja levossa;

24 hänen astiansa ovat maitoa täynnä,

ja hänen luunsa juotetaan ytimellä.

25 Toinen kuolee katkeralla mielellä,

saamatta onnea maistaa.

26 *Saarn. 9:2Yhdessä he panevat maata multaan,

ja madot peittävät heidät.

27 Katso, minä tunnen teidän ajatuksenne

ja juonet, joilla mielitte sortaa minut.

28 Kun sanotte: 'Missä on nyt mahtimiehen talo,

missä maja, jossa jumalattomat asuivat?'

29 niin ettekö ole kysyneet maita kulkeneilta?

Ette voi kieltää, mitä he ovat todeksi nähneet,

30 että paha säästetään onnettomuuden päivältä,

vihan päivältä hänet saatetaan suojaan.

31 Kuka puhuu hänelle vasten kasvoja

hänen vaelluksestaan,

kuka kostaa hänelle, mitä hän on tehnyt?

32 Hänet saatetaan kalmistoon,

ja hänen hautakumpuansa vaalitaan.

33 Kepeät ovat hänelle laakson turpeet.

Kaikki ihmiset seuraavat hänen jäljessänsä,

niinkuin epälukuiset ovat kulkeneet hänen edellänsä.
