1 Quem creu em nossa mensagem?
A quem o Senhor revelou seu braço forte?
2 Meu servo cresceu em sua presença,
como tenro broto verde,
como raiz em terra seca.
Não havia nada de belo nem majestoso em sua aparência,
nada que nos atraísse.
3 Foi desprezado e rejeitado,
homem de dores, que conhece o sofrimento mais profundo.
Demos as costas para ele e desviamos o olhar;
ele foi desprezado, e não nos importamos.
4 Apesar disso, foram as nossas enfermidades que ele tomou sobre si,
e foram as nossas doenças que pesaram sobre ele.
Pensamos que seu sofrimento era castigo de Deus,
castigo por sua culpa.
5 Mas ele foi ferido por causa de nossa rebeldia
e esmagado por causa de nossos pecados.
Sofreu o castigo para que fôssemos restaurados
e recebeu açoites para que fôssemos curados.
6 Todos nós nos desviamos como ovelhas;
deixamos os caminhos de Deus
para seguir os nossos caminhos.
E, no entanto, o Senhor fez cair sobre ele
os pecados de todos nós.
7 Ele foi oprimido e humilhado,
mas não disse uma só palavra.
Foi levado como cordeiro para o matadouro;
como ovelha muda diante dos tosquiadores,
não abriu a boca.
8 Condenado injustamente,
foi levado embora.
Ninguém se importou de ele morrer sem deixar descendentes,
de sua vida ser cortada no meio do caminho.
Mas ele foi ferido mortalmente
por causa da rebeldia do meu povo.
9 Não havia cometido nenhuma injustiça
e jamais havia enganado alguém.
Ainda assim, foi sepultado como criminoso,
colocado no túmulo de um homem rico.
10 Fazia parte do plano do Senhor esmagá-lo
e causar-lhe dor.
Quando, porém, sua vida for entregue como oferta pelo pecado,
ele terá muitos descendentes.
Terá vida longa,
e o plano do Senhor prosperará em suas mãos.
11 Quando ele vir tudo que resultar de sua angústia,
ficará satisfeito.
E, por causa de tudo que meu servo justo passou,
ele fará que muitos sejam considerados justos,
pois levará sobre si os pecados deles.
12 Eu lhe darei as honras de um soldado vitorioso,
pois ele se expôs à morte.
Foi contado entre os rebeldes;
levou sobre si a culpa de muitos e intercedeu pelos pecadores.
1 Who has believed our message and to whom has the arm of the LORD been revealed?
2 He grew up before him like a tender shoot, and like a root out of dry ground. He had no beauty or majesty to attract us to him, nothing in his appearance that we should desire him.
3 He was despised and rejected by mankind, a man of suffering, and familiar with pain. Like one from whom people hide their faces he was despised, and we held him in low esteem.
4 Surely he took up our pain and bore our suffering, yet we considered him punished by God, stricken by him, and afflicted.
5 But he was pierced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was on him, and by his wounds we are healed.
6 We all, like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way; and the LORD has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
7 He was oppressed and afflicted, yet he did not open his mouth; he was led like a lamb to the slaughter, and as a sheep before its shearers is silent, so he did not open his mouth.
8 By oppression "and judgment he was taken away. Yet who of his generation protested? For he was cut off from the land of the living; for the transgression of my people he was punished. [^2]
9 He was assigned a grave with the wicked, and with the rich in his death, though he had done no violence, nor was any deceit in his mouth.
10 Yet it was the LORD's will to crush him and cause him to suffer, and though the LORD makes "his life an offering for sin, he will see his offspring and prolong his days, and the will of the LORD will prosper in his hand.
11 After he has suffered, he will see the light of life "and be satisfied "; by his knowledge "my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities.
12 Therefore I will give him a portion among the great, "and he will divide the spoils with the strong, "because he poured out his life unto death, and was numbered with the transgressors. For he bore the sin of many, and made intercession for the transgressors.
