Psalms 58

To the chief Musician, Al-taschith, Michtam of David.

1 Do ye indeed speak righteousness, O congregation? do ye judge uprightly, O ye sons of men?*58.1 Al-taschith…: or, Destroy not*58.1 Michtam: or, A golden Psalm

2 Yea, in heart ye work wickedness; ye weigh the violence of your hands in the earth.

4 Their poison is like the poison of a serpent: they are like the deaf adder that stoppeth her ear;*58.4 like the poison: Heb. according to the likeness, etc*58.4 adder: or, asp

5 Which will not hearken to the voice of charmers, charming never so wisely.*58.5 charming…: or, be the charmer never so cunning

6 Break their teeth, O God, in their mouth: break out the great teeth of the young lions, O LORD.

7 Let them melt away as waters which run continually: when he bendeth his bow to shoot his arrows, let them be as cut in pieces.

8 As a snail which melteth, let every one of them pass away: like the untimely birth of a woman, that they may not see the sun.

9 Before your pots can feel the thorns, he shall take them away as with a whirlwind, both living, and in his wrath.*58.9 both…: Heb. as living as wrath

10 The righteous shall rejoice when he seeth the vengeance: he shall wash his feet in the blood of the wicked.

11 So that a man shall say, Verily there is a reward for the righteous: verily he is a God that judgeth in the earth.*58.11 a reward…: Heb. fruit of the, etc

2 Est-ce donc en vous taisant que vous rendez la justice?

Est-ce ainsi que vous jugez avec droiture, fils de l’homme?

3 Loin de là! Dans le cœur, vous consommez des iniquités;

Dans le pays, c’est la violence de vos mains que vous placez sur la balance.

4 Les méchants sont pervertis dès le sein maternel,

Les menteurs s’égarent au sortir du ventre de leur mère.

5 Ils ont *Ps 140:4.un venin pareil au venin d’un serpent,

D’un aspic sourd qui ferme son oreille,

6 Qui n’entend pas la voix des enchanteurs,

Du magicien le plus habile.

7 O Dieu, brise-leur les dents dans la bouche!

Éternel, arrache les mâchoires des lionceaux!

8 Qu’ils se dissipent comme des eaux qui s’écoulent!

Qu’ils ne lancent que des traits émoussés!

9 Qu’ils périssent en se fondant, comme un limaçon;

Sans voir le soleil, comme l’avorton d’une femme!

10 Avant que vos chaudières sentent l’épine,

Verte ou enflammée, le tourbillon l’emportera.

11 Le juste sera dans la joie, à la vue de la vengeance;

Il baignera ses pieds dans le sang des méchants.

12 Et les hommes diront: Oui, il est une récompense pour le juste;

Oui, il est un Dieu qui juge sur la terre.
